In this study, a newly modified soil nailing technology which uses bamboo, rich natural material growing in southern areas, is developed to prevent the soil pollution and to overcome the difficulty of excavation near existing structures. Experimental and analytical studies were performed to confirm application possibility of bamboo taking the place of existent reinforcement material, that is steelbar, FRP and etc. In experimental study, strength characteristics of bamboo material were analyzed, and pull-out resistance of bamboo soil nailing system by field pull-out tests was examined. In analytical study, limit equilibrium analysis and displacement analysis were performed, and application possibility of bamboo soil nailing system was analyzed. As the result of this study, bamboo has comparatively good strength and pull-out resistance characteristics. It is expected that bamboo can be used as satisfactory reinforcement material by selecting bamboo with reguired diameter and by controlling the number of bamboo strips. Bamboo is an alternative for the reinforcement of soil nailing system, especially temporary support system in excavation near the existing structures.

The load transfer mechanism of hybrid model of soil-nailing and compression anchor is studied in this paper. The hybrid model is composed of an anchor bar (installed at the tip) with two PC strands and a steel bar. It can make active behavior of skin friction by applying the pre-stress. In this paper, the load transfer mechanisms of soil-nailings, compression anchors, and hybrid models, respectively, are obtained from skin friction theory and load transfer theory. Field pullout tests are performed to identify the load transfer mechanism and experimental results are compared with analytical solution. In case of soil-nailings, the tension load is transferred from face to tip, however, in case of compression anchors, the compression load is transferred from tip to face. The experimental behavior of the hybrid model is similar to that of compression anchor when only pre-stress is applied. If the pullout test is performed by simultaneously pulling out the anchor and the nail, the compression load is dominant at the tip and tension load is dominant at the face. The load transfer mechanism of the hybrid model shows the combined behavior of soil-nailings with compression anchors.

Carbonation is a deterioration which degrades structural and material performance by permitting CO2 and corrosion of embedded steel. Service life evaluation through deterministic method is conventional, however the researches with probabilistic approach on service life considering loading and cold joint effect on carbonation have been performed very limitedly. In this study, probabilistic service life evaluation was carried out through MCS (Monte Carlo Simulation) which adopted random variables such as cover depth, CO2 diffusion coefficient, exterior CO2 concentration, and internal carbonatable materials. Probabilistic service life was derived by changing mean value and COV (Coefficient of variation) from 100 % to 300 % and 0.1 ~ 0.2, respectively. From the analysis, maximum reduction ratio (47.7%) and minimum reduction ratio (11.4%) of service life were obtained in cover depth and diffusion coefficient, respectively. In the loading conditions of 30~60% for compressive and tensile stress, GGBFS concrete was effective to reduce cold joint effect on carbonation. In the tensile condition, service life decreased linearly regardless of material types. Additionally service life rapidly decreased due to micro crack propagation in the all cases when 60% loading was considered in compressive condition.

There is increasingly more research focusing on the application of FRP reinforcing bars as an alternative material for steel reinforcing bars, but most such research look at short term behavior of FRP reinforced structures. In this study, the microscopic analysis and tensile behavior of Basalt and Glass FRP bars under freezing-thawing and alkaline conditions were experimentally evaluated. After 100 cycles of the freezing and thawing, the tensile strength and elastic modulus of FRP bars decreased by about 5%. In the case of microstructure of FRP bars during the initial 20 days, no significant damages of FRP bar sections were found under $20^{\circ}C$ alkaline solution; however, the specimens immersed in $60^{\circ}C$ alkaline solution were found to experience resin dissolution, fiber damage and the separation of the resin-fiber interface. In the alkaline environment, the strength decrease of about 10% occurred in the environment at $20^{\circ}C$ for 100 days, but the tensile strength of FRPs exposed for 500 days decreased by 50%. At temperature of $40^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$, an abrupt decrease in the strength was observed at 50 and 100 days. Especially, the tensile strength decrease of Basalt fiber Reinforced Polymer bars showed more severe degradation due to the damage caused by dissolution of resin matrix and fiber swelling in alkaline solution. Therefore, in order to improve the long-term performance of the surface braided FRPr reinforcing bars, surface treatment is required to ensure alkali resistance.

This paper reports an experimental study to evaluate the flexural behavior of concrete beams reinforced using Fe based shape memory alloy (Fe-SMA) bars. For the experiment, a concrete beam of 200mm×300mm×2,200mm was produced, and a 4% pre-strained Fe-SMA bar was used as a tensile reinforcement. As experimental variables, type of tensile reinforcement (SD400, Fe-SMA), reinforcement ratio (0.2, 0.39, 0.59, 0.78), activation of Fe-SMA (activation, non-activation), and joint method of Fe-SMA bar (Continuous, welding, coupler) were considered. The electric resistance heating method was used to activate the Fe-SMA bar, and a current of 5A/㎟ was supplied until the specimen reached 160℃. After the upward displacement of the specimen due to the camber effect was stabilized, a three-point flexural loading experiment was performed using an actuator of 2,000 kN capacity. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the upward displacement occurred due to the camber effect as the Fe-SMA bar was activated. The specimen that activated the Fe-SMA bar had an initial crack at a higher load than the specimen that did not activate it. However, as with general prestressed concrete, the effect of the prestress by Fe-SMA activation on the ultimate state of the beam was insignificant.
This paper presents the failure mode and strengthening design of reinforced concrete slab strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) grid. Parameters involved in this experimental study are FRP grid reinforcement quantity, repair mortar thickness, the presence of anchor, and strengthening in compression. In this study, there are different failure types with increasing the CFRP grid strengthening reinforcement. On the low strengthening level, CFRP grid in repair mortar cover ruptures. On the moderate strengthening level, there is a debonding shear failure in the interface of carbon FRP grid because of the excessive shear deformation. On the high strengthening level, diagonal shear failure occurs. With the increasing of FRP grid reinforcement, the strengthening effect increased, but the ductility decreased. By limiting the strengthening level, it can be achieved to prevent shear failure which result in sudden loss in the resisting load capacity. CFRP rupture failure is desirable, because CFRP ruptured concrete slab keeps the same load capacity and ductility haying before strengthening even after failure. Finally, design guideline and procedure are given for strengthening of concrete slab with CFRP grid.

In this paper, new type CFFT (Concrete Filled FRP Tube) was suggested in order to improve the flexural stiffness. Since the existing CFFT was produced by filament winding process, re-bar for concrete may be necessary in order to ensure structural safety under flexure re-bar. In comparison with existing type CFFT, new type CFFT was reinforced by circular shaped pultrusion FRP without re-bar. Filament winding FRP was attached to the outer layer of pultrusion FRP. Structural behavior of new type CFFT filled with concrete (HCFFT) was investigated by the mechanical property test for the component element and the FE analysis. Furthermore, compressive strength of the HCFFT member based on the equation suggested in previous studies.

This study deals with the microstructure and tensile properties of 600 and 700 MPa-grade high-strength seismic reinforced steel bars. High-strength seismic resistant reinforced steel bars (SD 600S and SD 700S) were fabricated by TempCore process, especially the SD 700S specimen was more rapid cooled than the SD 600S specimen during the TempCore process. Although two specimens had microstructure of tempered martensite in the surface region, the SD 600S specimen had ferrite-degenerated pearlite in the center region, whereas the SD 700S specimen had bainite-ferrite-degenerated pearlite in the center region. Therefore, their hardness was highest in the surface region and revealed a tendency to decrease from the surface region to the center region because tempered martensite has higher hardness than ferrite-degenerated pearlite or bainite. The SD 700S specimen revealed higher hardness in the center region than SD 600S specimen because it contained a larger amount of bainite as well as ferrite-degenerated pearlite. On the other hand, tensile test results indicated the SD 600S and SD 700S specimens revealed continuous yielding behavior because of formation of degenerated pearlite or bainite in the center region. The SD 600S specimen had a little higher tensile-to-yield ratio because the presence of ferrite and degenerated pearlite in the center region and the lower fraction of tempered martensite enhance work hardening.
Prefabrication technologies are making bridge construction safer and less disruptive to the environment and traveling public, making bridge designs more constructible and, improving the quality and durability by shifting site work to a more controllable environment. Modular bridge substructures with concrete-filled steel tube (CFT) piers and composite pier caps were suggested to realize accelerated bridge construction. The precast segmental pier cap consists of a composite pier table and precast prestressed segments on the table. The pier table has embedded steel section to mitigate stress concentration at the connection by small tubes. Each bridge pier has four or six CFT columns which connect to the pier cap. Shear strength of the pier cap was obtained by extending vertical reinforcing bars from the table to the precast segment. Transverse prestressing was introduced to control tensile stresses by service loadings. Structural performance of the proposed modular system was evaluated by static tests. Design requirements of the composite pier cap were satisfied by continuous reinforcing bars and prestressing tendons. Standardized modular substructures can be effectively utilized for the fast replacement or construction of bridges.

The weight of concrete could be reduced by using hollow core slabs instead of heavy solid slabs, leading to cost reduction. The long span be also achieved by introducing prestress in hollow core slabs. but the evaluation of shear strength of precast-prestressed hollow core slabs are needed because the cross section is reduced in web and arranging shear reinforcement is not possible. In this study, the shear strength of precast-prestressed hollow core slabs were evaluated based on experimental tests. For this purpose, six full scale specimens were made and tested. The shear strength of the specimens were compared with those evaluated from current design provision(EC2 ACI, EN1168 and AASHTO).
