The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of film thickness of various resin cements on bonding efficiency in indirect composite restoration by measurement of microtensile bond strength, polymerization shrinkage, flexural strength and modulus, fractographic FE-SEM analysis. Experimental groups were divided according to film thickness (< $50\;{\mu}m$-control, $50\;{\mu}m$-T50, $100\;{\mu}m$-T100, $150\;{\mu}m$-T150) using composite- based resin cements (Variolink II, Duo-Link) and adhesive-based resin cements (Panavia F, Rely X Unicem). The data was analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's multiple comparison test (p < 0.05). The results were as follows ; 1. Variolink II showed higher microtensile bond strength than that of adhesive-based resin cements in all film thickness (p < 0.05) but Duo-Link did not show significant difference except control group (p > 0.05). 2. Microtensile bond strength of composite-based resin cements were decreased significantly according to increasing film thickness (p < 0.05) but adhesive-based resin cements did not show significant difference among film thickness (p > 0.05). 3. Panavia F showed significantly lower polymerization shrinkage than other resin cements (p < 0.05). 4. Composite-based resin cements showed significantly higher flexural strength and modulus than adhesive-based resin cements (p < 0.05). 5. FE-SEM examination showed uniform adhesive layer and well developed resin tags in composite-based resin cements but unclear adhesive layer and poorly developed resin tags in adhesive-based resin cements. In debonded surface examination, composite-based resin cements showed mixed failures but adhesive-based resin cements showed adhesive failures.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare and evaluate the tensile bond strength of chairside reline resin to denture base resin fabricated by different methods (subtractive manufacturing, additive manufacturing, and conventional heat-curing). Materials and methods: Denture base specimens were fabricated as cuboid specimens with a width of 25 mm × length 25 mm × height 3 mm by subtractive manufacturing (VITA VIONIC BASE), additive manufacturing (NextDent Base) and conventional heat-curing (Lucitone 199). After storing the specimens in distilled water at 37℃ for 30 days and drying them, they were relined with polyethyl methacrylate (PEMA) chairside reline resin (REBASE II Normal). The subtractive and additive manufacturing groups were set as the experimental group, and the heat-curing group was set as the control group. Ten specimens were prepared for each group. After storing all bound specimens in distilled water at 37℃ for 24 hours, the tensile bond strength between denture bases and chairside reline resin was measured by a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 10 mm/min. The fracture pattern of each specimen was analyzed and classified into adhesive failure, cohesive failure, and mixed failure. Tensile bond strength, according to the fabrication method, was analyzed by 1-way ANOVA and Bonferroni's method (α=.05). Results: Mean tensile bond strength of the heat-curing group (2.45 ± 0.39 MPa) and subtractive manufacturing group (2.33 ± 0.39 MPa) had no significant difference (P>.999). The additive manufacturing group showed significantly lower tensile bond strength (1.23 ± 0.36 MPa) compared to the other groups (P<.001). Most specimens of heat-curing and subtractive manufacturing groups had mixed failure, but mixed failure and adhesive failure showed the same frequency in additive manufacturing group. Conclusion: The mean tensile bond strength of the subtractive manufacturing group was not significantly different from the heat-curing group. The additive manufacturing group showed significantly lower mean tensile bond strength than the other two groups.

The surface of glass fiber bundle was modified with functionalized silanes and phenolic resin to improve the tensile strength as well as the adhesion of glass fiber to matrix phenolic resin. The surface modification of reinforcing glass fiber can play a significant role in controlling whole composite characteristics. We applied surface modification of glass fiber with two different functionalized silanes, such as glycidyltrimethoxysilane(G-silane) and aminopropyltriethoxysilane (A-silane), and phenol formaldehyde(PF) resin in one pot or separated process under different coating compositions and temperatures. Thermal treatment temperature is very important factor to improve the mechanical properties of modified glass fiber. Modified glass fiber bundle treated at $170^{\circ}C$ showed the highest tensile strength of $10.05g_f/D$. Surface analyses by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and FT-IR spectroscopy were used to characterize the surface coatings on glass fiber bundles. Mechanical property changes as functions of treatment conditions and coupling agent types were also explained.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the contact angle made by 3 kinds of self etching primers (Clearfil SE Bond, AdheSE, and Tyrian) on dentin and to measure the microtensile bond strength of resin composite to dentin using these self-etching primers. Contact angle between each of 3 self etching primers and polished dentin surface was measured (n=30) by contact angle analyzer and the result was analyzed by One-way ANOVA. For the measurement of microtensile bond strength, polished dentin surface was treated with each of 3 self etching primers and dentin adhesives. Z-250 composite resin was built-up with a height of 5 mm on the adhesive-treated surface and light cured for 40s with a halogen light curing unit. Thereafter, each tooth was sectioned into slabs perpendicular to the bonded interface and trimmed (n=45). The microtensile bond strength was measured with universal testing machine and the result was analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test. AdheSE group showed the highest contact angle followed by Clearfil SE group and Tyrian group (p<0.05). AdheSE group and Clearfil SE group showed significantly higher microtensile bond strength than Tyrian group (P<0.05).

The aim of this study was to evaluate the compomer cement and resin cement as an orthodontic band cement on zirconia crown. A total of 30 specimens were prepared. Preformed stainless steel crowns and zirconia crowns of upper right second primary molar were used. Orthodontic bands were cemented on stainless steel crowns (Group I, n = 10) and zirconia crowns (Group II, n = 10) with compomer cement. The other bands were cemented on zirconia crowns with resin cement (Group III, n = 10). The tensile loads were applied to band to measure the bond strength. The mean of bond strengths of group I, II and III were 0.79 MPa, 1.09 MPa and 1.56 MPa respectively. Bond strength of group II is significantly higher than group I. There was no significant difference between group II and III. Compomer cement and resin cement containing functional monomers showed favorable bond strength of orthodontic bands.
The adhesion characteristics of the thermoplastic resins such as PE, PP PVC, PET and PS were investigated on the surfaces of conventional steel (SS41), steel (SS41P) treated with ultrasonic waves and the SS41P coated with several ceramic powders (SS41PC) by the plasma spray. Alumina (Al$_2$O$_3$), alumina titania (Al$_2$O$_3$95%, TiO$_2$ 5%) and zirconia yttria (ZrO$_2$ 95%, $Y_2$O$_3$5% ) were used for the materials plasma spray The morphologies, surface hardness, surface roughness, and contact angles on SS41, SS41P, and SS41PC were examined. The tensile shear strength and peel strength of the polymers which were attached to the surfaces of ceramics coated on SS41P also were measured. The tensile shear strength and peel strength of polymers adhered to ceramic surface coated on steel were found to be stronger than those of conventional steel. The tensile shear strength and peel strength of the polymers adhered on the surfaces of ceramics coated steel increased in the following order PE > PET > PP > PS > PVC. The high adhesion strength of PE may be attributed to the surface roughness and its anchor effect on the ceramic surface.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of various dentin bonding systems on microtensile bond strength of immediate dentin sealing (IDS) and delayed dentin sealing (DDS). Eighteen extracted permanent molars were used in this study. The teeth for DDS group were restored with a provisional restorations, and immersed in saline solution for 1 week, and divided into 3 subgroups according to various dentin bonding adhesives; SB subgroup (3 step total-etch adhesive), SE subgroup (2 step self-etch adhesive), XE subgroup (1 step self-etch adhesive). In IDS group, the teeth were divided into 3 subgroups, and applied with bonding adhesives as in DDS group. The teeth were restored with provisional restorations, and immersed in saline solution for 1 week. Indirect composite disc was cemented with resin cement, and all specimens were subjected to microtensile bond strength. The data were statistically analyzed with oneway ANOVA and Student t-test. The results were as follows: 1. The IDS group showed significantly higher ${\mu}TBS$ than DDS group in 3 step total-etch and 2 step selfetch adhesive (p < 0.05). 2. In IDS and DDS group, 3 step total-etch adhesive showed the highest ${\mu}TBS$ value, followed by 2 step self-etch, and 1 step self-etch adhesive. In IDS group, the ${\mu}TBS$ value for 1 step self-etch adhesive was significantly different from those of the other subgroups (p < 0.05), and in DDS group, there were statistical differences in all subgroup (p < 0.05). 3. Failure modes of tested dentin bonding adhesives were mostly mixed failure and only 1 step self-etch adhesive showed adhesive failure.
Cellulose nitrates were used for folklore artifacts(ornamental beads and pipes in hatstrings, frames of eyeglasses, ornamental eyeglass cases, headband ornaments, and jeogori buttons) between the 19th and 20th centuries; however, they are susceptible to cracking, crazing, embrittlement, and crumbling due to deterioration. To consolidate and adhere deteriorated cellulose nitrate folklore artifacts, water-soluble acrylic emulsion adhesives were investigated. For consolidation, Plextol D 498, which has the lowest viscosity in low concentrations, was used. In adhesive films whose glass transition temperature(Tg) is lower than room temperature, the tensile stress and modulus decreased and the strain increased; therefore, the flexibility was high. The Plextol D 498 and Plextol D 498 and Dispersion K 52 films maintained their adhesiveness and flexibility after artificial-sunlight-accelerated ageing, and Plextol D 498 and Dispersion K 52 films hardly caused yellowing. Plextol D 498 was the most stable for accelerating ageing. A low concentration of Plextol D 498 emulsion resulted in the best permeability on the surface of cellulose nitrate, compared with other acrylic emulsions. To prevent ornamental hatstrings from cracking, crazing, embrittlement, and crumbling, a Plextol D 498 emulsion was used. After applying low concentrations(1%, 3%) of the emulsion to consolidate the fragments and high concentration to adhere the fragments, the ornamental hatstrings were protected from crumbling by deterioration, and their fragments were well-adhered. To preserve it from deterioration by oxygen and humidity, the treated ornament was sealed with an oxygen-barrier film using a low-humidity oxygen scavenger.
This work is about the development of jet-fuel resistant PVC sealant using a polyester plasticizer. PVC copolymer was compounded with adipic acid glycol(Songcizer P-3000) or DOP plasticizers. Fuel-immersed and non-immersed penetration, solubility, flow, and elongation by tensile adhesion of PVC compounds were measured. Penetration increase by fuel immersion and solubility of PVC compounds with adipic acid glycol polyester plasticizer were smaller than those of PVC compounds with DOP plasticizer. Elongation by tensile adhesion test of PVC compound containing 500 phr of Songcizer P-3000 decreased proportionally to the content of DCDP (dicyclopentadiene) base petroleum resin adhesion promoter. Calcium carbonate($CaCO_3$) filler inhibited the diffusion of fuel in all the PVC compounds and decreased the solubility of PVC compounds containing Songcizer P-3000.
The effect of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) content and coupling agent (polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate, pMDI) on the properties of MFC-reinforced polybutylene succinate (PBS) nanocomposite. With increasing MFC content, tensile strength and elastic modulus were increased. More than 1.5 times in tensile strength of PBS/MFC(70/30) nanocomposite was improved by the addition of pMDI (1 phr), compared to the nanocomposite without pMDI. This trend was being significant in nanocomposite with higher MFC content. Thermal stability of the nanocomposite was increased by the addition of pMDI. These improvements is considered to be due to the improvement of MFC dispersion and interfacial adhesion between MFC and PBS matrix.
