  • PSC (Prestressed Concrete) structures have been used widely for its engineering advantage with using total concrete area as effective compressive section. However tendon inside is exposed to such a high tensile stress that and more attentions should be paid for corrosion control. This work is for changing corrosion current and ultimate strength in tendon with increasing prestressing force in a constant corrosive condition. With increasing prestressing force, corrosion current, corrosion amount, and ultimate load are changed linearly. When prestressing force increases from 20.0 % to 40.0 %, corrosion current increases to 124.4 % and 168.0 % and ultimate load decreases to 87.8 % and 78.4 %, respectively. With inducing constant electrical potential, increasing corrosion current and reduction of strength are evaluated to be linearly related with increasing prestressing load.

  • The moisture absorption behavior, tensile properties, and thermal analysis properties of MWCNT embedded nanocomposites exposed to temperature and moisture were evaluated. The contents of MWCNT were 0 wt%, 1 wt%, and 2 wt%, respectively. The specimens were exposed to immersed conditions at $25^{\circ}C$ and $75^{\circ}C$ for up to 600 hours. According to the results, the apparent moisture content increased as the exposure time increased, but the difference between the maximum moisture content and the moisture content at 600 hours was almost constant. The tensile modulus decreased with increasing exposure time and the degree of decrease was increased significantly as the MWCNT content and exposure temperature increased. The tensile strength decreased with longer exposure time without MWCNT, but increased with MWCNT due to the reinforcing effect of MWCNT. The storage modulus, glass transition temperature, tan d peak magnitude were low as the exposure time increased, but tan d curves with two peaks appeared when exposed to high exposure temperature for more than 300 hours.

  • Unlike other non-destructive inspection method, AE Structural defects that are likely to grow in the operation status can be detected, and the advantage of being due to the continuous monitoring of large structures has been widely used to evaluate the stability. AE sensor used to detect sound wave that occurs between 20kHz to 20MHz. and Sound wave result may vary depending on sensor's sensitivity. In this paper, Tensile test conducted on STS 304 and SS400, and tries to detect the crack signal. In tensile test, specimens were conducted using different sensor sensitivity to the same tensile test condition. The crack signal parameters divided into 4 types of communities by conducting cluster analysis. It was demonstrated that crack signal of two sensor is not different by statistical analysis of null hypotheses. Based on the results, waveform of this tension test is crack signal.

  • In coupon test of carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP) as brittle materials, the converted strain derived from total deformation and effective length was introduced and its advantages were described. In general, measured value from strain gauge is used for determining the tensile properties of material, but it is not quite effective in CFRP because brittle material can not redistribute its stress and it only represents local behavior. For this reason, the converted strain response can be utilized effectively as a supplementary indicator, which evaluated the average value of tensile properties in brittle material and confirmed the strain measured by strain gauge. In addition, the converted strain clearly visualized 1) the effect of initial internal strain caused by fabrication errors and setup misalignment when applying gripping force and 2) post-response of partial rupture of CFRP caused by non-uniform strain distribution. non-uniform strain distribution.

  • Subcritical crack growth in rock material can occur under monotonic and cyclic loading. Subcritical crack growth plays an important role in evaluating the long-term stability of structures in rocks. This paper presents the results of studies conducted to determine subcritical crack growth parameters under monotonic and cyclic loading in rock-like material. The constant stress rate method was employed for monotonic loading. The subcritical crack growth parameter of n under cyclic loading was determined by the relation between the rate of crack growth per cycle and stress intensity factor range. The specimens contained pre-existing flaws with 45 and 60 degrees of inclination angle and flaws spacing and continuity were varied to arrange crack growth in shear or tensile manner. The results show that the parameter of n is almost constant regardless of the applied load conditions such as monotonic and cyclic or shear and tension.

  • This study has observed that the dynamic behavior of Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) in low velocity impact varies with impact velocity. MMCs with 15 fiber volume percent were fabricated by using the squeeze casting method. The AC8A was used as the matrix, and the alumina and the carbon were used as reinforcements. The tensile and vibration tests conducted yielded the yielded the tensile stress and elastic modulus of MMCs The low pass filter and instrumented impact test machine was adopted to study dynamic behaviors of MMCs corresponding to impact velocity. Stable impact signals were obtained by using the low pass filter. Impact corresponding to impact velocity. Stable impact signals were obtained by using the low pass filter. Impact energy of unreinforced alloy and MM s increased as the impact velocity increased. The increase of crack propagation energy was especially prominent, but the dynamic toughness of each material did not change much. To show the relation between crack initiation energy and dynamic fracture toughness, a simple model was proposed by using the strain energy and stress distribution at notch. The model revealed that crack initiation energy is proportional to the square of dynamic fracture toughness and inversely proportional to elastic modulus.

  • The Sectional Design Model(AASHTO LRFD) is appropriate for the design of typical bridge girders, slabs, and other regions of components where the assumptions of traditional engineering beam theory are valid. The shear resistance of a concrete member may be separated into a component, $V_c$, that relies on tensile stresses in the concrete, $V_s$, that relies on tensile stresses in the transverse reinforcement. The expressions for $V_c$ and $V_s$ apply to both prestressed and nonprestressed section, with the terms ${\beta}$ and ${\theta}$ depending on the applied loading(M, V, N, and T) and the properties of the section. With ${\beta}$ taken as 2.0 and ${\theta}$ as 45$^{\circ}$, the expressions for shear strength become essentially identical to those traditionally used for evaluating shear resistance. Recent large-scale experiments, however, have demonstrated that these traditional expression can be seriously unconservative for large members not containing transverse reinforcement. And This paper can present only a brief introduction to shear design of AASHTO LRFD and is to review of the technical difficulty.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of orthodontic brackets bonded to metal bar with chemically cured adhesive (Ortho-one, Bisco Co, USA) in various types and directions of force application. Three types of metal bracket with different bracket base configurations; Micro-Loc base(Tomy Co, Japan), Chessboard base(Daesung Co, Korea), Non-etched Foil-Mesh base(Dentaurum, Germany); were used in this study. Peel, shear, tensile bond strengths were measured by universal testing machine and compared each other. The peel force directions applied were $0^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ},\;75^{\circ},\;90^{\circ}$ And then, in consideration of the different surface area of the bracket bases, the bond strength Per unit area were calculated and compared. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The bond strengths according to the types and the directions of the forces were greatest at the shear forces in all three bracket base configuration groups(p<0.01). 2. As the peel force direction grew higher in degree, peel bond strength decreased. The Patterns of peel bond strength change according to force direction was similar in all three bracket base configurations. The minimum bond strength was 60 degree-peel bond strengths in all three bracket base configurations. 3. In Micro-Loc base group, minimum peel bond strength$(_{60}PBS)$ was in $29\%$ level of shear bond strength and $52\%$ level of tensile bond strength. In Chessboard base group, $_{60}PBS$ was in $34\%$ level of shear bond strength and $61\%$ level of tensile bond strength. In Non-etched Foil-Mesh base group, $_{60}PBS$ was in $34\%$ level of shear bond strength and $55\%$ level of tensile bond strength. 4. The bond strengths per unit area were lowest in Non-etched Foil-Mesh base group and highest in Chessboard base group(p<0.05). However, there were no differences in shear bond strength, tensile bond strength, $75^{\circ}\;and\;90^{\circ}$ per unit area between Micro-Loc and Chessboard base groups.
