PLGA was suggested. Under various conditions, their diameters and porosity as well as mechanical strength were evaluated. In addition to those, cell(chondrocyte) proliferation and formation of extracelluar matrices were also investigated along with the conventional membrane type PLGA scaffolds for the potential use in tissue engineering. As conclusions, this type of scaffold showed a potential of application to tissue engineering in view of mechanical stability as well as cellular responses.

This study aims at re-considering an exemplary teacher in Confucian scholar tradition at the present time of education where teacher's authority gathers dust, the relationship between a teacher and a student is getting hard-hearted and the discussion on the role of a teacher and expertise does not reach an agreement. For this, the article discussed it by dividing an exemplary teacher into a conception of authority, benevolence and example. In view from a Confucian scholar's standpoint, this article found that teacher's authority is rational authority, and it is a product of social institution and social role of a teacher. Moreover, more important finding was that reconciliation is highlighted rather than authority. In a Confucian scholar, it is focused on love and benevolence between a teacher and a student by having humanity as the foundation and courtesy as ways and means. Also a Confucian scholar has demanded a good moral character and professional qualifications of a teacher. This study concludes that teacher's authority is made by teacher's professionalism, social roles and spirit of benevolence; also it has been making a conception of a teacher in Confucian scholar tradition. This study suggests that it needs to re-think about the values and meaning of Asian tradition in our educational settings in which western culture and values is influencing Asian societies too much.

The authors report series of 360 cases of transthoracic fine-needle aspiration cytology (TFNA) from Oct. 1982, through Aug. 1986 at the Seoul National University Hospital. A diagnosis of neoplastic lesion was established in 50.3% of the cases. A non-neoplastic diagnosis was made in 38.5%, nondiagnostic one in 6.5% and inadequate one in 4.7% of the total. Statistical findings on cytological diagnoses were as follows. Specificity was 100% ; sensitivity, 92% ; predictive value for positive, 1.0 ; predictive value for negative, 0.9 ; concordance rate, 84.2% ; diagnostic accuracy in non-neoplastic lesion, 65.4%, and typing accuracy in malignant tumor, 0.77.

Of the forma of Hibiscus Syriacus, national flower, a dozens of them have been recommended for landscape treess. To find out the highly resistant forma, 13 forma of Shrub al thea were fumigatedqr with $SO_2$ in phytotron and their visible injury was observed. Visible injury of Shrub al thea forma was spread on the vein in the shape of spot and diffused to whole leaf with wilting. The injury colors of forma were generally dull bluish green, dark grayish green. The tolerant forma to $SO_2$ were Sanchunyeo, Saeachim, Sulag and the highly sensitive forma were Lusi, Youngkwang. Therefore, Sanchunyeo, Saeachim and Sulag were recommeneded to plant in polluted areas.

Whlie cytologic characteristics of squamous dysplasia, carcinoma in situ, and invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix are well documented, relatively few studios have dealt with the cellular features of microinvasive carcinoma. In order to describe the cellular characteristics of microinvasive squamous cell carcinoma, we retrospectively reviewed 45 cervovaginal smears(15 carcinoma in situ, 15 microinvasive cancer, 15 invasive cancer) which were confirmed by histologic examination of specimens obtained by hysterectomy at the Seoul National University Hospital during S years from 1995 to 1999. The cytologic features about tumor diathesis, inflammatory background, ceil arrangement, anisonucleosis, nuclear membrane irregularity, nuclear chromatin pattern, and nucleoli were observed. The cytologlc characteristics of microinvasive squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix are syncytial pattern, mild tumor diathesis, the irregularity of nuclear membrane, irregularly distributed nuclear chromatin, and occurrence of micronucleoli. But, correlation between the depth of Invasion and the cytologic feature had limited value.

Programmable Metallization Cell (PMC) is a memory device based on the electrolytical characteristic of chalcogenide materials. In this study, we investigate the nature of thin films formed by photo doping of Ag ions into chalcogenide materials for use in solid electrolyte of programmable metallization cell devices. We were able to do more economical approach by using copper which play an electrolyte ions role. The results imply that a Ag-rich phase separates owing to the reaction of Ag with free atoms from chalcogenide materials.

The cytologic samples of 26 ovarian cystic lesions from 25 women, aspirated under guide by trans-vaginal ultrasound, were evaluated for clinicopathologic correlation. Clinically 20 women were seeking medical assistance for infertility problems, and trans-vaginal cyst aspiration was done during follow-up of ovulation induction. Among them seven cases were histologically confirmed. Twenty cases of "benign cyst" in cytologic diagnosis were follicullar cyst and two cases of "endometriotic cyst" in cytology were histologically also proven in one case. One false positive diagnosis was given to corpus luteum cyst. It is emphasized that because the cysts are aspirated transvaginally and mature squamous epithelial cells occasionally could be mixed in the sample, attention should be given not to diagnose such cases as mature cystic teratoma. According to this study. ovarian aspiration cytology is useful in the management of cystic ovarian lesions, particularly in young women.
