A Study on Recognition of Car License Plate using Dynamical Thresholding Method and Kohonen Algorithm (동적인 임계화 방법과 코호넨 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed the car license plate extraction and recognition algorithm using both the dynamical thresholding method and the kohonen algorithm. In general, the areas of car license plate in the car images have distinguishing characteristics, such as the differences in intensity between the areas of characters and the background of the plates, the fixed ratio of width to height of the plates, and the higher dynamical thresholded density rate 7han the other areas, etc. Taking advantage of the characteristics, the thresholded images were created from the original images, and also the density rates were computed. A candidate area was selected, whose density rate was corresponding to the properties of the car license plate obtained from the car license plate. The contour tracking method by utilizing the Kohonen algorithm was applied to extract the specific area which included characters and numbers from an extracted plate area. The characters and numbers of the license place were recognized by using Kohonen algorithm. Kohonen algorithm was very effective o? suppressing noises scattered around the contour. In this study, 80 car images were tested. The result indicate that we proposed is superior in performance.

A study on body awareness and dietary life of adults who perform regular exercise (규칙적인 운동을 하는 성인 남녀의 체형인식 및 식생활 연구)

  • This study was conducted in order to investigate body awareness and dietary life according to gender. Subjects of the study were 120 men and 127 women aged 20 to 30 years, who exercise regularly at a fitness center in Seoul. The subjects were asked to fill out a questionnaire on body awareness, reason for regular exercise, dietary behaviors, and nutrition knowledge. The percentage of overweight and obesity was 69.2% in men, and 25.2% in women. The percentage of subjects who considered themselves as overweight was 38.3% in men and 59.8% in women. Intake of protein in men was higher than the recommended nutrient intake (RNI). Intake of energy in women was lower than the estimated energy requirement (EER). Men who considered themselves as overweight showed lower energy intake than men who considered their body weight as under and normal, whereas no difference in energy intake was observed between women who considered themselves as overweight and women who considered their body weight as under and normal.

An Analysis on the Epistemological Obstacles of Elementary Students in the Learning of Ratio and Rate (비와 비율 학습에서 나타나는 초등학교 학생들의 인식론적 장애 분석)

  • Many obstacles have been found in the learning of ratio and rate. The types of epistemological obstacles concern 'terms', 'calculations' and 'symbols'. It is important to identify the epistemological obstacles that students must overcome to understand the learning of ratio and rate. In this respect, the present study attempts to figure out what types of epistemological obstacles emerge in the area of learning ratio and rate and where these obstacles are generated from and to search for the teaching implications to correct them. The research questions were to analyze this concepts as follow; A. How do elementary students show the epistemological obstacles in ratio and rate? B. What is the reason for epistemological obstacles of elementary students in the learning of ratio and rate? C. What are the teaching implications to correct epistemological obstacles of elementary students in the learning of ratio and rate? In order to analyze the epistemological obstacles of elementary students in the learning of ratio and rate, the present study was conducted in five different elementary schools in Seoul. The test was administered to 138 fifth grade students who learned ratio and rate. The test was performed three times during six weeks. In case of necessity, additional interviews were carried out for thorough examination. The final results of the study are summarized as follows. The epistemological obstacles in the learning of ratio and rate can be categorized into three types. The first type concerns 'terms'. The reason is that realistic context is not sufficient, a definition is too formal. The second type of epistemological obstacle concerns 'calculations'. This second obstacle is caused by the lack of multiplication thought in mathematical problems. As a result of this study, the following conclusions have been made. The epistemological obstacles cannot be helped. They are part of the natural learning process. It is necessary to understand the reasons and search for the teaching implications. Every teacher must try to develop the teaching method.

Consumer's Perception and Utilization of Food Labels by Age and Gender (일반 소비자의 연령과 성별에 따른 식품표시에 대한 인식 및 활용도)

  • This study was carried out to investigate food label perception and utilization classified by age and sex. Questionnaires were collected from 938 male and female customers aged in their 20's to 50's from February 4th to March 30th 2014. Regarding checking food labels at the time of purchase, 73.8% of consumers checked food labels, and there was a significant difference by age and sex. Female more often checked food labels than males, and the 40's group showed a higher ratio of checking food labels than other age groups. The main reason for checking food label was 'confirming expiration date' (60%), 'ingredients' (16.4%), and 'nutrition contents' (13.7%). The main reason not checking food labels was 'too small and insufficient to understand' (50.3%), 'too difficult to understand' (16.4%), and 'have no concern' (14.9%). There was a significant difference by age, as in the 50's group showed a higher ratio of 'too small and insufficient to understand' than the other age groups, and 20's and 30's groups showed a higher ratio of 'too difficult to understand'. The overall satisfaction score was 2.96, awareness score was 2.88, and reliability score was 2.93. A total of 96% answered that food labelling education is needed. Therefore, food labelling education for consumers is required to encourage consumers to purchase healthy foods.

Performance Analysis of Compensation Algorithm for Localization using Equivalent Distance Rate (균등거리비율을 적용한 위치인식 보정 알고리즘 설계 및 성능분석)

  • In this paper, the compensation algorithm for localization using the concept of equivalent distance rate(AEDR) in order to compensate ranging error in the SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging) is proposed and the performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed by the localization experiments. The ranging error of the SDS-TWR in the distance between mobile node and beacon node is measured to average 1m~8m by ranging experiments. But it is confirmed that the performance of the localization by the AEDR is better than that of the SDS-TWR 4 times in university auditorium and corridor, and the localization error of above 3~10m is reduced to average 2m and that of below 3m is reduced to average 1m respectively. It is concluded that the AEDR is superior to the NLOS(Non Line Of Sight) than LOS(Line Of Sight) in performance of ranging compensation for localization, and the AEDR is more helpful to localization systems practically considering the environment of sensor networks is under NLOS.

Daegu citizens' perceptions and factors affecting behavioral intentions to reduce sugars in the coffee shop beverages (커피전문점 음료의 당류 줄이기에 대한 대구시민의 인식 및 행동의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to provide baseline data for establishing a sugar reduction policy at coffee shops by analyzing the factors that affect a coffee shop user's perception and behavioral intention of reducing sugar intake. Methods: An online survey was conducted involving 1,274 Daegu citizens aged 19-49 years, who had visited coffee shops within the last month. Results: When visiting a coffee shop, the purchase of sweet drinks was higher in the younger age group, and the addition of syrup or sugar was higher in the older age group. Of the total respondents, 42.1% were aware that some coffee shops accommodate reduced sugar requests, 57.9% perceived the need to reduce sugar in coffee shop beverages and 22.3% had purchased beverages intending to reduce their sugar intake. In addition, 59.7% knew about sugar nutrition labeling, and 68.8% perceived the need for nutrition labeling for sugar. When purchasing beverages, 35.6% checked the nutrition labeling, and 77.2% purchased alternative drinks when the sugar content was high. Guiding the choice of sweetness levels in coffee shop orders was seen to have the highest effectiveness and intention to reduce sugar intake. Moreover, the perceived need to reduce sugar intake had the most positive effect on the behavioral intention to reduce sugars in coffee shop beverages (β = 0.558, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Although the overall awareness and practice of reducing the sugar intake in coffee shop users were low, the behavioral intention to reduce sugars was positive, and this was most affected by the perception of the need to reduce sugars. Therefore, there is a need for differentiated education and promotion for each age group for recognizing the necessity and outlining methods for reducing sugar intake. Furthermore, coffee shops should reflect customer's sugar reduction needs.

Analysis of the Effects of In-service Education Program on Rural Amenity (농촌어메니티 교원 연수 프로그램 효과 분석)

  • 본 연구에서는 초 중등 교원들의 농업 농촌에 대한 가치 인식 및 학교 현장에서의 학생 지도력을 높이기 위해 교원들에게 농촌어메니티에 대한 이론과 체험 학습을 제공하는 '농촌어메니티 체험 연수 프로그램'의 개발 적용하고, 프로그램의 효과를 분석하였다. '농촌어메니티 개념 및 정책 이해', '농촌어메니티 현장 이해 및 체험', '농촌어메니티 수업 적용'의 3개 영역으로 구성된 총 20시간의 교원연수 프로그램을 개발하였으며, '09. 7. 23. ~ 8. 13.까지 2박 3일씩 5차에 걸쳐 200명의 교사를 대상으로 연수 프로그램을 운영하고, 연수 전후 설문조사를 실시하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 연수에 참여한 교원들의 인구통계학적 특성을 분석한 결과, 여성의 비율이 56.9%로 남성(43.1%)에 비해 높았으며, 일반교사의 비율(53.3%)이 부장교사(26.9%)나 교장 교감 (19.8%)의 비율에 비해 높았다. 연령 분포에서는 50대가 35.2%로 가장 많고, 40대가 32.7%를 차지하고 있었으며, 경력이 20년 이상인 교원들이 67.2%인 것으로 나타났다. 근무기관 분포에서는 초등학교 교원들이 54.8%로 가장 많았으며, 중학교, 고등학교 교원이 각각 20.3%, 18.8%인 것으로 나타났다. 근무지역 분포에서는 중소도시에서 근무하는 교원들이 70.6%로 대다수를 차지하고 있었으며, 농촌거주 경험이 있는 교원들이 64.8%인 것으로 분석되었다. 연수 참여 사전-사후 설문조사를 통한 인식 변화를 분석(Paired samples t-test)한 결과 참여 이후 '농업 농촌에 대한 관심 정도', '농업의 중요도에 대한 인식', '농촌의 생활 정주, 관광 휴양 여건에 대한 인식', '농촌어메니티에 대한 이해도'가 모두 개선된 것으로 나타났다. '농촌어메니티에 대한 중요도 인식'(5점 척도)에서는 환경자원, 자연자원, 역사자원, 경관자원, 시설자원, 경제활동자원, 공동체활동자원으로 분류된 37개의 세부자원들에 대한 중요도 인식이 연수 참여 이후 높아진 것으로 나타났다. 단, 환경자원 가운데 '수질'의 평균 점수는 사전 4.8671, 사후 4.8960로 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 연수 전반에 대해 만족하는 교원의 비율이 98.5%로 나타났으며, 연수 이후 농업 농촌에 대한 이해도가 증가했다는 응답이 98.0%, 학생 지도력이 증가했다는 응답이 95.0%, 연수에서 학습한 내용을 학생지도시 활용하겠다는 응답이 97.5%로 집계되어, 개발된 연수 프로그램이 설계시 수립한 목적 달성에 기여하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

The Effect of Use of Nutrition Labelling on Knowledge and Perception of Nutrition Labelling, and Awareness of Nutrition Labelling Usefulness with among College Students (대학생의 영양표시 확인 여부에 따른 영양표시에 대한 지식, 인식 및 유용성 자각 비교)

  • This study describes the prevalence of nutrition labelling use and its association with demographic factors, knowledge and perception of nutrition labelling, and awareness of nutrition labelling usefulness among 282 college students, aged 21~23 years, in Busan Gyeongnam area. The subjects consisted of 150 of male (53.2%) and 132 of female (46.8%) students. 31.3% of male students and 50% of female students reported reading nutrition labelling always or usually, while 34.7% of male and 13.6% of female subjects reported that they don't use nutrition labelling. Although most of the subjects perceived the need of nutrition labelling, their knowledge and understanding of nutrition labelling and their awareness of nutrition labelling usefulness were not enough to apply the information from the nutrition labelling in their daily life, even in the subjects who reported reading nutrition labelling always or usually. This statement might be one of the reasons why there were no significant differences among the groups divided by nutrition labelling use in regards to the dietary habit or snack eating habit in this study. Therefore, a practical nutrition education program on nutrition labelling should be provided for the college students to increase nutrition labelling use and to apply the information from nutrition labelling in their daily life in order to maintain healthy dietary habit.

Analysis of esthetic factors and evaluation of esthetic perception for maxillary anteriors of dental students (치과대학생의 상악 전치부의 심미적 요소 분석 및 인식도 평가)

  • Purpose: This research is to investigate factors that affect dental aesthetics and analyze whether individual perception affects and difference of genders affects the esthetic factors. Materials and methods: Seventy dental students of Chonnam University aged from 25 to 35 years old without periodontal problems were included. Maxillary dental cast for participants were made, and standardized photo was taken with a digital camera. Maximum visual width and the position of gingival zenith of maxillary anterior teeth and maximum height of the maxillary central incisors were measured by a measurement program and the shape of central incisor was categorized. Questionnaire was conducted to evaluate esthetic perception. SPSS program was used to perform statistical analysis. Results: The average visual width ratio of right maxillary anteriors was 1.38:1:0.78 and 1.41:1:0.81 for the left which differ from the golden ratio. The width to height ratio for right and left central incisor was 0.84 and 0.83 respectively. The gingival zenith position was determined to be: mostly, central incisors and canines were located in the distal side, lateral incisors were located in the center. The visual width ratio of right maxillary anterior teeth, ratio of width to height of central incisor, gingival zenith position, crown morphology and amounts of gingival exposure upon smiling were not significantly different between genders, and facial patterns and these dental esthetic factors were not related to aesthetic perception. Conclusion: Even though participants had the visual width ratio of maxillary anteriors or ideal width to ideal height of central incisors that did not agree with the golden ratio, they had high satisfaction for dental esthetics. Esthetic perception depends more on subjective judgements of participants than objective indices.

Rotation invariant face recognition in a polar coordinate system using LDAr (극좌표계에서 회전에 강인한 LDAr을 이용한 얼굴 인식)

  • 본 논문은 기존 평행좌표를 이용하는 얼굴 영상 대신 극좌표계 변환을 이용한 얼굴 영상을 이용하여 회전에 강인한 얼굴인식 방법을 제안한다. 극좌표계 변환 방법은 얼굴의 중심부분의 한 점을 극으로 삼아 이 점을 기준으로 360도 각 방향으로 일정 길이만큼 얼굴 영상을 샘플링 하여 새로운 얼굴 영상을 제작하는 방법이다. 이 극좌표계 변환 방법을 이용해 재구성된 영상에 대해 회귀( regression )문제 해결을 위해 변형된 LDA인 LDAr(LDA for regression)을 이용하여 얼굴의 중심부분의한 점인 극을 중심으로 임의의 각도로 회전된 영상의 회전 정도를 추정하여 이를 정규화 시키는 방법을 통해 얼굴 인식의 인식률을 향상시키고자 한다. LDAr은 LDA의 기본개념인 각 클래스 간 떨어진 정도를 최대화하는 것이 목적으로 클래스간 분산과 클래스내 분산의 비율을 최대화 하는 방법을 응용하여 이를 회귀문제에 적용할 수 있게 변형을 한 것이다. 즉, LDAr은 목표값(target)의 차이가 큰 샘플들과 목표값의 차이가 작은 샘플들 간의 거리의 비율을 최대화 하는 것을 목적으로 하게 된다. 제안된 방법을 Yale데이터에 적용하여 임의의 각도로 회전시킨 영상에 대해 회전 각도를 정확히 찾아내는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.
