  • This study is about backwash condition and membrane fouling at continuous filtration process in ballast water treatment. Displayed result that handle particle contaminant and hydrospace organism included a number of ballast that is happened in ship using automatic back washing filter. Reason that removes first contaminant that is included in number of ballast is that heighten processing effect of after processing process of the filter. Another advantage is to drop off the solids with controlling revolution of drum screen in pretreatment filtration process. The capacity of pilot plant was $10m^3/h$. The result of the test, Backwash cycle time and duration time and a signification effect on the efficiency of system and backwash Backwash duration time was determined to be fixed in 6 seconds of the system with more than 95% removal rate, It needed 1hour backwash frequency. Filtration system removal aquatic organism over $70{\mu}m$ in ballast water. This study shows that the filtration treatment system has a potential for the treatment of ballast water.

ECR-PECVD 방법으로 제작된 DLC 박막의 기판 Bias 전압 효과

  • DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) 박막은 높은 경도와 가시광선 및 적외선 영역에서의 광 투과도, 전기적 절연성, 화학적 안정성 및 저마찰.내마모 특성 등의 우수한 물리.화학적인 물성을 갖고 있기 때문에 여러 분야의 응용연구가 이루어지고 있다. 이러한 DLC 박막을 제작하는 과정에는 여러 가지가 있으나, 본 연구에서는 ECR-PECVD electron cyclotron resonance plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) 방법을 사용하였다. 이것은 최근에 많이 이용되고 있는 방법으로, 이온화률이 높을뿐만 아니라 상온에서도 성막이 가능하고 넓은 진공도 영역에서 플라즈마 공정이 가능한 장점이 있다. 기판으로는 4" 크기의 S(100)를 사용하였고, 박막을 제작하기 전에 진공 중에서 플라즈마 전처리를 하였다. 플라즈마 전처리는 Ar 가스를 150SCCM 주입시켜 5$\times$10-1 torr 의 진공도를 유지시키면서, ECR power를 700W로 고정하고, 기판 bias 전압을 -300 V로 하여 5분 동안 기판을 청정하였다. DLC 박막은 ECR power를 700W. 가스혼합비와 유량을 CH4/H2 : 10/100 SCCM, 증착시간을 2시간으로 고정하고, 기판 bias 전압을 0, -50, -75, -100, -150, -200V로 변화시켜가면서 제작하였다. 이때 ECR 소스로부터 기판까지의 거리는 150mm로 하였고, 진공도는 2$\times$10-2torr 였으며, 기판 bias 전압은 기판에 13.56 MHz의 RF power를 연결하여 RF power에 의해서 유도되는 negative DC self bias 전압을 이용하였다. 제작된 박막을 Auger electron spectroscopy, elastic recoil detection, Rutherford backscattering spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, secondary electron microscopy, atomic force microscoy, $\alpha$-step, Raman scattering spectroscopu, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy 및 micro hardness tester를 이용하여 기판 bias 전압이 DLC 박막의 특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 분석결과 본 연구에서 제작된 DLC 박막은 탄소와 수소만으로 구성되어 있으며, 비정질 상태임을 알 수 있었다. 기판 bias 전압의 증가에 따라 박막의 두께가 감소됨을 알 수 있었고, -150V에서는 박막이 거의 만들어지지 않았으며, -200V에서는 기판 표면이 식각되었다. 이것은 기판 bias 전압과 ECR 플라즈마에 의한 이온충돌 효과 때문으로 판단되며, 150V 이하에서는 증착되는 양보다 re-sputtering 되는 양이 더 많을 것으로 생각된다. 기판 bias 전압을 증가시킬수록 플라즈마에 의한 이온충돌 현상이 두드러져 탄소와 결합하고 있던 수소원자들이 떨어져 나가는 탈수소화 (dehydrogenation) 현상을 확인할 수 있었으며, 이것은 C-H 결합에너지가 C-C 결합이나 C=C 결합보다 약하여 수소 원자가 비교적 해리가 잘되므로 이러한 현상이 일어난다고 판단된다. 결합이 끊어진 탄소 원자들은 다른 탄소원자들과 결합하여 3차원적 cross-link를 형성시켜 나가면서 내부 압축응력을 증가시키는 것으로 알려져 있으며, hardness 시험 결과로 이것을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 표면거칠기는 기판 bias 전압을 증가시킬수록 더 smooth 해짐을 확인하였다.인하였다.

Effects of Some Soil Conditioners on Soil Physical Properties and Lettuce Growth (토양구조개선제(土壤構造改善劑) 처리(處理)가 토양물리성(土壤物理性)과 상추생육(生育)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of some soil conditioners, such as polyacrylamide(PAM), polyvinylalcohol(PVA) and Bitumen emulsion, on aggregate formation and stability, wetting angle, sorptivity and penetrability of the soil with different textures : sand, sandy loam, loam and clay loam. A pot experiment was carried out to find out the effect of treatment on the germination and growth of lettuce with three textures : sand, sandy loam and silt loam. Soil aggregates larger than 2mm in untreated soils at dry condition were naught in sand, 45% in sandy loam, 80% in loam and 90% in clay loam. Treatments of soil conditioners tended to increase the occurrence of soil aggregate larger than 2mm, which were 20~25% in sand, 55~75% sandy loam, but not affected greatly aggragate occurence in loam and clay loam. The aggregate instability was decreased by the soil conditioner treatment. The wetting angles of the soils were greatly changed by hydrophobic of Bitumen, but those were changed slightly by PVA and PAM application. The sorptivity and penetrability data indicated that the effects of different materials on these parameters differed depending upon soil texture. Application of PVA and PAM were no effect exceptive in sand. Application of Bitumen revealed that water movement was not showed in all soils. The germination rate, root weight and top plant weight of lettuce were increased in all soils by PAM treatment as compared to untreated soils. Particularly the greater effect was occurred in sand soil than in sandy loam and silt loam. PAM increased greatly the moisture content and air phase of soils.

A Comparative Study on the Current Status of Spectacle Frames Standards (안경테 표준규격 실태에 관한 비교 연구)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine various national standards and to suggest problems and improvements on KS (Korean Industrial Standards) in spectacle frames. Methods: We surveyed the latest published KS, ISO (International Organization for Standardization), JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), DIN (Deutsches Institut fur Normung) and ANSI (American National Standards Institute) standards with relating spectacle frames. The titles that were considered in comparative study were terms and vocabulary, measuring system and terminology, marking, requirements and test methods, formers, screw threads, and others. Results: There were 9 different languages such as English (USA and UK), French, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, German, Italian and Spanish for the lists of equivalent terms and vocabulary in all standards except KS and ANSI, but gave an explanation for terms and vocabulary in only KS. Complementary terms and definitions were not existed in annex of KS and ANSI for measuring system and terminology, but they were included in annex of standards of the others. KS and ANSI standard for requirements and test methods differed from the ISO revision. Except JIS and ANSI, standards of formers were almost identical. KS standard of screw threads were similar to JIS. Standards of welded joints and nickel release did not exist in KS. Conclusions: All standards except ANSI tend to follow ISO, especially DIN is almost entirely identical to ISO. But KS is behind the times because it has been amended lately or established in accordance with older editions of ISO. Therefore, in order to assist quality control and safety for spectacle frames, KS standards shall be superseded by the specifications which is identical to ISO within a reasonable time.

  • Seed and pod numbers are the main yield components in soybean. Selection for increased yield potential is main goal of plant breeding. The objective of this study was to identify quantitative trait loci(QTLs) that control pod number per plant, seed number per plant and pod in soybean. The 117 $F_{2:10}$ recombinant inbred lines(RILs) developed from a cross of 'Keunolkong' and 'Shinpaldalkong' were used. Two independent QTLs for pod number per plant were identified from linkage group(LG) F and L. Two QTLs for seed number per plant were located on LG F and L. Seed number per pod was related with three QTLs located on LG D1a, D1b and F. Pod and seed number per plant have two common QTLs on LG F and L.

Effects of the Red Garlic Extract for Anti-Obesity and Hypolipidemic in Obese Rats Induced High Fat Diet (홍마늘 추출물이 고지방식이로 유도된 비만 흰쥐의 항비만 및 지질개선에 미치는 영향)

  • This study tested the anti-obesity and hypolipidemic effects of red garlic extract in obese rats induced by a high fat diet over a period of 4 weeks. Red garlic extract of 15 brix was added in 1, 3, 5 and 7% ratios in diets. The obesity index and body fat content significantly decreased in rats fed a diet with over 3% red garlic extract compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in weight of visceral and epididymal fat in rats fed red garlic extract. Total lipid and triglyceride levels in serum were significantly decreased in a dose-dependent manner, and AI and CRF also fell. ALT and AST activities in groups fed red garlic extract were decreased compared to the control group. Total lipid level in liver tissue of the groups fed 5-7% red garlic extract exhibited a significant decrease compared to the control group. Total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in feces were significantly increased in rats fed a diet with over 5% red garlic extract. Lipid peroxide levels were significantly decreased in the groups fed diets with 5-7% red garlic and antioxidant activity in serum was significantly increased in the group fed a diet with 7% red garlic extract compared to the control group. Our results suggest that red garlic extract could have anti-obesity and hypolipidemic effects for suppressing obesity index and decreasing lipid profiles.

Morphological, Cytological and Molecular Evidence for Intersubgeneric F1 Hybrid between Glycine max x G. tomentella (콩 Glycine max와 G. tomentella의 종간교잡으로부터 얻은 Fl식물체 검증을 위한 형태적 · 세포학적 · 분자유전학적 연구)

  • This study was carried out to demonstrate morphological, cytological and molecular evidence for intersubgeneric $F_1$ hybrid between Glycine tomentella and G. max cv. ‘Baemkong’. Morphological features of $F_1$ plant for pistil and stamen, flower color and growth habit showed intermediate type between G. tomentella and G. max cv. ‘Baemkong’. Chromosome number of $F_1$ plant was 2n=39, which explained the evidence of $F_1$ hybrid between G. tomentella (2n=38) and G. max cv. ‘Baemkong’ (2n=40). Polyacrylamide isoelectric focusing pattern for esterase and peroxidase also showed that the $F_1$ plant was true $F_1$ hybrid between G. tomentella and G. max cv. ‘Baemkong’. From RAPD analysis, we identified that 62 primers showing bands in $F_1$ hybrid had both bands from G. tomentella and G. max cv. ‘Baemkong’, which suggested that this was true $F_1$ hybrid. Based on our results from morphological, cytological and molecular analyses, we suggest that the $F_1$ plant was true intersubgeneric hybrid between G. tomentella and G. max cv. ‘Baemkong’. Our results still remain us further study to recover fertility of $F_1$ hybrids. The occurrence of maternal and/or paternal inheritance in $F_1$ hybrid from intersubgeneric cross between G. tomentella and G. max cv. ‘Baemkong’ need to be explained.

Preparation of Polyurushiol (PUOH) Using Urushiol and Property of LDPE / PUOH Composite Films (우루시올을 활용한 폴리우루시올(PUOH)제조 및 LDPE/PUOH 복합필름 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Urushiol extracted from lacquer tree exhibits good thermal stabilities as well as antimicrobial andantioxidant properties. However, it has been known that the urushiol derivates bring out allergy. In this study, polyurushiol (PUOH) powders were successfully synthesized for the safe and convenient handling of allergic urushiol. First, the as-synthesized PUOH was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermal gravimetric analyzer (TGA), antioxidant test and antimicrobial test. And then, six different LDPE/PUOH composite films were prepared via a twin screw extruder system and investigated their feasibility to use as active packaging materials. Their chemical structures, morphology, thermal optical and antimicrobial properties of the LDPE/PUOH composite films were investigated as a function of PUOH contents. FTIR and SEM results showed that LDPE/PUOH composite films have a weak interfacial interaction and poor dispersion with a high PUOH loading. The thermal properties increased up to 3 wt% as the content of PUOH increases. Compared to the pure LDPE films, LDPE/PUOH composite films are more effective in the UV absorbance and antibacterial activity against E. coli. To maximize the performance of LDPE/PUOH compositefilms as the packaging materials, further researches are required to enhance the dispersion of PUOH powders in the LDPE matrix.

Freeze Treatment of Sludge for the Biogas Production from Brown Macroalgae (슬러지 냉동처리에 의한 갈조류로부터 바이오가스 생산)

  • In the present study, biogas was produced from the anaerobic digestion of marine macroalgae (Laminaria japonica) biomass. The optimal anaerobic condition for producing the sludge was the freeze treatment at $-70^{\circ}C$ for 20 min. Total amounts of hydrogen and methane gas produced were 667.28 mL/L and 3420.24 mL/L, respectively, which were 2.7 and 3.4 times greater than that in the control group. Freeze treatment of sludge produced the maximum biogas under an initial optimum pH of 7.0 and the maximum biomass at an initial optimum pH of 8.0. We confirmed that biogas production was greatly reduced under acidic conditions compared to that under alkaline conditions. Sludge was freeze treated, and the biomass and sludge production was optimal the total amounts of hydrogen and methane gas produced were 643.73 mL/L and 4291.6 mL/L, respectively, which were 2.6 and 4.3 times greater than in the control group. Also the results showed that under optimal conditions in a 5-L bioreactor, a maximum of 1605.03 mL/L of hydrogen and 4593.71 mL/L of methane gas could be produced by the substrate contained in the marine macroalgae biomass.

The Role of Active Oxygen on DNA Damage by Linoleic Acid Peroxidation Products (Linoleic acid 산화생성물(酸化生成物)의 DNA손상작용에 있어서의 활성산소종(活性酸素種)의 역할)

  • The present paper was carried out to investigate the effects of active oxygen radicals on the DNA damage by linoleic acid peroxidation by using active oxygen scavengers in a linoleic acid-DNA system. DNA was greatly damaged by linoleic acid peroxidation, and the DNA damage was inhibited by the addition of active oxygen scavengers. Among active oxygen scavengers tested, ${\alpha}-tocopherol$ and superoxide dismutase greatly inhibited the DNA damage, but catalase and tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane didn't show such effects. Accordingly, singlet oxygen and superoxide anion greatly affected to the DNA damage occurring during linoleic acid peroxidation, and hydrogen peroxide was shown to participate in DNA damage in the early stage of peroxidation. And, the DNA damage by active oxygen radicals was mainly induced in the early stage of linoleic acid peroxidation.
