In the design of foundations for the super-structures such as transmission towers and oil-platforms, the foundations must be considered as a medium to resist cyclic tensile forces. In this study, the uplift capacity of the drilled shaft used as the medium resisting to this pattern of forces is investigated by performing cyclic uplift test of a small model-drilled shaft constructed in compacted granite soil in a steel chamber. In this test, the behavioral difference between a pile loaded on the top of the pile and a pile loaded at the bottom of the pile was investigated intensively. The load transfer curves obtained from the test were investigated by changing the confining pressure in the chamber. The load tests also included creep test and cyclic test. It is found from the tests that uplift capacity of the shaft loaded at the bottom is greater than that of the shaft loaded on the top of the pile. It is found also from the creep test that the pile loaded at the bottom was more stable than the shaft loaded on the top. If a pile loaded at the bottom is pre-tensioned, the pile will be most effective to the creep displacement. It is found also from the cyclic tests that apparent secant modulus obtained in a cycle of the load increases with the number of cycles.
Engineering behaviour of uplift-resisting ground anchors constructed in weathered rocks has been investigated by carrying out a series of full scale pull-out tests. The anchor was to resist uplift forces (buoyancy) associated with high groundwater table acting on the basement of a rail way station. The study has included the ultimate pull-out capacity of the anchors and shear stress transfer mechanism at the anchor-ground interface. The pull-out tests were conducted by changing bonded lengths of the anchor (2~7 m) and diameter of drilled borehole (108~165 mm) to investigate their effects on the behaviour of the anchor. The measured results showed that the ultimate capacity of the anchors was increased with an increase in the bonded length, diameter of drilled borehole as expected. The ultimate capacity of the anchors deduced from the pull-out tests ranged from 392 to 1,569 kN, depending on the above-mentioned factors. This corresponds to the interface shear strength of about 227~505 kPa. Interface shear stresses deduced from the pull-out test showed that the larger the pull-out force, the larger the mobilisation of the interface shear strength. The failure mode of the anchors heavily depended on the bonded lengths of the anchors. When the bonded length was short (2~3 m), a cone-type failure was observed, whereas when the bonded length increased (5~7 m), failure developed at the grout-ground interface.
In this study, the pull-out resistance behavior of the anchor with the bump type resistors at the anchor body was experimentally investigated. In the model tests, the pull-out resistance was measured by pulling out the anchor at a constant speed. Anchor body was installed in the center of the circular sand tank. Pull-out tests were conducted for 10 conditions. The anchor type (existence of the resistor), the friction conditions of the anchor body surface ($1/3{\phi}$, $2/3{\phi}$, ${\phi}$), the bump type resistor set number (1set, 2set, 4set), and the height of resistors (0.05d, 0.10d, 0.20d) were varied. The load-displacement relationship for each conditions was measured during the pull-out tests at a constant speed (1 mm/min). Maximum pull-out length was 80 mm. As a result, the pull-out behavior of the friction type anchor and the expansion type anchor was different. As the number of resistor increased, the maximum pull-out resistance increased and the residual pull-out resistance ratio increased significantly, which were at 171~591 percent larger than that of the friction type anchor.

In this study, three dimensional numerical analyses were carried out to predict axial (pullout and compressive) and lateral behavior of rock-socketed steel pipe pile varying diameter, wall thickness, and length. As a result of the pile pullout analyses, it was confirmed that the pullout displacement was inversely proportional to the pile diameter for given pile length, thickness, pullout load. Load-settlement relationship of the compressive pile analyses revealed that the effect of pile thickness on pile resistance was more significant than that of pile diameter. In addition, laterally loaded pile analyses showed that pile lateral resistance is influenced above all else by pile diameter. This study showed that it is necessary to conduct numerical analyses to identify the effects of pile diameter, wall thickness, and pile length on the steel pipe pile behavior as a preliminary pile design under specified loading conditions.

This paper presents the pull-out behaviors of headed glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebar embedded in mortar under tension loading. Five specimens with headed GFRP rebars that were anchored in the center of mortar bases were constructed and the pull-out test was conducted. To verify the test results, the finite element analysis was conducted and the results were compared with the FE analysis using ANSYS software package. Based on the test results it was indicated that the CCD(concrete capacity design) failure theory should be adopted and not to use the 45o cone failure theory as the breakout capacity in the headed GFRP rebar embedded in mortar.
The frequency slope over a year due to climate collapse is connected with huge casualties and property damage, but the situation rarely reduce the damage that gradually increases in size. In order to suppress this, engineers are improved better reinforcement and continued efforts to improve the shear force or withdrawal force. In this study, the GangWhaGu attached to the nail tip that improves the soil nail pullout resistance, and a method to increase the nail integral GangWhaGu maximize the contact area soil - by increasing the friction of the grout seems to increase the effect of slope stability. In order to validate the experiment to determine the effect of reinforcing the soil nail pullout tests of indoor and Behavior GangWhaGu nail and through field tests were conducted and applicability. Experimental results, the case of a pull-out test compared to the GangWhaGu nail through the tensile force of the nail were to increase by approximately 20%.
In this study, laboratory model test was performed to estimate pullout behavior of pipe type anchor with surface roughness, embedment and diameter. The design of buried pipe anchors in areas of vertical ground movement is governed, in part, by magnitude of the forces imposed on the pipe and displacements at which they are developed. In this paper, uplift resistance and displacement characteristics of pipe anchors caused by ground condition and embedment ratio, surface roughness, pipe diameter through the analysis of pipe anchor model test were compared and analyzed. The test results of the buried pipe showed that as the relative density increases, ultimate uplift resistance increase in 20%. When pipe anchor is failed with the relative density of the ground, the change of surface roughness, it was shown that the deformation increases as the ratio of penetration increases from 2 to 8 in five times approximately. And most anchor-based theories overestimate the breakout factor.

In this study, the steel strip reinforcement bolted with braced angles expected to mobilize skin friction resistance as well as bearing resistance is proposed. Laboratory pullout tests are conducted to investigate the characteristics of pullout behavior. From the test results, friction effects between soil and reinforcement are evaluated with the width of reinforcement, magnitude of surcharge, and existence of bearing resistance member. Further to analyze interference effects for bearing resistance member, pullout tests are also carried by varing the number, the location, and the spacing of braced angles. Based on the test results, pullout resistance factor is evaluated under the consideration of location of braced angles and the degree of interference for spacing ratio.
A series of field pull-out tests were carried out to investigate the behaviour of multi-pressurized soil nails. Ten soil nails were constructed in weathered soil and then, subjected to pull-out loads. The test results showed that the ultimate pull-out resistances of soil nails constructed with high pressure were about 42~142% larger than those obtained from conventional soil nails. The deduced interface shear strength at the ground-grout interface was 71 kPa for conventional soil nails, while higher shear strength of 95~166 kPa was obtained for pressurized nails. The diameter of grouted borehole increased by about 12~27% compared to ordinary soil nails under low pressure. Also, the predicted value by the cavity expansion theory is in good agreement with the measured expanded radius of grout under injection pressure by field pull-out tests.

For Determination of the ultimate uplift capacity, the failure mechanism of the foundation by uplift should be correctly known. However, studies on the variation of the failure mechanism with the embedment ratio of anchor plate among those factors governing the uplift resistance are scarce. In this study. in an attempt to observe more clearly the variation of the failure mechanism with embedment ratio and to check applicability of existing formulae for the ultimate uplift capacity. a model test was performed with ground made of carbon rods, simulating a plane strain conditions. As a result, failure characteristics of shallow and deep anchor conditions were clearly classified. It was found that the analysis of a shallow anchor should be made prior to determination of the ultimate uplift capacity of a deep anchor.
