A New Early Flowering, Spray Chrysanthemum Cultivar for Cut Flower, "Green witch" with Pompon Type and Green Petals (조기개화성의 녹색 폼폰형 절화용 스프레이국화 "그린위치" 육성)

  • A new spray chrysanthemum (Dendranthema grandiflorum) cultivar "Green Witch" was developed from a cross between 'S04161' and 'S04109' by selection of seedlings and lines at the Flower Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services (ARES) from 2004 to 2008. Its characteristics were investigated three times from 2006 to 2008 under condition of forcing culture in spring and retarding culture in autumn. The natural flowering time of "Green Witch" was October 19th, and year-round production was possible by day length treatment. Its capitulum was 3.2cm in diameter, and had 15.9 head per stem in autumn. Its ray floret was green central zone. To flower in the short day condition, for "Green Witch" was about 44 days in spring, and "Green Witch" showed the vase life of 25.3 days in autumn. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2008.

A Study on the Floating Island for Water Quality Improvement of a Reservoir (저수지 수질개선을 위한 인공식물섬 조성에 관한 연구)

  • Three floating islands have been constructed for water quality improvement for a polluted irrigation reservoir. Each floating island consists of 10 segments. Each segment hay an area of $16m^2$(4×4m) and is made of wood frames and floats(polystyrene foam). We planted three species of aquatic macrophytes(Typha angustifolia, Zizania latifolia, and Phragmites australis) in floating island on June, 1998. They grew very well without death. We would like to evaluate Phragmites australis is the most suitable aquatic macrophyte that could be planted in a floating island because it maintained the best balance of its root and shoot among them. During their grown period, net primary productivity of Typha angustifolia was $962gDM/m^2$, Zizania latifolia was $1,115gDM/m^2$, and Phragmites australis was $523gDM/m^2$. From these data, it would be estimated to 5.0Kg uptake of nitrogen by aquatic macrophytes and phosphorus 0.8Kg in 3 floating islands. The floating islands worked well as a habitat of fish and prawns. Many kinds of insect lived on the floating islands. The floating island has not only the function of water quality treatment but also several advantages: improvement of landscape and species diversity; low cost of maintenance; low technology; unnecessary of energy; less susceptible to variations in pollutant loading. It could be evaluated a good measure of water quality improvement for an irrigation reservoir. However, it should be intensively studied to develop more light, strong, durable and low-priced frames for efficient floating islands.

Simulated Acid Rain Effects on Growth and Yield of Rice, Soybean and Sesame (인공 산성강우가 벼, 콩, 참깨의 생육 및 수량에 미치는 영향)

  • To determine effects of simulated acid rain on the growth and yield of rice, soybean and sesame, and on the soil acidity, two cultivars of rice, soybean and sesame were exposed twice a week to one of four simulated rain acidities[pH 2. 6, 3. 6, 4. 6 and 5. 6(control)]. The plants were protected from ambient rain by a polyethylene film cover. No visible damage due to the simulated acid rain was observed at any stage of growth for either of the crops. In rice, heading date, plant height and yield components except ripening ratio were not significantly affected by the pH ofsimulated rain, but the ripening ratio and rough rice yield linearly decreased as the pH of simulated rain was decreased. In soybean, maturing date and yield components except 100 seed weight were not significantly influenced by the pH of simulated rain, but the 100 seed weight and yield linearly decreased as the pH of simulated rain was decreased. Seed yield and the other agronomic characteristics of sesame were not significantly affected by the pH of simulated rain. Soil pH after cropping rice, soybean and sesame decreased as pH of simulated rain was decreased.

Ecological Environment of Native Habitats and Host Plant in Mistletoe (Viscum album var. coloratum) (겨우살이의 서식지생태환경과 기주식물)

  • Regional distribution of mistletoe (Viscum album var.coloratum) and its habitual environments were investigated in order to obtain the basal data on the artificial propagation to cope with its increasing consume for medicine. Mistletoes inhabited throughout the overall region of the South Korea investigated. They were parasitic mainly to the Quercus spp. including Q. serrata and rarely to the Castanea crenata var. dulcis, Prunus serrulata var. spontanea, Alnus japonica, and Pyrus pyrifolia, etc. Mistletoes were not observed on the conifers such as Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis and some deciduous broad-leaved trees species such as Zelkova serrata, Diospyros kaki, Acer mono, Acer palmatum, and Morus alba. Their habitats were located from zero to 1,200 m above sea level nevertheless the direction or slope of the mountains, suggesting that artificial propagation can be carried out nation widely to the well-grown parasite tree species. Parasitic specificity related to the physical and chemical characteristic of the epidermal tissues will be studied further.

The Artificial Cultivation of Pleurotus eryngii (II) -Morphological Characteristics of Fruit Body and Cultural Conditions- (Pleurotus eryngii균의 인공재배 (II) -자실체의 형태적 특성 및 재배조건에 관하여-)

  • These studies were carried out to develop an artificial cultivation method. The diameter and thickness of pileus ranged $1.5{\sim}7.0\;cm$ and $0.8{\sim}3.0\;cm$, respectively. The diameters of stipe were $1.2{\sim}2.5\;cm$ and the lengthes were $4.5{\sim}9.0\;cm$. The spore fingerprint was white. The sizes were spore $10.8{\sim}12.2{\times}4.35{\sim}5.65\;{\mu}m$, basidia $50.0{\sim}59.2{\times}7.4{\sim}7.8\;{\mu}m$, nalsistidia $21.75{\sim}28.7{\times}4.8{\sim}6.1\;{\mu}m$, pileus hymenium cell $50.6{\sim}66.0{\times}4.4{\sim}6.7\;{\mu}m$, and stipe hymenium cell $28.6{\sim}33.0{\times}5.5{\sim}6.6\;{\mu}m$. The thirty percent mixture of rice and wheat bran into sawdust gives the high density of mycelia and the good development of fruiting structure. The optimum water contents of sawdust substrates were $60{\sim}65%$ in which condition the mycelium grows well and gives high density. In PP bottle cultivation, the first fruiting period was $6{\sim}8$ days earlier in nonscratching samples than scratching ones, but the quantity of fruiting body was higher in scratching samples than nonscratching ones. In the case of PP bag cultivation, the first fruiting was 10 days faster, and the quantity of fruiting bodies was 30% higher in samples with 30% wheat bran than those with rice bran. The fleshiness of stipe was $2{\sim}3$ times harder than that of pileus.

Studies on Artificial Cultivation of Pleurotus eryngii (De Canolle ex Fries) Quel. (큰느타리(Pleurotus eryngii)의 인공재배에 관한 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the artificial cultivation of Pleurotus eryngii on the optimal medium vessel, periods of cultivation and the optimal method of pinheading for both yield and quality of fruiting body were also performed. The optimal composition of sawdust medium in polypropylene(PP) bottle was combination of sawdust(70%) and corncob(30%) but increased amount of corncob delayed the period of mycelial growth. The mycelial growth and the yield of fruiting body in the medium with beat pulp were worse than that without beat pulp. The optimal composition of nutrients for both yield and quality of fruit body tuned out to be a combination of rice bran(12%), wheat bran(12%) and cottonseed cake(6%). Additions of zeolite, shell lime and bean curd dregs were not effective in mycelial growth and yield of fruit body. When testing size of PP bottle for cultivation, the larger of bottle mouth is, the more pinheading number found, but the number of available fruit body is not significantly different. The culture in $1100\;ml-{\phi}75\;mm$ bottle is the best in the yield and quality of fruit body than those in $555\;ml-{\phi}50\;mm,\;850\;ml-{\phi}58\;mm,\;850\;ml-{\phi}65\;mm\;and\;1100\;ml-{\phi}65\;mm$ bottle. Using the PP bag for cultivation, a square shaped bag was better than a round shaped and black square shaped in mycelial growth and yield of fruit body. The most suitable period of incubation was 35 days after inoculation at $22{\pm}2^{\circ}C$. When the incubation periods was decreased less than 35 days, the pileus formation and yields were very bad but a pinheading condition looked similar, For an optimal pinheading, turning upside down was better than standing and covering.

Growth of Kale Seedlings Affected by the Control of Light Quality and Intensity under Smart Greenhouse Conditions with Artificial Lights (인공광 스마트온실에서 광질 및 광강도 제어가 케일 실생묘의 생장에 미치는 영향)

  • BACKGROUND: Plant growth under smart greenhouse (that is plant factory system) conditions of an artificial light type is significantly depending on the artificial light sources such as a fluorescent lamps or Light-Emitting Diodes (LEDs) with specific spectral wavelengths regardless of the outside environmental changes. In this experiment, characteristics on the growth and compound synthesis of kale seedlings affected by light qualities and intensities provided by LEDs were mentioned. METHODS AND RESULTS: The kale seedlings which developed 3~4 true leaves were exposed by fluorescent lamps or LEDs lights of red (R), blue+white (BW), blue+red (BR) with 50 (L) or $100(H){\mu}mol/m^2/s^1$ photosynthetic photon flux (PPF) under hydroponic culture system of deep flow technique for 50 days. Shoot fresh weight increased under the RH, BWH, and BRH treatments with higher PPF. Shoot elongation of the seedlings decreased, and polyphenol synthesis promoted by the higher light intensity conditions. Sugar synthesis in the leaves was above 2 times greater under the RH treatment of monochromic red light quality with $100{\mu}mol/m^2/s^1\;PPF$ than $50{\mu}mol/m^2/s^1\;PPF$. CONCLUSION: The results show that the control of light quality and intensity in the smart greenhouse conditions with artificial lights significantly affects the growth and compound synthesis in the fresh kale leaves with higher culture efficiency compared to the conventional soil culture under greenhouse or field conditions. Researches on the optimum light intensities of the LEDs with special spectral wavelengths are necessary for maximum growth and metabolism in the seedlings.

Cultural and Morphological characteristics of fruit body of genus Agrocybe on Artificial Cultivation in Summer (볏짚버섯속(Agrocybe) 보존균주의 여름철 인공재배시 재배 및 형태적 특성)

  • Thirty strains of genus Agrocybe which had been kept in National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science, were tested for the formation of fruiting body. Nineteen strains of collected genus Agrocybe were formed fruiting body at bottle culture of sawdust medium. Five strains (including ASI 19003) and thirteen strains (including ASI 19007) could be grouped as A. cylindracea and A. chaxingu. Although ASI 19008 showed the formation of fruiting body, morphological characteristics were significantly different from the two groups. Cultural period of ASI 19003 strain at sawdust substrates was 29 days and ASI 19007 train was 30 days in liquid spawn inoculation. The yield and quality of ASI 19003 strain was excellent in the spring, fall, and winter, whereas ASI 19007 strain was excellent in the summer. Accordingly, these cultivar might be contribute to farmers' income by stable year-round production if using the season-oriented strain.

Selection of Superior Strains from Collected Ear Mushrooms for Artificial Cultivation and Their Optimal Condition of Mycelial Growth (목이류 인공재배를 위한 우량균주 선발 및 균사생장 최적 조건 구명)

  • This study was carried out to obtain morphological and physiological characteristics of ear mushrooms for an artificial cultivation. Eighteen strains were cultivated with bag culture and classified into mainly five groups such as brown, black, white, purple and others group. The highest yield was shown in 43007 strain as 98.3 g/bag and 43009, 43016, 43025 and 44035 strains were more than 60 g/bag. Among collected strains, 43007, 43009 and 43035 were selected in this study as superior strains. Three selected strains were investigated for optimal mycelial growth conditions. MCM and GPYM media were selected for the favorable culture medium. The carbon sources of 43007, 43009 and 43035 on mycelial growth were maltose, fructose and glucose, respectively and peptone was selected as a nitrogen source. Highest mycelial growth was observed when the C/N ratio was 10 for 43007 and 20 for 43009 and 43035.

A study on better groundwater recharge in Seungchon SC-0 area (승촌 SC-0지역 더 좋은 지하수 함양 방안 연구)

  • 영산강은 황룡강과 지석천이 합류하는 지점이기 때문에 많은 비가 내리면 홍수에 취약한 반면, 인근 지역인 나주시 노안면과 광주광역시 승촌동 지역의 지하수를 풍부하게 해주는 역할을 하고 있다. 특히, 승촌보 인근 지역은 겨울철 수온이 따뜻한 지하수를 활용하여 겨울철 미나리를 대규모로 재배하고 있다. 현재 승촌보 운영 수위를 관리 수위인 E.L.7.5m보다 1.5~2m 낮은 E.L.5.5~6.0m로 운영함에 따라 지하수 수위가 보 관리 수위보다 낮게 형성되고 있다. 이에 K-water 영산강보관리단은 여름철 홍수방어를 위해 설치된 배수문을 겨울철에 닫아 인공소류지를 형성함으로써 겨울철 미나리 재배지역에 지하수가 함양되는지 시험운영을 계획하였다. 배수문 시설을 관리하는 한국농어촌공사 광주지사와 광주광역시 남구청과 협의하였다. 이후 영산강유역환경청 민관협의체 위원장과 주민대표 통장님들께 방문 설명 등 지역주민들의 공감대 형성을 거쳐, '22년 9월 30일 승촌보 인근 승촌배수문 등 5개 배수문을 폐쇄하여 11월 30일까지 소류지에 물을 담수하였다. 또한, 소류지의 수위를 파악하기 위해 GPS 측량으로 해발 표고 산정한 간이 목자판 수위계를 설치하여 소류지내 수위를 모니터링하였다. 승촌배수문(#1)에서 발생한 누수는 스펀지를 바닥에 깔아 보강함으로써 누수를 줄여 소류지 수위를 E.L.6.7m 이상을 유지하였다. 그 결과 영산강에 인접한 SCM-008 지하수 관측소 데이터는 승촌보 운영 수위에 영향을 받고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 미나리 재배 기간인 3월에는 수막 재배로 인한 지하수 사용으로 수위가 가장 낮았으며, 여름철에 지하수 수위가 회복되는 패턴을 반복하였다. 10월~11월 시험운영기간 동안 SCM-005, -008, -101 지하수 관측정은 소류지와 중앙배수로에 가까울수록 인공 함양시 수위 상승효과가 크게 나타났으며, 평년(2020년~2021년) 대비 지하수위 상승을 확인하였다. SC-0 지역은 2022년 가뭄으로 다우년 대비 지하수 수위가 낮았으나, 시험운영 기간 중 지하수 수위 하강 속도가 늦춰지거나, 수위가 상승하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한, 인근 마을주민들에게 시험 운영 결과를 공유하였고, 소류지가 예년처럼 건천화되었을 때보다 지하수 수위상승과 중앙배수로나 소류지에서 양수하는 등 용수 이용에 도움이 되었다는 긍정적인 답변을 받았다. 따라서 2023년도에도 겨울철 미나리 재배 시기 동안 배수문을 닫아 소류지를 형성하여 지하수 함양에 도움이 되록하여, 미나리 지역의 농가 수익 증대에 보탬이 되도록 할 예정이다.
