  • In tissue engineering, a scaffold is a three-dimensional(3D) structure that serves as a template for regeneration the functions of damaged tissues or organs. Among materials for scaffolds, polycaprolactone(PCL) and ${\beta}$-tricalcium phosphate(${\beta}$-TCP) are biodegradable and biocompatible. In this study, we fabricated 3D PCL, blended PCL (60 wt %)/${\beta}$-TCP (40 wt %), and pure ${\beta}$-TCP scaffolds by a multi-head scaffold fabrication system. Scaffolds with a pore size of $600{\pm}20{\mu}m$ was observed by scanning electron microscopy. The effects of 3D PCL, blended PCL (60 wt %)/${\beta}$-TCP (40 wt %) and pure ${\beta}$-TCP scaffolds were analyzed by evaluating their mechanical characteristics. In addition, in an in-vitro study using osteoblast-like saos-2 cells, we confirmed the effects of 3D scaffolds on cellular behaviors such as cell adhesion and proliferation. In summary, the 3D blended PCL (60 wt %)/${\beta}$-TCP (40 wt %) scaffold was found to be suitable for human cancellous bone in terms of its the compressive strength, biocompatibility, and osteoconductivity. Thus, blending PCL and ${\beta}$-TCP could be a promising approach for fabricating 3D scaffolds for effective bone regeneration.

  • Contact area and pressure are important factors which directly influence a life of knee implants. Since implant's mechanical functions should be experimentally evaluated for clinical use, many studies using a knee simulator and a pressure sensor system have been conducted. However it has not been reported that the contact pressure's distribution of a knee implant motion was estimated in real-time during a gate cycle. Therefore. the objective of this study was to analyze the contact pressure distribution for the motion of a joint using the knee simulator and I-scan sensor system. For this purpose, we developed a force-controlled dynamic knee simulator to evaluate the mechanical performance of artificial knee joint. This simulator includes a function of a soft tissue and has a 4-degree-of-freedom to represent an axial compressive load and a flexion angle. As axial compressive force and a flexion angle of the femoral component can be controlled by PC program. The pressure is also measured from I-scan system and simulator to visualize the pressure distribution on the joint contact surfaces under loading condition during walking cycle. The compressive loading curve was the major cause for the contact pressure distribution and its center move in a cycle as to a flexion angie. In conclusion, this system can be used to evaluate to the geometric interaction of femoral and tibial design due to a measured mechanical function such as a contact pressure, contact area and a motion of a loading center.

  • The flow characteristics in the thruster should be analyzed considering its geometry and the pressure ratio to estimate its performance and etc. This paper suggests the computational result of an axisymmetric real nozzle for the altitude control of a satellite to find out the application limit that the assumption of continuum mechanics holds. The steady non-reacted compressible flow field in the unstructured grid system is computed and analyzed with varying the environmental pressure (or the degree of vacuum) under the fixed pressure ratio in a real thruster of which the area ratio of exit to throat is 56. The assumption of the continuum mechanics is not approved when the environmental pressure is reduced less than $10^{-3}$ atm.

  • This paper proposes a new multispectral image data compression algorithm that can efficiently reduce spatial and spectral redundancies by applying classified prediction, a Karhunen-Loeve transform (KLT), and the three-dimensional set partitioning in hierarchical trees (3-D SPIHT) algorithm in the wavelet transform (WT) domain. The classification is performed in the WT domain to exploit the interband classified dependency, while the resulting class information is used for the interband prediction. The residual image data on the prediction errors between the original image data and the predicted image data is decorrelated by a KLT. Finally, the 3-D SPIHT algorithm is used to encode the transformed coefficients listed in a descending order spatially and spectrally as a result of the WT and KLT. Simulation results showed that the reconstructed images after using the proposed algorithm exhibited a better quality and higher compression ratio than those using conventional algorithms.

  • The physical properties of the epoxy resins were studied with an addition of filler content and the application of artificial weathering test. When talc as a filler was added to the epoxy resin (L-30), the water resistance seemed to be increased because of the results of the reducing of water absorption rate and the increasing of contact angle. Although the adhesive strength of epoxy resins was not affected by the increasing amount of talc, its compressive strength was reduced. The physical properties of the epoxy resins had different trends according to the site environments. The artificial weathering test with the change of temperature and humidity showed that the changes of water absorption rate and colour differences of the epoxy resins containing talc were lower than the pure epoxy resin itself. However, the contact angle was higher. The artificial weathering test with ultraviolet irradiations showed the opposite result; the damage of epoxy resins was increased with the increasing of talc content. These mean the site environment of the stone monuments should be considered to determine the content of talc added to increase the durability of epoxy resin.

  • Recently Deep-learning, Technologies using Large or Deep Artificial Neural Networks, have Shown Remarkable Performance, and the Increasing Size of the Network Contributes to its Performance Improvement. However, the Increase in the Size of the Neural Network Leads to an Increase in the Calculation Amount, which Causes Problems Such as Circuit Complexity, Price, Heat Generation, and Real-time Restriction. In This Paper, We Propose and Test a Method to Reduce the Number of Network Connections by Effectively Pruning the Redundancy in the Connection and Showing the Difference between the Performance and the Desired Range of the Original Neural Network. In Particular, we Proposed a Simple Method to Improve the Performance by Re-learning and to Guarantee the Desired Performance by Allocating the Error Rate per Layer in Order to Consider the Difference of each Layer. Experiments have been Performed on a Typical Neural Network Structure such as FCN (full connection network) and CNN (convolution neural network) Structure and Confirmed that the Performance Similar to that of the Original Neural Network can be Obtained by Only about 1/10 Connection.

  • In this paper, we proposed the effective multispectral image compression method using CIBP(classified interband bidrectional prediction) and extended SPIHT(set partition in hierarchical trees) in wavelet domain. We determine separately feature bands that have the highest correlation with other bands in the visible range and in the infrared range of wavelengths. Feature bands are coded to remove the spatial redundancy with SPIHT in the wavelet domain. Prediction bands that have high correlation with feature bands are wavelet transformed and they are classified into one of three classes considering reflection characteristics of the baseband. For Prediction bands, CIBP is performed to reduce the spectral redundancy. for the difference bands between prediction bands and the predicted bands, They are ordered to upgrade the compression efficiency of extended SPIHT with the largest error magnitude. The arranged bands are coded to compensate the prediction error with extended SPIHT. Experiments are carried out on the multispectral images. The results show that the proposed method reconstructs higher quality images than images reconstructed by the conventional methods at the same bit rate.

  • This paper was performed to evaluate the properties of no-coarse lightweight concrete using perlite and expanded polystyrene bead on fine aggregate. The results were shown that w/c and unit weight was affected by absorption ratio and unit weight of using aggregate itself. The compressive strength of no-coarse lightweight concrete was showed $187kgf/cm^2$ by using natural sand, $170kgf/cm^2$ by using perlite. Tensile and bending strength were showed the same tendency of compressive strength, but when expanded polystyrene bead concrete dose not have strength nearly. The pulse velocity and static modulus of elasticity of no-coarse lightweight concrete were smaller than that of normal cement concrete. And stress-strain curves were shown that was increased with increase of stress, and when the stress-strain curve using expanded polystyrene bead was repeated at short intervals increase and decrease irregularly.
