The artificial lightweight aggregate was manufactured using stone-dust(SD) and bottom ash(BA) from crushed aggregate manufacture process and thermoelectric power plant respectively. The properties of artificial lightweight aggregate according to mixing ratio of SD and BA was that the density was decreased and the absorption was increased with increasing BA content, because bottom ash was contained many unburned carbon and $Fe_2O_3$ which generates gas by oxidation during a sintering process. The appropriate mixing ratio of SD and BA was estimated at about 5:5. The properties of artificial lightweight aggregate according to addition flux admixture was that it had lower density with increasing of $Na_2SO_4$ content. In this study, we could developed the artificial lightweight aggregate as the bulk density was $1.52g/cm^3$ and water absorption 7.3% under the condition that mixing ratio of SD:BA was 5:5, $Na_2SO_4$, $Fe_2O_3$ 1%, sintering temperature $1,150^{\circ}C$ and sintering time 15mins.
Concrete is the most commonly used structural materials, but in concrete construction, its self-weight represents a very large proportion of the total load on the structure, and there are clearly considerable advantages in reducing the density of concrete. This study was carried out to investigate the stress-strain properties of no-fines synthetic lightweight concrete with synthetic lightweight coarse aggregates. The used synthetic lightweight coarse aggregate were two types, one was expanded clay with grading 3~8mm, the other is pumice stone with grading 4.75~10mm. The results of this study were summarized as follows ; The static modulus of elasticity of the synthetic lightweight concrete was $1.8{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$ at type CE using the expanded clay and $1.6{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$ at type CL using the pumice stone. The dynamic modulus of elasticity was $1.9{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$(CE) and $2.0{\times}10^5kg/cm^2$(CL). The dynamic modulus of elasticity was 10~30% larger than that of the static modulus of elasticity. The load-time curves of synthetic lightweight concrete were shown approximately similar to each other type except for added foaming agent. The stress-strain curves in uniaxial compressive of synthetic lightweight concrete were similar to each other.

The normal cement concrete is widely used material to build the construction recently, but it has a fault to increase the dead load on account of its unit weight is large compared with strength. So, many engineers are continuously searching for new materials of construction to provide greater performance at lower density. Many studies were carried out on the lightweight aggregate concrete in foreign country in the latter half of the 19th century, therefore lightweight aggregate concrete has been used successfully for many years for structural members. The main purpose of the work described in this paper were to establish its physical and mechanical properties of no-fines lightweight concrete using synthetic lightweight coarse aggregates. Test results are summarized as follows ; The water-cement ratio was shown less than 33% in use synthetic lightweight coarse aggregates, unit weights of synthetic lightweight concrete was shown less than $1,800kg/m^3$ and compressive strength was higher than $200kg/m^2$. And the pulse velocity was more than 3,000m/sec. The relationship of compressive strength between unit weight and pulse velocity was shown to be approximately linear.
The normal cement concrete is widely used material to build the construction recently, but it has a fault to increase the dead load on account of its unit weight is large compared with strength. Therefore, many engineers are continuously searching for new materials of construction to provide greater performance at lower density. The main purpose of the work described in this paper were to establish the physical and mechanical properties of synthetic lightweight aggregate concrete using perlite on fine aggregate and expanded clay, pumice stone on coarse aggregate. The test results of this study are summarized that the water-cement ratio was shown 47% using expanded clay, 56% using pumice stone on coarse aggregate, unit weight was shown $l,622kgf/m^3$ using expanded clay, $l,596kgf/m^3$ using pumice stone on coarse aggregate, and the absorption ratio was shown same as 17%. The compressive strength was shown more than $228kgf/cm^2$, tensile and bending strength was more than $27kgf/cm^2$, $58kgf/cm^2$ at all types, and rebound number with schmidt hammer was increased with increase of compressive strength. The static modulus was $1.12{\times}10^5kgf/cm^2$ using expanded clay, $1.09{\times}10^5kgf/cm^2$ using pumice stone on coarse aggregate, and stress-strain curves were shown that increased with increase of stress, and the strain on the maximum stress was shown identical with $2.0{\times}10^{-3}$, approximately.

Artificial lightweight aggregates were produced by using bottom ashes and dredged soils from coal power plant. The amount of glassy phases on the aggregate surfaces, specific gravities, absorption rates, and observations of cross-sectional surfaces were compared according to the compositions, sintering temperatures, and the amount of coating. It is concluded that surface modification by 10 % $CaCO_3$ coating on the aggregate surfaces enhances the properties of aggregates as follows: Specific gravities were controlled by depressing formation of large pores in the aggregates. Sticking phenomena among aggregates during the sintering process was drastically decreased by reducing glassy phases on the aggregate surfaces. Pumping problems during the application of ready-mix concretes containing lightweight aggregates having high value of absorption rates could be solved by reducing the absorption rate.

In this study, the effect of addition of waste glassy slag produced from recycling of spent catalyst (denoted as waste glass hereafter) on the physical properties of artificial aggregates made of coal bottom ash and dredged soil (7 : 3 by weight base) was evaluated. Especially, the bloating behavior of artificial aggregates was analyzed by performing the relation study between the apparent density, water absorption and microstructure. The apparent density of artificial aggregates increased slightly with sintering temperature at $1050{\sim}1150^{\circ}C$, but decreased above $1150^{\circ}C$ showing bloating phenomenon. The bloating behavior of artificial aggregates was decreased so the apparent density increased with amount of waste glass added. Also, the water absorption of artificial aggregates decreased with sintering temperature. Above $1200^{\circ}C$, big fissure and much liquid were formed at the surface of artificial aggregates and these phenomena could be suppressed by increasing amount of waste glass added. The artificial aggregates fabricated in this study had an apparent density of 1.1~1.6 and water absorption of 8~22 % which meet KS requirements for the artificial lightweight aggregates.
This study was performed to evaluate the stress-strain properties of surlightweight polymer concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregates. The following conclusions were drawn; 1. The dynamic modulus of elasticity was in the range of $1.514{\times}10^5{\sim}1.916{\times}10^5kgf/cm^2$, which was approximately 48~96% of that of the normal cement concrete. It was showed larger with the decrease of synthetic lightweight fine aggregate. 2. The static modulus of elasticity was in the range of $2.552{\times}10^4{\sim}4.386{\times}10^4kgf/cm^2$, which was showed lower compared to that of the normal cement concrete. The poisson's number of surlightweight polymer concrete was less than that of the normal cement concrete. 3. The stress-strain curves of surlightweight polymer concrete were showed smaller with the increase of expanded clay.
