  • The purpose of this study is to investigate experimentally the shear resisting behavior of the reinforced concrete beams strengthened with reinforcement materials. Seven specimens were manufactured and tested under static monotonic loading. The main variables in the test were the method and direction of reinforcement. This research is about the experiment of shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with CFRP-rod, in the filling-up method. The test result indicated that the method of CFRP increase significantly the ultimate shear strength of a reinforced concrete beam.

  • The cost of repairing the deterioration of concrete structures due to corrosion of the reinforcement steel has been the prominent figure in the maintenacne of the reinforced-concrete infrastructures. As an alternative material to steel reinforcement, the use of Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) bar in concrete is being actively studied for the high resistance of chemical environment and high strength to weight ratio properties of GFRP. However, there remain various aspects of GFRP properties that still need to be studied before the standard design criteria can be established. One of the imminent issues is the bond between GFRP and concrete. In this study, the bond-behavior of GFRP bars in concrete is investigated via the pullout test with varying parameters: surface condition of GFRP bars and concrete compression strength. And the local bond-stress model of GFRP rabars with applying monotonc load was also derived from the present test.

  • When reinforcing strip footing on a sand 8round with reticulated root piles, reinforcing effect depends on the length , number, cross sectional area, penetration angle, spacing, and Young's modulus of piles. the mode of action of reinfocement tendons in soil isn't one of carring developed tensile stresses but of anisotropic(uni-directional) reduction or even supression of one normal strain rate. R. H. Bassett and N. C. Last proposed that the reinforcement should be located on the direction of minor strain rate which coincides with the tensile strain rate in the velocity characteristics. Based on this proposal the author carried out a series of 2 - dimentional finite element analysis which varies the parameters mentioned above.

  • In this study, behavior of unpatched and patched cylindrical shells with through-wall cracks has been estimated using numerical experiments, and patching effect of them has been investigated according to various patching parameters. To show credibility of numerical models considered, two ways such as h- and p-methods have been adopted. Also, domain integral method and virtual crack extension method have been considered to calculate energy release rates based on linear elastic fracture mechanics. For examples, the unpatched cylindrical shells with circumferential cracks under remote tension have firstly been analyzed to show the validity of finite element modeling with h-method or p-method, and then the results have been compared with literature values published. Next, the sensitive analysis of patch repaired problems in terms of thickness of patch and adhesive, shear modulus of adhesive, composite material type of patch, crack length, etc. has been carried out.

  • The effect of composite reinforcing bars on surface electrical resistivity of concrete was investigated through experimental program. The resistivity was measured by Wenner method using an equipment with 4 probe. Ordinary steel, GFRP, and CFRP reinforcing bars produced domestically were used and a specimen with no reinforcement was tested for the comparison. This investigation is motivated from the fact that measured value of resistivity of concrete is significantly affected by details of steel reinforcements, such as location, depth and direction of the internal steel reinforcement. These results could be valuable data for evaluation of corrosion degree of concrete structures reinforced or strengthened by the composite reinforcing bars.

  • The Compact Tension (CT) type test was performed in order to evaluate the fracture toughness performance of glass fiber-reinforced laminated timber. Glass fiber textile and sheet Glass fiber reinforced plastic were used as reinforcement. The reinforced laminated timber was formed by inserting and laminating the reinforcement between laminated woods. Compact tension samples are produced under ASTM D5045. The sample length was determined by taking account of the end distance of 7D, and bolt holes (12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm) had been made at the end of artificial notches in advance. The fracture toughness load of sheet fiberglass reinforced plastic reinforced laminated timber was increased 33 % in comparison to unreinforced laminated timber while the glass fiber textile reinforced laminated timber was increased 152 %. According to Double Cantilever Beam theory, the stress intensity factor was 1.08~1.38 for sheet glass fiber reinforced plastic reinforced laminated timber and 1.38~1.86 for glass fiber textile reinforced laminated timber, respectively. That was because, for the glass fiber textile reinforced laminated timber, the fiber array direction of glass fiber and laminated wood orthogonal to each other suppressed the split propagation in the wood.

  • This paper presents the formulation and numerical implementation of a spectral scheme specially developed to simulate dynamic fracture events in unidirectional and cross-ply fiber-reinforced composites. The formulation is based on the spectral representation of the transversely isotropic elastodynamic relations between the traction stresses along the fracture plane and the resulting displacements. Example problem of dynamically propagating cracks in fiber-reinforced composites is investigated and compared with reference solutions available in the literature and/or experimental observations. This scheme can be directly applicable to the interfacial fracture analysis in the FRP reinforced concrete structures.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of plain and steel fiber high strength concrete under uniaxial and biaxial loading condition. A number of plain and steel fiber high strength concrete cubes having 28 days compression strength of 82.7MPa(12,000 psi) were made and tested. Four principal compression stress ratios ($\sigma_2/\sigma_1$=0.00, 050, 0.75 and 1.00), and four fiber concentrations($V_f$ =0.0, 0.5, 1.0 and $1.5\%$) were selected as major test variables. From test results, it is shown that confinement stress in minor stress direction has pronounced effect on the strength and deformational behavior. Both of the stiffness and ultimate strength of the plain and fiber high strength concrete Increased. The maximum increase of ultimate strength occurred at biaxial stress ratio of 0.5($\sigma_2/\sigma_1=0.5$) in the plain high strength concrete and the value were recorded $30\%$ over than the strength under uniaxial condition. The failure modes of plain high strength concrete under uniaxial compression were shown as splitting type of failure but steel fiber concrete specimens under biaxial condition showed shear type failure. The values of elastic modulus were also examined higher than that from ACI and CEB expression under biaxial compression condition.

  • Recently, as the magnitude and frequency of earthquakes increases, research is needed to increase the ductility of the columns in order to prevent the collapse of structures. In this study, to evaluate the performance of columns reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcing bars, the FE model for the dynamic analysis of structures reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcing bars for circular and rectangular columns is to be verified using the results of uniaxial compression experiments in the previous study. As a result, the experimental value of the column reinforced with continuous transverse reinforcement and the result value related to the dynamic analysis showed similar behavior, and the reliability was high. As a result of the analysis, the usability of the rectangular column reinforced with continuous lateral reinforcing bars was confirmed because the dissipated energy performance of the columns reinforced with spiral reinforcing bars was higher than that of the columns reinforced with band reinforcing bars.
