Internal Flow Aerodynamic Test of a Mach 5 Scramjet Engine (마하 5 스크램젯 엔진의 내부 유동 공력 시험)

  • An internal flow aerodynamic test was performed for a Mach 5 scramjet engine. The test was done without fuel injection, as a preliminary test for the combustion test. Test engine is an engineering model with intake cross-section of $70mm{\times}200mm$ and total length of 1.7m. Test facility is a blowdown-type, high enthalpy, hypersonic facility. 19 pressures were measured through the holes on the model surface along the engine internal flow passage. It was found that the facility start is possible, and also supersonic flow is maintained inside the engine.

  • In the mold parts industry, customers typically place orders for order-made parts with some changes to the design specifications of ready-made parts within the extent of the manufacturing capability of the supplier. Being customized for ready-made parts, existing e-Catalog systems cannot support the above trade pattern. To solve this problem, an ETO (engineering-to-order) method is proposed here, enabling the trade of order-made parts in an e-Catalog system by utilizing the design and manufacturing knowledge of the part suppliers. After addressing technological challenges and solutions, we briefly describe application of the ETO method to two types of mold parts - ejector pins and mold bases.

  • The thrust vector control using a fluidic counterflow concept is achieved by applying a vacuum to a slot adjacent to a primary jet which is shrouded by a suction collar. The vacuum produces a secondary reverse flowing stream near the primary jet. The shear layers between the two counterflowing streams mix and entrain mass from the surrounding fluid. The presence of the collar inhibits mass entrainment and the flow near the collar accelerates causing a drop in pressure on the collar. For the vacuum asymmetrically applied to one side of the nozzle, the jet will vector toward the low-pressure region. The present study is performed to investigate the effectiveness of thrust vector control using the fluidic counterflow concept. A computational work is carried out using the two-dimensional, compressible Navier-Stokes equations, with several kinds of turbulence models. The computational results are compared with the previous experimental ones. It is found that the present fluidic counterflow concept is a viable method to vector the thrust of a propulsion system.

Study on Development of Inducing Airflow Duct System for Kitchen Hood Using Ejector Method (이젝터 기술을 활용한 주방후드용 기류유인 덕트 시스템의 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Kitchen hoods are limited in discharging all contaminants produced during cooking. Contaminants that have not been discharged can rise to the upper part of the kitchen and become stacked. To solve this problem, there is a way to increase the air volume of the kitchen hood, but there are limits, so a new system is required. This study proposes the Duct System (IADK : Inducing Airflow Duct system for Kitchen hood )through 3D printers and experiments. To do this, the pressure is measured to verify the three levels of air volume provided by the kitchen hood. To check the degree of loss of flow in the existing kitchen hood system, install flexible ducts alone to measure the pressure. Change the internal diameter and type of connection of the IADK and measure the pressure. The air pressure, static pressure difference, and loss factor are calculated and analyzed using the pressure measured through the experiment.

  • Real-time measurements of fine particles from stack emission gases are necessary due to the needs of continuous environmental monitoring of PM10 and PM2.5. The porous tube dilutor using hot and cold dilutions was developed to measure fine particles without condensable particles from highly humid emission gases and compared to the commercialized ejector-type dilutor. Particle size distributions were measured at the emission gases from a diesel engine and a coal-fired boiler. The porous tube dilutor could successfully measure the accumulation mode particles including relatively large particles more than $3{\mu}m$ without nuclei particles, while the ejector dilutor detected some condensable particles and could not detect large particles. The porous tube dilutor could successfully remove the already condensed water droplet particles generated by a humidifier in a $30m^3$ chamber.

A Study on the Closed-Loop Air Drying Technology for Drying Wastewater Sludge (하수슬러지 건조를 위한 폐루프 공기건조 기술에 관한 연구)

  • Air drying is a technology to dry sludge at the ejector and multi cyclone as intaking and blowing air from outside. So, this technology has a weak point that operating fluctuation is large according to an outside conditions as well as energy consumption is also large due to open loop structure. This is to develop the closed-loop air drying system to be built the dehumidifier consisted of condenser, cooler and compressor at rear side of separator of air dryer, as a way to solve some problem. Air is circulation by the method of blowing-drying-dehumidifying-blowing within this system. It is analyzed that an air circulated at closed-loop air drying equipment contains the energy of 50% more compared with open-loop air drying and is operated regularly because of quality maintenance of air to dry sludge. And also it is analyzed that the cost of drying sludge of 1 ton by closed-loop air drying equipment is lower about 35% than conventional equipment. Therefore, this is evaluated by useful drying technology to face an unexpected climatic conditions due to regular operation as well as low energy consumption.

  • Korea Aerospace Research Institute started on design and development of a hypersonic air-breathing engine test facility from 2000 and completed the test facility installation in July 2009. This facility, designated as Scramjet engine test facility(SeTF), is a blow-down type high enthalpy wind tunnel which has a pressurized air supply system, air heater system, free-jet test chamber, fuel supply system, facility control/measurement system and exhaust system. In this paper, details of the specifications, and configuration of the SeTF are described. For verifying characteristics of the SeTF, wind tunnel tests are now on progress and some of the data are also described.

  • In LED chip packaging, die bonding is a very important process which fixes the LED chip on the lead frame to provide enough strength for the next process. Conventional pick-up device of the die bonder is simply operated by up and down motion of a collet and an ejector pin. However, this method may cause undesired problems such as position misalignment and/or severe die damage when the pick-up device reaches the die. In this study, to minimize the position alignment error and die damage, a die bonder is developed by adopting a new pick-up head for precise alignment and high speed feeding. To evaluate structural stability of the designed system, required finite element model of the die bonder is generated, and structural analysis is performed. Vibration analysis of the pick-up head is also performed using developed finite element model at operation frequency range. As a result of the analysis, deformation, stress, and natural frequency of the die bonder are investigated.

High Altitude Test Facility for Small Scale Liquid Rocket Engine (소형 액체로켓엔진 고공환경 모사시험 설비)

  • A high altitude test facility which includes supersonic diffuser and ejector has been developed to simulate atmospheric pressure at 25 km using a 500 N class small scale liquid rocket engine. Also high altitude simulation test for the small scale liquid rocket engine was performed to verify the facility's performance. The experimental facility consists of high altitude simulation device, propellants supply system and coolant supply system. Low pressure condition corresponding to about 27 km(0.021 bar) altitude atmosphere was successfully simulated and a small scale liquid rocket engine thrust level was confirmed at the simulated condition by the high altitude test facility verification test.
