Lee Je-Ma's theory claimed Xin(心) as Qi(氣). But he also described Xin as Taiji(太極) in the center as if Xin combines LI(理) and Qi. Taiji is meant to be a residence of the body, but it does not mean that Xin equals Li. The relations between Xin and the remaining four viscera are similar to the relations between RenXin(人心) and DaeXin(道心) and Zhuzi's(朱子) theory in many respects. If the theory that Xin equals Daoxan and FeiPiGanShen(肺脾肝腎) equals RenXin is acceptable, the vertical relations between Xin and FeiPiGanShen can be explained. That is, Xin is explained as the controller of the body, and FeiPiGanShen acts as a subordinate serving Xin. In other words, the relations associated with Xin can explain physiological states of the body. When the Xin does not function normally, FeiPiGanShen cannot perform its roles and will have a negative impact on physiological functions of the body.

Sasang Constitutional Medicine is the constition medicine and the basis which constitution reveals is the distinction of the nature and emotion. Therefore the theory of the nature and emotion is the foundation which Sasang Constitution Medicine is coming into being. The author studied the progress that the distinction of the nature and emotion was formed and analized the phenomenon presented by the distinction of it as the principle of the movement of Yin and Yang. The results are following; 1. The beginning of the operation of the nature begins from some one part(cho ; 焦) among four part. That consists of the first factor of constitution-revelation. In accordance with the distinction of the nature, the second factor, that is the distinction of the emotion is determined and the united distinction of the nature and emotion presents the Sasang constitution. 2. The operation of the nature and emotion is the movement of Qi by the property of Yin and Yang and that is the phenomenon presented by the logical and scientifical law. 3. The ontology of Lee Je-ma is Qi-monism. 4. Four emotion(Sorrow, Anger, Joy, Presure) are not partional concept of the emotion but total concept which include all of it.

Lee Je Ma (1837~1900) wrote the DongEuSuSeBoWon in 1894. Constitutional Medicine what is called Sasang Medicine has originated from him. In this book he refers to mild, serious, intractable, incurable and fatal disease. In the sight of his Medical theory each state of disease deserves to be researched. 1. In the case of Soumin exhaustion of Yang, Taeyang-Kwolum, noxious Yin, Yang is kept in the exterior by excessive Yin in the interior, middle diabetes and swelling belong to intractable disease and solid mass in the right epigastric zone belongs to fatal disease. 2. In the case of Soyangin exhaustion of Yin, lower diabetes, afternoon fever due to deficiency of Yin, spitting blood and swelling belong to intractable disease and distention of abdomen with gas or fluid belongs to fatal disease. 3. In the case of Taeumin syncope due to chills, dryness-heat, diabetes, pain of chest and abdomen and swelling belong to intractable disease and apoplexy with dosed eyes belongs to fatal disease. 4. In the case of Taeyangin vertebral disease makes flaccidity of lower limbs and dysphagia with vomiting of frothy fluid belongs to fatal disease.

I In the rearch of the principle of herb classification based on constitution I have recognised Lee Jae Ma(李濟馬)'s medical thought on the herb. He had believed that herb must be used when needed, also had opposed taking overdose of medicine. And he had prescribed to a patient based on constitution. The results were summerized as follow; 1. In the classification of herb according to constitution, Although Gimilon(氣味論) that empasized in the herbal medicine have had reference value but cannot be absolute classific standard. The medicinal portion of herb was not significant. And through research the past prescription that were qouted by Lee Jae Ma cannot find a meaningful result. 2. Lee Jae Ma denied the tradtional GuiKyung(歸經) theory, and classified into Iung(肺), spleen(脾), liver(肝), kidney(腎). And when he gave medical teatment, he has used the methods of the supplement to weakned organ. 3. On the principle of herb classification based on constitution, Lee Jae Ma had presented general rule that are fragrance(馨), odor(臭), liquid(液), taste(味). Although it had suitable tendency but cannot complitely coinside with the actual. Therefore I interpreted fragrance(馨), odor(臭), liquid(液), taste(味) into the symbol that represent the chief effect. On these conception it's necessary more study.

Lee jaema pointed out Zhugong as well as Zhang zhongjing and Hur joon to be the most worthy medical men in his book, Dong-eui-soo-sae-bo-won. Nevertheless, there has not been much research on Zhugong. This paper treats relations between contents in 'Huo-ren-shu' and 'Dong-eui-soo-sae-bo-won'. From this, we could find the reason why Lee jaema had estimated Zhugong so highly. The correlation between two books can be summarized as follows. First, both books emphasize biaoli and yinyang. Second, both books put their priority on bianbing over bianzheng. Third, Dong-eui-soo-sae-bo-won quoted the most medical cases and prescriptions from Huo-ren-shu after Shang-han-lun.

We compared the texts of the two types of military books, 『Mubiji』 and 『Yungsalyujeom (戎事類占)』. In this research, it is proved that Lee-Jema transcribed a segment on martial mantic in 『Mubiji (武備志)』 which is a book on military studies and named it 「Jipungjo (知風兆)」 since he had practical interest in military affairs. Lee-Jema had been serving as a military officer when his peculiar thought was beginning to unfold and maintained his interest in military affairs until his latter years. It is necessary to take a military studies based approach to comprehend Lee-Jema's thought since military affairs had great influence on his life.

Objectives: In this study, we examine whether Sasang constitutions include all 8 attitude-function types, forming a complete paradigm from the perspective of Jungian psychological type theory. Methods: Analysis of the meanings of psychological attitudes and function of each Sasang constitution was performed, comparing them with the typological theories of C.G.Jung and John Beebe, both of whom are eminent minds in Jungian typology. Results and Conclusions: (1) Each Sasang constitution had all 8 psychological attitude-function combinations, which are diversely differentiated by type within their conscious and unconscious psyches. This is likely because attitudes and functions that develop in the conscious mind build up compensating attitudes and functions in the unconscious. (2) It seems that extroversion and introversion coexist within every Sasang constitution as psychological descriptions reported by Lee, Je ma state. The superior and inferior functions are disposed in the order of organ size in Sasang constitutions, but dominance of extroversion or introversion as defined by Jung's concepts of attitude does not seem to be determined by constitution.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of mind-body medicine revealed in the Sa-sang constitutional medicin. Methods: This study examined the psychosomatic aspects of "DongUiSuSeBoWon" that Lee Je-ma wrote about the Sa-sang constitutional medicine, comparing them to Neo-Confucianism and Oriental medicine. Results: Sa-sang constitutions contain much content that can be applied to mind-body medicine. Conclusions: First, the principle of disease caused by mental and physical connections was clearly suggested, as it was considered that when emotions of joy, sorrow, and pleasure reach their peak, they cause fatal damage to the body. Second, it was encouraged to prevent diseases by giving specific examples to prevent the prejudice of the methodology of looking back when it hasn't happened yet and the feeling of anger and joy before the emotions of joy and sorrow are revealed. Third, it suggested the treatment of mental and physical diseases using drugs for diseases that have already occurred and psychiatric methods.

Objectives : In order to understand and apply Lee Jema's emotion control method, the basic concepts of his nature-temperament theory was examined. Lee's thoughts on emotion control, and the basic principles of his method were deduced from this process. Methods : The meaning and set-up of basic concepts in his nature-temperament theory as written in text such as the Donguisusebowon, Gyeokchigo, and Donguisusebowon Sasang Chobongwon were examined, and compared with similar concepts of Confucianism. Results & Conclusions : Out of concepts set by Lee, the Ae(哀)-No(怒)-Hui(喜)-Rak(樂) nature-temperament is the condition for emotion control. Junghwa(中和) is the aim of emotion control according to different stages of emotional expression, and Jiin(知人) is the precondition for emotion control. Lee's basic principles of emotion control could be summarized as following. First, it must be done with the aim for 'Goodness[善]' to be manifested. Second, it must be based on clear understanding of 'Insa(人事)'. Lastly, Hoyeonjigi(浩然之氣) and Hoyeonjiri(浩然之理) must be consistently cultivated for stable emotion control.
