  • 하수슬러지는 산업의 발달 및 인구의 증가로 인하여 증가하는 폐수의 양에 비례하여 증가하고 있다. 폐수 처리량과 함께 슬러지의 발생량은 1997년 이후 매년 3% 이상의 증가를 보이고 있다. 특히 최근에는 수질환경 개선 사업의 확대로 인하여 하수처리장이나 폐수처리장의 처리 용량은 매련 증가하고 있으며, 농축산 산업의 발달로 농촌지역의 농수산 폐수처리장의 시설용량의 증가로 슬러지 발생량 증가는 가속되어 2005년에는 연간 1000만톤 이상이 발생할 것으로 예측되고 있다.(중략)

An Analysis of Seawater Effect on Groundwater Quality, in the Region of Sinan-gun area, Jeonam, Korea (전남 신안군 지역의 지하수 수질에 대한 해수의 영향 분석)

  • The purpose of the study was to evaluate the groundwater quality of Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do, an island located in the southern part of the Korean peninsula where the effect of seawater on the groundwater quality had not been investigated in the past. In order to evaluate its effect, the hydrogeological parameters including groundwater quality and major dissolved components were investigated. The water quality was measured four times in the field, and 74 of 163 samples that showed the high conductivity value of more than $500{\mu}S/cm$ and the influence of seawater on the groundwater were analyzed by $Cl^-/HCO_3{^-}$ molar ratio. The results showed that, 40 samples out of 74 were found to have a value of 2.8 or more, indicating severe and very severe effects. According to the type of groundwater quality, the ratio of samples belonging to Na-Cl type, which is considered to be influenced by the direct seawater, is 35.3% for bedrock groundwater and 52.5% for weathered zone and alluvial groundwater. In the evolution stage of groundwater due to seawater infiltration, the type of Ca-Cl prior to the Na-Cl type is 44.1% in bedrock groundwater and 45% in weathered zone and alluvial groundwater. The effect of sea water on the aquifer is likely to be influenced by distance from the shore, pumped water, and tide.

  • 급속한 산업화로 인한 오염물질의 증가와 생물서식처의 감소는 수자원과 생태계를 위협하고 있다. 국내의 경우 수자원의 질을 개선하기 위해 '90년대 초부터 하수처리시설 등의 저감시설을 대폭 확충하였으나 현재까지 팔당호 등 주요상수원이 목표수질에 못 미치고 있으며 그 원인은 유입오염물질의 $22{\sim}37%$를 차지하는 비점오염원으로 지목되고 있다. 또한 생태.경관적 가치가 높은 수변지역은 각종 개발로 생물서식처가 급속도로 감소하여 종 다양성 보전 측면에서 대책마련이 시급한 실정이다. 이와 유사한 상황에 직면한 선진외국에서는 '하천회랑(river corridor)' 또는 '토양 및 생태시스템을 포함하는 수역과 육역의 점이(漸移)지대'를 의미하는 이른바 '수변완충지대(Riparian Buffer Zones)'의 오염정화 및 생태조성 효과 등의 연구를 통해 효율적 조성방안을 제시하고 있으며 다양한 형태로 현장에 적용하고 있다. RBZs의 일반적인 기능으로는, 유사나 오염물질의 여과 및 차단(필터링 효과), 영양염류의 저감, 하천변 식생을 통한 수자원의 정화 및 강턱의 안정화, 홍수로 인한 하천침식의 방지, 수변 생물 서식처 제공, 수변 그늘 제공에 의한 수온상승 방지, 심미 교육 위락 공간 제공 등이다. 본 연구에서는 외국의 RBZs(Riparian Buffer Zones)가이드라인을 참고하여 국내실정에 맞는 파일럿 규모의 시험완충지를 설계 및 조성하였다. 시험완충지는 남한강 연안에 초본류, 갈대류, 관목류, 자연식생, 혼합식생 등 5가지 'dry biotope'형태로 설치하여 1년간 계절별로 운영하였다. 또한 실험의 정량화와 다양한 조건변화를 위해 차수막, 위어, 유량.농도 조절장치, 라이시미터 등 보조시설을 설치하였고, 정기적인 모니터링을 실시하였다. 조사결과 외국사례를 살펴보면 RBZs의 적정 폭은 수질정화기능의 경우 $15{\sim}30m$, 생태서식처 기능은 최소 90m이상으로 제시되며, 시험완충지의 수질정화효과는 SS, T-N, T-P, TOC의 평균저감율이 각각 50%이상으로 나타났다. 식생모니터링 결과, 환삼덩굴 등 우점종의 잠식속도는 약 15일이며 갈대와 갯버들의 경우 우기시 인공목책호안과 동일한 침식방지 효과를 보이는 것으로 관찰되어 식생의 주기적인 모니터링과 지역 특성에 적합한 우점종 선정이 매우 중요한 것으로 판단된다.

Marine Environmental Characteristics around the Test Phase of Offshore Wind Farm in the Southwestern Coast of Yellow Sea (서남해 해상풍력 실증단지 해역의 해양 환경 특성)

  • This study aims to present the characteristics of marine physics, water quality, and sediment quality around offshore wind farm near the Gochang and Buan sea areas through the analysis of monitoring data. The relationships between suspended solid and wave height as well as suspended solid and flow velocity were analyzed. We found that Correlation Coefficient values of 0.61~0.69 between wave height and suspended solid, and suspended solid concentration reaches 75 mg/L or higher when wave height of more than 1m occurred in the spring (1 month). The water quality index (WQI) was used to identify the status of the water quality in the study area. Most of the measured points were rated first grade (very good). The variation of chlorophyll-a was relatively hight compared to the other criteria, indicating that it is a major factor affecting the quality index. In the sediment column, all heavy metals were detected below the Threshold Effects Level(TEL), and ignition loss and grain size show a positive correlation.

Spatio-temporal Evaluation of Air Temperature-Water Quality Elasticity in Tributary Streams According To Climate Change (기후변화에 따른 지류 하천의 시공간적 기온-수질 탄성도 영향 평가)

  • Elasticity is a statistical technique that interprets the changing pattern of another variable according to a change in one variable as a quantitative numerical value and provides more information than correlation analysis and is widely used in climate change research. In this study the elasticity was calculated and sensitivity analysis was performed using air temperature and water quality data of the major tributaries of the Nakdong River. In addition the confidence interval for the elasticity was calculated using the T-Test and the validity of the elasticity was examined. The strength of elasticity shows high strength in the order of summer>fall>spring>winter and the direction shows regional characteristics with both negative and positive elasticity. After performing hierarchical cluster analysis on monthly observation data they were classified into 5 clusters and the characteristics of each cluster were visually analyzed using a parallel coordinate graph. The direction and intensity of the air temperature elasticity show regional characteristics due to the relatively high population density and complex influencing factors such as sewage treatment plants, small-scale livestock houses and agricultural activities. In the case of TP it shows great regional variability according to the circulation of nutrients in the ecosystem caused by algae growth and death according to temperature changes. Since the air temperature elasticity of the major tributaries of the Nakdong River is over weak and is valid at the significance level of 5%, it was analyzed that there is a change in water quality according to the air temperature change.

The Study of Advanced Treatment of Sewage Wastewater by the Electro Coagulation and Oxidation System (전기응집산화를 이용한 하수처리장의 고도처리방안 연구)

  • Due to the enforcement of effluent water regulation the advance sewage treatment system is needed to retrofit and remodelling. In this case the most important issue is the effluent concentrations of TP and there are a lot of system to reduce its concentration. But biological treatment processes have many restrictions to enhance the removal efficiency of TP. In this study the efficient ECO operating condition to improve and retrofit biological sewage wastewater treatment system is as follow; 1) The treatment efficiency of BOD, TN and TP at the current density of $15mA/cm^2$ was higher than the treatment efficiency at $5mA/cm^2$ in the electrodes arranged with Al-SUS(Stainless Steel) regardless of the reaction time, The TP concentration was 0.1 mg/L or less. Especially, when the reaction time was maintained at 10 min, the TP concentration was 0.06 mg/L or less irrespective of the current density. 2) The change of TP concentration is not influenced by the change of current density and rather the concentration of treated water changes according to the reaction time. In the case of electro coagulation reaction, a few seconds to several minutes are required. However, the reaction time of electro coagulation and oxidation was studied to be more than 10 minutes. 3) As a result, it has been studied that the economical current density of the electro coagulation oxidation process for TN and TP treatment of domestic wastewater is $15mA/cm^2$ or less and the reaction time is 10 minutes.

Evaluation of environmental drought index applicability for watershed-specific drought management (유역 맞춤형 가뭄 관리를 위한 환경가뭄지수 적용성 평가)

  • This study comprehensively evaluates the environmental impacts of droughts caused by abnormal climate change. Specifically, to quantitatively analyze the impact of droughts on the water environment of river basins, an Environmental Drought Index (EDI) was developed using meteorological, hydrological, and water quality parameters. The study focuses on the Han River basin, categorizing the watersheds into urban, agricultural, and forest types to develop region-specific EDIs. Various data analysis techniques, such as multiple linear regression, principal component and random forest analysis, were employed to determine the weights of different parameters to assess the impact of droughts. The primary water quality parameter used in the assessment was BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand). The results showed that in urban areas, TOC (Total Organic Carbon) and flow were the primary parameters, with significant deterioration in water quality during droughts. In agricultural areas, TOC and EC (Electrical Conductivity) were the primary parameters driving changes in water quality during droughts. In forest areas, TOC, flow and cumulative precipitation were identified as the primary parameters, with relatively less impact compared to other regions.
