In this paper, cycle performance analysis of cascade refrigeration system using $NH_3-CO_2$(R717-R744) is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree and condensing and evaporating temperature in the ammonia(R717) high temperature cycle and the carbon dioxide low temperature cycle. The COP of cascade refrigeration system increases with the increasing superheating degree, but decreases with the increasing subcooling degree. The COP of cascade refrigeration system increases with the increasing condensing temperature, but decreases with the increasing evaporating temperature. Therefore, superheating and subcoolng degree, evaporating and condensing temperature of cascade refrigeration system using $NH_3-CO_2$ have an effect on the COP of this system. A multilinear regression analysis was employed in terms of subcooling, superheating, evaporating, condensing, and cascade heat exchanger temperature difference in order to develop mathematical expressions for maximum COP and an optimum evaporating temperature.
In this paper, an analysis on performance and exergy of R404A refrigeration system using R744 secondary refrigerant was performed numerically to optimize the design for the operating parameters. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree, internal heat exchanger and compression efficiency, evaporation and condensation temperature in the R404A refrigeration cycle and temperature difference of cascade heat exchanger. The main results are summarized as follows : The COP(coefficient of performance) of R404A refrigeration system increases with increasing evaporation temperature. The evaporation capacity of R744 as secondary refrigerant increases with the increase in evaporation pressure of R744 secondary refrigeration. And the enthalpy in the evaporator outlet of R744 increases with the increasing evaporation pressure of R744 secondary refrigeration. Therefore, it is important to analysis for the relationship between COP of R404A refrigeration system and refrigeration capacity of R744. As cascade evaporation temperature increase, the exergy loss of condenser and compressor using R404A is the largest among all components. Therefore, the exergy loss in the condenser and compressor using R404A must be decreased to enhance the COP of R404A refrigeration system with R744 secondary refrigerant.

The high-pressure natural refrigerant $CO_2$ is now being evaluated for use in the motor vehicle air-conditioning systems and for several types of unitary equipment. In this study thermodynamic properties of $CO_2$ is compared to those of R-22 and R-134a and the performance characteristics of $CO_2$ refrigeration cycle is analyzed. The results show that the optimum discharge pressure for the cycle performance exists. New design concept for the $CO_2$ refrigeration system should be developed due to the high-operating pressure of itself.
The oil trap in oil separator is one of the most important characteristics for normal operation of compressor. In this study, oil separation characteristics has been investigated for $CO_2$/PAG mixture using a gravity type of oil separator. The experimental study has been carried out in the range of oil concentration 0 to 5 weight-percent and the mixture temperature range of $0^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$. The results obtained indicate that oil separation ratio in oil separator is increased with an increase in the oil concentration and mixture temperature.

Recently, many researchers have studied the performance of the transcritical $CO_2$ refrigeration cycle in order to improve the system efficiency. In this study, the length of IHX in the $CO_2$ ejector cycle was varied so as to evaluate the performance improvement. As a result, compressor work and cooling capacity was increased by 3% and 5% as the length of internal heat exchanger was changed from 3 m to 15 m. The best COP was appeared at internal heat exchanger length of 12 m, and it was 3.01. Besides, the length of internal heat exchanger has a big effect to pressure lift ratio and entrainment ratio in the ejector $CO_2$ cycle and it may be changed with operating conditions and system specifications.

넷째로 암모니아 및 물과 같은 환경 친화적인 냉매들을 사용함으로서 오존층을 파괴하는 Chlorofluorocarbon(CFC) 및 Hydrochlorofluorocarbon(FCFC)계 냉매들을 대체할 수 있는 이점이 있다.
This study has been conducted to select the suitable refrigeration oil for a $CO_2$ refrigeration system. The oil return is one of the most important characteristics for refrigeration oils. PAG and POE oils are considered as a test fluids in this study. An evaporator model is employed to simulate the evaporator of a $CO_2$ refrigeration system. Oil return characteristics has been investigated for $CO_2$/PAG and $CO_2$/POE mixtures in the range of oil concentration 0 to 5 weight-percent and the mixture temperature range of $0^{\circ}C$ to $15^{\circ}C$. The results obtained indicate that oil return is decreased with an increase in the oil concentration and mixture temperature for both POE and PAG oils. It is also found that POE oil is seen to be superior than PAG oil in terms of oil return in an evaporator of a $CO_2$ refrigeration system.

Recently, many researchers have analyzed the performance of the transcritical $CO_2$ refrigeration cycle in order to identify opportunities to improve the system energy efficiency. The reduction of the expansion process losses is one of the key issues to improve the efficiency of the transcritical $CO_2$ refrigeration cycle. In this study, the analytical study on the performance characteristics of $CO_2$ cycle with an ejector carried out with a variation of outdoor temperature, gascooler inlet air velocity, evaporator inlet air velocity, and evaporator inlet air temperature. As a result, the system performance could be improved over 85% by using an ejector for various operating condition because of the reduction of compressor work. Moreover, the cooling capacity increased about 18% for variable outdoor condition. Therefore, the high performance of an ejector system could be maintained for wide operating conditions and system reliability could be improved compared to that of a basic system.
In this paper, cycle performance analysis of R744($CO_2$) two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include superheating degree, compressor efficiency, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature in the carbon dioxide two-stage refrigeration cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : The cooling capacity of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing superheating degree, compressor efficiency and gas cooling pressure, but decreases with the increasing mass flowrate ratio and evaporating temperature. The compression work of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing superheating degree, outlet temperature of gas cooler, gas cooling pressure and evaporating temperature, but decreases with the increasing compressor efficiency and mass flowrate ratio. The COP of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing compressor efficiency, but decreases with the increasing superheating degree, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio and evaporating temperature. Therefore, superheating degree, compressor efficiency, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature of R744($CO_2$) two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system have an effect on the cooling capacity, compressor work and COP of this system.
