Study on Cruelty in the Horror Comics : Focusing on of Ito Junji (공포만화의 잔혹성에 관한 연구 : 이토준지의 <토미에>를 중심으로)

  • There are the various genres such as current affairs, romance, academy, Wuxia, sports, psychology, learning, living and horror in cartoons. Among them, the horror comics are based on the story full of real or realistic subject or exaggerated imagination. The horror comic by Ito Junji have gone through the various printings for the classes of readers since it was introduced in this country. This study has begun from necessity of research on the effect of the horror comics genre on the readers by analysis. among Ito Junji's horror comics makes its own cruel horror image by giving a very unrealistic situation to the usual structure of horror genre. The cruel horror comics rouse significance of the analysis of the genre as one genre of the comics. has the 'catastrophe' effect for the readers who want to enjoy and deny it at the same time by stubbornly describing aspect of 'cruelty' of the horror things. This study aims to research 'cruelty of portrayal' of in terms of human psychology.

Motivations for Sharing Photos and Videos on YouTube and Flickr (YouTube와 Flickr에 사진과 비디오를 공유하는 이용자 동기 연구)

  • This study mainly investigates the motivations of YouTube and Flicker users for posting videos or images/photos on each service. The motivational framework with ten factors such as enjoyment, self-efficacy, learning, personal gain, altruism, empathy, social engagement, community interest, reputation and reciprocity were used to test the motivations. Those who are users of YouTube and Flickr were recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk to participate in online surveys. Findings show that learning and social engagement are the two most highly rated motivations. Altruism was rated relatively low, although it was strongly correlated with all other motivations. Personal gain was rated as the lowest by both users but Flickr users rated personal gain higher than YouTube users. Findings from this study could be applicable to specify user motivations for using the services and to upgrade the designs of the services in the future.

A Study on Usability of Interface Metaphors in the Information Retrieval Systems (검색시스템에서 인터페이스 은유모형의 유용성에 관한 연구)

  • In information system research. there has been a strong interest in developing the user-centered interface. Interface metaphors have been regarded as a user friendly device of the information retrieval systems. This study is to discover overall opinions about metaphors and to evaluate the usability of metaphors used in the homepages and retrieval interfaces of academic and public libraries. It is found that some metaphors cause users to confuse because they are similar each others or don\`t have unique meaning and because some have weak relationship between texts and images of metaphors. It is necessary to develop a metaphor model suitable for the a specific interface. This study proposes to develop functional metaphors which can help users easily understand how to operate and remember the procedures, and which are based in user\`s knowledge and experiences. The organizational metaphors of a virtual community also will be considered as a new type of retrieval interfaces.

Recognition of Car License Plates Using Difference Operator and ART2 Algorithm (차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 통합 인식)

  • In this paper, we proposed a new recognition method can be used in application systems using morphological features, difference operators and ART2 algorithm. At first, edges are extracted from an acquired car image by a camera using difference operators and the image of extracted edges is binarized by a block binarization method. In order to extract license plate area, noise areas are eliminated by applying morphological features of new and existing types of license plate to the 8-directional edge tracking algorithm in the binarized image. After the extraction of license plate area, mean binarization and mini-max binarization methods are applied to the extracted license plate area in order to eliminated noises by morphological features of individual elements in the license plate area, and then each character is extracted and combined by Labeling algorithm. The extracted and combined characters(letter and number symbols) are recognized after the learning by ART2 algorithm. In order to evaluate the extraction and recognition performances of the proposed method, 200 vehicle license plate images (100 for green type and 100 for white type) are used for experiment, and the experimental results show the proposed method is effective.

  • With the recent advancement of computer hardware and the contribution of open source libraries to facilitate access to artificial intelligence technology, the use of machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) technologies in various fields of exploration geophysics has increased. In addition, ML researchers have developed complex algorithms to improve the inference accuracy of various tasks such as image, video, voice, and natural language processing, and now they are expanding their interests into the field of automatic machine learning (AutoML). AutoML can be divided into three areas: feature engineering, architecture search, and hyperparameter search. Among them, this paper focuses on hyperparamter search with Bayesian optimization, and applies it to the problem of facies classification using seismic data and well logs. The effectiveness of the Bayesian optimization technique has been demonstrated using Vincent field data by comparing with the results of the random search technique.

  • In this paper, in order to help one to write contents for education in such a way to increase effectiveness, we implement SMIL editor, which helps anyone to author contents for education and multimedia text in an easy way based on multimeda language SMIL. Thanks to its interface which utilizes WYSIWYGT, this editor allows teachers or other users who do not know SMIL to write contents for education and multimedia text in an easy way and to check in a real time how a partially completed document work and to revise when it is not satisfactory. It also allows one to write contents with explanations to help learning because usable multimedia objects can be inserted. This editor helps the user to reduce his inconvenience that he has in memorizing SMIL tags and to reduce his time and offers in writing the documents.

  • A movie recommendation system is proposed to learn a preference model of a viewer by using multimodal features of a video content and their evoked implicit responses of the viewer in synchronized manner. In this system, facial expression, body posture, and physiological signals are measured to estimate the affective states of the viewer, in accordance with the stimuli consisting of low-level and affective features from video, audio, and text streams. Experimental results show that it is possible to predict arousal response, which is measured by electrodermal activity, of a viewer from auditory and text features in a video stimuli, for estimating interestingness on the video.

  • Recently, research about an electronic attendance-absence recording system has been actively carried out using smart devices. Using an electronic attendance-absence recording system, professors can check their students' attendance on a real-time basis and manage their attendance records. In this paper, we proposed a real-time electronic attendance-absence recording system using face detection and face recognition based on web application. It can solve the spatial, temporal, cost issues belong to electronic attendance-absence recording system using AIDC(Automatic Identification and Data Capture). A proposed system is running on web server and made by HTML5(Hyper Text Markup Language ver.5). So professor connect to server using mobile web browser on mobile device and real-time manage electronic attendance-absence recording with real-time send or receive image data. In addition, the proposed system has an advantage capable of installation and operation, regardless of the operating system because it operates based on the Python flask framework.

A Car License Plate Recognition Using Morphological Characteristic, Difference Operator and ART2 Algorithm (형태학적 특징 및 차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식)

  • 2006년 11월 이후 신 차량 번호판 등장 후, 신 차량 번호판과 구 차량 번호판이 혼합되어 있다. 이에 따라 속도위반, 신호위반 단속, 무인 주차관리 시스템, 범죄 및 도주 차량 검거, 고속도로 톨게이트에서 통행료 지불로 인한 교통 체증현상을 해소하기 위한 자동 요금 징수와 같은 다양한 경우에서 자동차 번호판의 특징에 맞는 인식 시스템이 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 형태학적 특징 및 차 연산과 ART2 알고리즘을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식 방법을 제안한다. 무인 카메라에서 획득된 차량 번호판 영상에서 차 연산을 이용하여 에지를 추출한 후에 블록 이진화를 한다. 이진화 된 차량 영상에서 신 구 차량 번호판의 형태학적 특성을 8방향 윤곽선 추적 알고리즘에 적용하여 잡음 영역을 제거하고, 차량의 번호판 영역을 추출한다 추출된 번호판 영역에 대하여 평균 이진화와 최대 최소 이진화를 적용하여 번호판의 개별 영역에 대한 형태학적 특성을 고려하여 잡음을 제거하고, Labeling 알고리즘을 적용하여 개별 문자를 추출한 후에 결합한다. 이렇게 분류된 개별 문자 및 숫자 코드를 ART2 알고리즘에 적용하여 학습 및 인식을 한다. 제안된 차량 번호판 추출 및 인식 방법의 성능을 평가하기 위해 녹색 번호판과 흰색 번호판 이미지 각각 100장을 대상으로 실험한 결과, 제시 된 차량 번호판 추출 및 인식 방법이 실험을 통해서 효율적인 것을 확인하였다.

  • The promotion of new product is one of most important object for exhibition design. The majority of conventional exhibition technique has been implemented through one-way communication. However, using digital technology, development of new exhibition techniques is necessary for promotion of high-tech products and consideration of the phases of the times. This paper propose the various possibilities of exhibition design model which is using camera sensing and video input/output. Interactivity is efficient method to communicate between viewers and displays. Viewers can be participate actively and exhibition goal will be accomplish through this. Using camera as visual senses, video input/output technique is offered not only introducing new product but also entertaining viewers through various ways of representation. Physical experience and learning process can be expected from the exhibition space and the object. The classification of the artist who are using video input/output technique and exhibition examples are described. The collaboration on a work with the new media artist and the exhibition design will be complement each other. It will be solved the problems of realization and corporation of idea and technology.
