PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF VAR10US BRANDS OF ELASTOMERIC CHAINS (수종의 합성 고무탄성재의 성질에 관한 연구)

  • Forces needed for orthodontic tooth movement are obtained from various appliances such as orthodontic wires or elastic rubber. Orthodontic elastic rubber is widely used clinically, but permanent deformation and force decay may occur from the environmental changes, time of clinical use and the extent of the stretch, making the Prediction of force being applied difficult. The Present study examined and compared the changes in residual force between three brands of elastomeric chains (Ormco Generation II Power Chains ; brand A, RMO : Energy-Chain ; brand B, Unitek : AlastiK ; brand C) under various environmental conditions, amount of initial force, types of elastomer and the rate of extension. The characteristic physical properies of the elastomeric chains were as follows. 1. In all three brands, the residual force ratio was largest when the chains were stored in air, with no difference between water and saliva. 2. In all three brands, after 24 hours, there was no statistical difference in residual force ratio according to the initial force level. 3. In Brand A and B, the presence of filament had no correlation with the residual force ratio. In Brand C force decay was more severe when the chain contained filament. 4. In each brand, rate of extension had no effect on residual force ratio. 5. Brand B showed relatively higher residual force ratio compared to other brands.

  • 본 연구는 1981-1991년 농업과학기술원 라이시미터에서 수집한 결과를 이용하여 집중강우시 경사지 밭토양의 물유출 특성을 구명하였다. $7\~9$월 집중강우시 토양 침투수나 지표 유거수는 농업지역에서 환경으로 물질이 이동하는 주요 경로이며 특히 경사지 밭토양에서 지표 유거수는 토양유실의 주원인 중 하나이기 때문에 이에 대한 이해는 매우 중요하다. 이를 위해 강우량, 지표 유거수량, 지하 침투수량 측정 자료 중 호우주의보가 발령되는 일강우량 80mm이상일 때를 대상으로 하여 토성과 경사도에 따른 강우량과 유거수, 침투수의 관계를 분석하였다. 강우량이 적을 때 강우에 대한 침투수와 유거수의 비율은 강우시 표토의 토양수분함량에 많은 영향을 받는다. 이는 표토의 토양수분함량에 따라 유출 또는 침투 발생 유효강우량이 결정되기 때문이다. 강우량이 적을 때의 유거수량과 침투수량을 판단하기 위해 범용토양유실예측공식(Universal soil loss equation, USLE)에서는 0.5 inch 즉, 12.5 mm 이상의 강우를 유출에 대한 유효강우로 가정하고 있으며 많은 모형에서 토양의 침투속도, 포장용수량, 강우시점의 토양수분함량의 함수로 유출 또는 침투 유효강우량을 산정하고 있다. 그러나 강우량이 클 때는 강우에 대한 침투수와 유거수에 비율에 토양수분함량이 미치는 영향이 비교적 적기 때문에 토양의 수분함량에 대한 고려없이 강우와 침투수, 유거수에 대한 관계를 평가하는 것이 가능하였다. 경사도 $10\%$, 경사장 15m, 피복작물 콩인 양토를 기준으로 할 때 강우량과 침투수의 관계는 $I_{10}(mm)=0.44R(mm)+5.8(r^2=0.55)$이었다. y절이 발생한 이유는 이전 강우에 의해 침투되고 있는 물이 있음을 함축하며 기울기 0.40은 강우의 $40\%$가 지하로 침투하였음을 의미한다. 침투수량은 토성별로 양토를 1.0으로 기준할 때 사양토가 1.12로 가장 컸고, 식양토 0.94, 식토 0.91로 평가되었다. 이는 토성간의 침투속도 및 투수속도의 경향이 반영된 것이다. 경사에 따라서는 경사도가 증가할수록 지수적으로 감소하였으며 $10\% 경사일 때를 기준으로 $I(mm)=I_{10}{\times}1.17{\times}e^{-0.0164s(\%)}$로 나타났다. 같은 조건에서 강우량과 유거수의 관계는 $Ro_{10}(mm)=5.32e^{0.11R(mm)}(r^2=0.69)$로 나타났다. 이는 토양의 투수특성에 따라 강우량 증가에 비례하여 점증하는 침투수와 구분되는 현상이었다. 경사와 토양이 같은 조건에서 나지의 경우 역시 $Ro_{B10}(mm)=20.3e^{0.08R(mm)(r^2=0.84)$로 지수적으로 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 유거수량은 토성별로 양토를 1.0으로 기준할 때 사양토가 0.86으로 가장 작았고, 식양토 1.09, 식토 1.15로 평가되어 침투수에 비해 토성별 차이가 크게 나타났다. 이는 토성이 세립질일 수록 유거수의 저항이 작기 때문으로 생각된다. 경사에 따라서는 경사도가 증가할수록 증가하였으며 $10\% 경사일 때를 기준으로 $Ro(mm)=Ro_{10}{\times}0.797{\times}e^{-0.021s(\%)}$로 나타났다.

Research and Development Trends of a Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV) (극초음속 활공 비행체(HGV)의 연구개발 동향)

  • The hypersonic glide vehicle ascends to a high altitude by a rocket booster, separates it from the booster, and glides at a hypersonic speed of Mach 5 or higher at an altitude of about 30~70 km, changing its direction in the atmosphere. Since it moves on an unpredictable flight path rather than a parabolic trajectory, it is difficult to intercept with current missile defense systems. The U.S. conducted HTV-2 and AHW flight tests in the early 2010s to confirm the possibility of hypersonic gliding flights, and recently it has been developing hypersonic glide vehicle systems such as LRHW and ARRW. China has conducted several flight tests of the DF-ZF (WU-14) glide vehicle since 2014 and has been operating it with DF-17 missiles. Russia has conducted hypersonic glide vehicle research since the former Soviet Union, but it has repeatedly failed, and recently it has been successfully tested with the Avangard (Yu-71) glide vehicle mounted on the SS-19 ICBM. In this paper, the characteristics, flight test cases, and development trends of hypersonic glide vehicles developed or currently being developed in the United States, China, Russia, Japan, India, and Europe are reviewed and summarized.

Development of Dynamic Passenger-Trip Assignment Model of Urban Railway Using Seoul-Incheon-Gyeonggi's Transportation Card (대중교통카드기반 수도권 도시철도 통행수요배정모형)

  • With approximately 20 million transportation card data entries of the metropolitan districts being generated per day, application of the data to management and policy interventions is becoming an issue of interest. The research herein attempts a model of the possibility of dynamic demand change predictions and its purpose is thereby to construct a Dynamic Passengers Trip Assignment Model. The model and algorithm created are targeted at city rail lines operated by seven different transport facilities with the exclusion of travel by bus, as passenger movements by this mode can be minutely disaggregated through card tagging. The model created has been constructed in continuous time as is fitting to the big data characteristic of transport card data, while passenger path choice behavior is effectively represented using a perception parameter as a function of increasing number of transfers. Running the model on 800 pairs of metropolitan city rail data has proven its capability in determining dynamic demand at any moment in time, in line with the typical advantages expected of a continuous time-based model. Comparison against data measured by the eye of existing rail operating facilities to assess changes in congestion intensity shows that the model closely approximates the values and trends of the existing data with high levels of confidence. Future research efforts should be directed toward continued examination into construction of an integrated bus-city rail system model.

Estimation of source signal and channel response using ray-based blind deconvolution technique for Doppler-shifted underwater channel (음선 기반 블라인드 디컨볼루션 기법을 이용한 수중 도플러 편이 채널에서의 송신 신호 및 채널 응답 추정)

  • This paper suggests an estimation method of the source signal and the channel impulse response (CIR) using ray-based blind deconvolution (RBD) in the underwater acoustic channel environment where Doppler effect exists by the relative motion between source and receiver. It is difficult to estimate the CIR on Doppler effect by the matched filter with a highly Doppler-sensitive waveform such as the m-sequence signal because Doppler shift can severely degrade the correlation between the received signal corrupted by Doppler effect and the original source signal. In this study, the Doppler-shifted source-signal's phase is estimated using the RBD, and the received signal is compensated by it to obtain the Doppler-corrected CIR. It is verified that using the matched filter with the received signal from the experimental data fails to estimate the CIR while the obtained CIR by the suggested method has the similarity to the propagation path of the ray model. Also, the results show that the reconstructed source signal using the RBD has the better Doppler shift compensation than the Doppler-shifted source signal derived from scattering function.

Evaluation of the Impact on Surrounding Groundwater of Waterway Tunnel Excavation and Cofferdam Construction (터널 굴착 및 가물막이 시공에 따른 주변 지하수계 유동분석)

  • This study is to quantitatively evaluate the impact on surrounding groundwater of waterway tunnel excavation and cofferdam construction in which A-dam and B-dam, so prediction of groundwater fluctuation and tunnel lining installation was studied. As a result, drawdown of groundwater level during tunnel excavation and cofferdam construction occurred about 3.58 m in the tunnel shaft. The initial condition of groundwater level recovered by up to 90 % was simulated after the completed the construction of the tunnel and lining installation. Groundwater inflow in the tunnel evaluated was analyzed to have exceeding water design criteria of the tunnel. The groundwater inflow is reduced to maximum $0.006m^3/min/km$ after lining installation done in the tunnel, so effect of lining installation was evaluated as 93 % or more. Drawdown of about 0.04~0.31 m occurs in the houses and temples analysis of groundwater system of the surrounding area from construction. Drawdown has occurred nearly by considering annual groundwater level fluctuation of National Groundwater Observation Network.

A Spatial Entropy based Decision Tree Method Considering Distribution of Spatial Data (공간 데이터의 분포를 고려한 공간 엔트로피 기반의 의사결정 트리 기법)

  • Decision trees are mainly used for the classification and prediction in data mining. The distribution of spatial data and relationships with their neighborhoods are very important when conducting classification for spatial data mining in the real world. Spatial decision trees in previous works have been designed for reflecting spatial data characteristic by rating Euclidean distance. But it only explains the distance of objects in spatial dimension so that it is hard to represent the distribution of spatial data and their relationships. This paper proposes a decision tree based on spatial entropy that represents the distribution of spatial data with the dispersion and dissimilarity. The dispersion presents the distribution of spatial objects within the belonged class. And dissimilarity indicates the distribution and its relationship with other classes. The rate of dispersion by dissimilarity presents that how related spatial distribution and classified data with non-spatial attributes we. Our experiment evaluates accuracy and building time of a decision tree as compared to previous methods. We achieve an improvement in performance by about 18%, 11%, respectively.

Assessment of Precipitation Characteristics and Synoptic Pattern Associated with Typhoon Affecting the South Korea (우리나라 내습태풍 유형에 따른 강우특성 및 종관기후학적 분석)

  • The recent unusual climate and extreme weather events have frequently given unexpected disaster and damages, facing difficulties in the management of water resources. In particular, climate change could result in intensified typhoons, and this would be the worst case scenario that can happen. The primary objective of this study is to identify the patterns of typhoon-induced precipitation and the associated synoptic pattern. This study focused on analyzing precipitation patterns over the South Korea using historic records as opposed to a specified season or duration, and further investigates the potential connection with heavy rainfall to synoptic patterns. In this study, we used the best track data provided by the Regional Specialized Meteorological Center of Japan for 40 years from 1973 to 2012. The patterns of the typhoon-induced precipitation were categorized into four groups according to a given typhoon track information, and then the associated synoptic climatology patterns were further investigated. The results demonstrate that the typhoon-induced precipitation patterns could be grouped and potentially simulated according to the identified synoptic patterns. Our future work will focus on developing a short-term forecasting model of typhoon-induced precipitation considering the identified climate patterns as inputs.

Modelling of Principal Stress Rotation in Ko Consolidated Clay (Ko-압밀점토지반속 주응력회전 현상의 모형화)

  • The isotropic single-hardening constitutive model has been applied to predict the behavior of soils during reorientation of principal stresses in the field. The predicted response by the model agrees well with the measured behavior for a series of torsion shear tests performed on hollow cylinder specimens of Ko consoildated clay along various stress -paths. This indicates that the soil behavior during reorientation of principal stresses can be predicted by using the model with application of simple informations given by isotropic compression tests and conventional consolidated-undxained triaxial compression tests. Isotropic elasto-plastic soil behavior has been served during primary loading from both the torsion shear tests and the predictions by the model. However, the directions of maj or principal strain increment given by the model have not coincided with the directions for tests during stress reversal, such as unloading and reloading, within isotropic yield surface for Ko consolidated stress. This indicates that kinematic hardening model instead of isotropic hardening model should be developed to predict the soil behavior during stress reversal. The experimental strain increment vectors in the work-space have been compared with the directions expected for associated and nonassociated flow rules.

A Study on Rhetorical Expression of Public Information Design -Focus on Information Design Case for Seoul Public Transportation- (공공정보디자인의 수사학적 표현에 관한 연구 - 서울시 대중교통 정보디자인 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • Although the volume and complexity of available information have increased, our ability to process such volume of complex information has not been met with corresponding development. Information designers have been given the responsibility to address such unbalanced progress by developing effective visual systems to deliver and communicate such information to the masses in a manner that is quick and easy to process and understand. This study originated in recognition of these issues. This study seeks to find a solution to these issues in rhetorics in order to proliferate visual communications in recognition of the increasing importance of information and visual communication. Rhetorics, a field of study with a long history of analyzing the delivery of communication, provides numerous possibilities for the re-establishment of importance placed on visual information communication. Included in this study are (i) a thorough analysis of the principals of expression and logic offered by rhetorics, as applicable to information design (ii) a proposal to the solution to the above-mentioned issues encompassing the rhetoric process and methods of expression of information design and (iii) the practical application of these design principals to social activities. In order to provide an example of the practical use of the rhetoric methodology Presented in this study, we applied the rhetoric methodology to the 'Information Design for Public Transportation of Seoul.' and developed a new map and a guidebook. The raw data necessary for the foregoing were obtained through the analysis of the information designs that are currently in use in connection with mass transportation in Seoul and the survey evaluation conducted among Seoul residents. We modulated the infrastructure of Seoul by using 48 TAZs, computed the routes that are most likely to be used, and proposed the predictable information analysis process. The design proposed on this study encompasses color coding and use of combined information, and application of style and sequential information analysis process.
