  • This study explores mime elements of court Hagmu(鶴舞) in literature and what is expressed in the practice of current Hagmu and examines what has been changed while others are kept intact. The content of Hagmu is that "attracted by lotus flowers in a pond, cranes dance around and peck at them, when the blossoms open wide with a girl [dancer] inside, upon which the surprised cranes fly away." The dance consists of 4 steps: the first step is for the entrance of cranes; in the second step the cranes dance moving across jidang(池塘) and the north; in the third step the cranes are curious about the lotus calyces, yeontong(蓮筒); and the cranes withdraw in the fourth step. The literature suggests that the dancing courses on the stage are limited to the east, the west, the south, and the north. The movement is limited to naeson (內旋) only in mujin(舞進) and mutoe(舞退). Furthermore, the gaze is only allowed toward the north and jidang. Motions are limited to naejog(內足), oego (外顧), and naego(內顧). However, the mime elements of current Hagmu are attributed to the effort of translating crane's life into a realistic story. It relates the life of cranes to that of human beings and implies love in it. Finally, the court Hagmu has entered the real world out of the literature, enriched with new elements. Under the transition from literature to practice the diversity of expression is added while the elements related with court codes such as courses, movements, directions, and motions are kept intact. These limitations, however, are coupled with the sensitive 'love' and the exposure of dancing instruments intrigues audience and creates dramatic effect. In conclusion the significance of mime elements in court Hagmu is in enhancing communication with audience.

  • The keyword of contemporary art in 21st is audience participation. London has emphasized the importance of audience participation since 2000. The National Theater of London is trying a new method, which is live performance to search new audiences. Also, they are trying to cross the boundaries between 'stage' and 'spectator'. This leads the other theaters to search new audiences and try new genre of performance. Therefore, they establish a new form of performance, which is that audience actively moves and find a new story in a theater. For example, "environmental theater" is the one. This theater escapes from the traditional stage, but it is based on "site-specific performance." Lots of new forms of theater have emerged. In this study, I focused on one of these new forms of theater, which is "Punchdrunk." "Punchdrunk" was founded by few students graduated from London University's Laban Center in 1999. They started at an empty stage in small school with only three audiences. 7 years after, it became one of major theaters in London. 10 years after, it showed their performances in the United state. Since then, their performances in New York have never been stopped. More strikingly, for last decades, this theater has been always full. In this study, I reasoned that the key of "Punchdrunk" success is audience participation. Therefore, I investigated the features of Punchdrunk theater and how they engage their audience in this performance. In this study, I focused on one of their performances, . Also, I categorized the audiences in three different ways: narrative visitor, walking visitor, and engaging visitor with mask. Three-part transition of Disney Theme Park from Louis Marin was applied to study "narrative visitor." For "walking visitor", Normadism from Gilles Deleuze was applied. For "engaging visitor with mask", Voyeurism was applied.

  • This paper proposes a humanoid robot performance system for performing in public places, such as an event, exhibition, or street performance. The system of modular structures can be moved easily, and can be played by a module or a combination of modules. The system developed with open source-based software and hardware is easy to adapt and improve. The robot performance control program for controlling robots, displays, audios, videos, and performance instruments was developed using the open source language, Processing. The performance instruments were developed using the open source hardware, Arduino. The contents of the robot performance were composed of scene-specific image, background audio, computer graphics, and videos. For their control and synchronization, the performance control program communicates with the humanoid robots and the performance instruments. In addition, performance accessories required to represent the performance concepts are produced by 3D modeling and printing. In a public place, the robot performance is performed with the theme of celebrating a Halloween day.

  • DMX512 protocol is a typical protocol which controls LED lighting system. It has a strong feature and can be used to a lot of lighting system. But LED control system with cable has a few problem because they have a lot of control cables. It is very difficult to set up the complex lighting. Furthermore if it is set up it is not easy to keep and recover the system from the out of order. So it is required Wireless Lighting Control System. This paper describes the proposal, design, and implementation of a novel method which can provide versatile light effects with the increased capability of the mobility and the number of universes for Wireless Lighting system. And then we implement experiment environment to control indoor lighting system controled by ZigBee and WLAN converter not having complicating control line. Data frames are transferred to DMX512 device by encapsulation and decapsulation to control color LED. In the same time give the method to solve the data bottleneck problem which can be comes out because of speed difference between Heterogeneous network and measure performance of control system.

  • The present study aims to develop measures to enhance user service at Chungnam Representative Library by establishing Chungnam Representative Library Operation Master Plan. To this end, I conducted a literature review, analysis of services of other representative libraries, and a survey. The study results suggested six measures for user service enhancement. The first measure is space-specific programs, such as children's materials room, general materials room, electronic materials room, auditorium, multipurpose room, outdoor stage, exhibition room, and book café. The second measure is the services specific user types, such as children, adolescents, adults, the disabled, and multicultural families. The third measure is information service specific for information type, such as print material service and digital material service. The fourth measure is the service for the Information-Poor including the expansion of mobile library service, the service for information users in special environment, and the development of mobile library rules. Fifth measure is information service for Chungcheongnam-do residents, such as Baekje Studies specialized service that incorporates local characteristics, specialized information service for Chungcheong Studies and local materials, and information service for administrative and policy materials. • The purpose of the Follies that were constructed for the Gwangju-Biennale were for urban regeneration, to activate the empty old-town areas, and to strengthen the tradition and sense of place of the city. However, the ten Follies constructed around the wall of the old castle reveal many problems including that of leaving Follies alone instead of actively using them, damage to shop-keepers nearby, and pedestrian inconvenience, which is different from the original purposes. This study is meant to help understand the source of the negative phenomena, and to offer plans that will be conductive to the role of urban regeneration through activating the Follies and the spaces around them. As results of the investigation, there was no context giving uniformity among the various Follies. Also, the study showed that the insufficience of designers' understanding of the circumference near the Follies and lack of a consensus between the citizens and designers in the process of making the Follies. The crucial solution for solving these problems, and bringing to life the original purpose of creating the Follies was derived as applying "human activity" to the Follies. This study suggested 'street performance' as an effective device for application to human activity. While a Folly has no fixed function, the development of space program categories based on the applied characteristics of each Folly, and the simulation thereof showed effective potential for attracting people and activating those stagnated spaces. Recently, Gwangju city depicted the second Follies in applications such as reading roon, toilet, and movable food cart, which have clear purpose and different characteristics from the first ones. However, the first Follies will not be moved or demolished. As they are located around the National Asia Culture Center, some of them are supposed to be used to view the center. Consequently, a counterplan for the continuous and efficient use of those Follies is needed. Gwangju has a plan for the installation of 100 Follies throughout the city and it is expected that this study will be a meaningful guide line for improved Follies in the future.
