Conversion Effect to Cotinine from Nicotine by Fucoidan (후코이단에 의한 니코틴의 코티닌 전환 효과)

  • This study aims to find the correlation the low-molecule fucoidan for cancer prevention with an accelerated formation of cotinine. In the presence of fucoidan, a nicotine to cotinine coversion was studied in established assay, direct mixture method and Hep-G2 cell line method. Fucoidan of $1{\mu}g/mL$ showed the potential effect for converting nicotine to cotinine in the direct mixture method compared to control. Increase of conversion rate at the treatment of fucoidan is exhibited as 15 times compared to control. In Hep-G2 cell treatment, fucoidan showed the potential activity for converting nicotine to cotinine as 6 times compared to control. Therefore, fucoidan was shown to be effective in the conversion of nicotine into cotinine even though it is not higher content of polyphenol and flavonoid than its of green tea extract.

Depolymerization of Fucoidan by Contact Glow Discharge Electrolysis(CGDE) (접촉 글로우 방전 전기분해(CGDE)에 의한 후코이단의 저분자화)

  • Contact glow discharge electrolysis(CGDE) is an unconventional electrolysis where plasma is sustained by D.C. glow discharge between an electrode and the surface of electrolyte surrounding it at high voltage. In this study, the behavior of CGDE in NaCl solution and the depolymerization of fucoidan by CGDE were investigated. After onset of CGDE, increase of voltage enhanced Glow discharge which resulted in low current density and low temperature in NaCl electrolyte. From the variation of molecular weight of fucoidan with the reaction time, it was demonstrated that the degradation of fucoidan followed a first-order rate law. Molecular weight of fucoidan treated with CGDE was about 40 times lower compared to initial fucoidan without content decrease of sulfate and fucos.

Experimental Study on Reduction of Emissions for Marine Diesel Engines with a Double Post Injection (선박용 디젤엔진에서 이단지연분사에 따른 배기 배출물 저감에 관한 실험 연구)

  • Marine Environment Protection Committee of the International Maritime Organization has decided to reinforce the NOx emission standards for ships passing an ECA(Emission Control Area) with Tier III standards from January 1, 2016. In this study, real-time measurements of the exhaust gas, cylinder pressure and fuel consumption were conducted at each load of a T/S Hanbada main engine of Korea Maritime and Ocean University, which is controlled by single injection and double post injection for reducing NOx emissions. The results showed that the quantity of CO2 and NOx increased in proportion to the engine load, whereas the CO concentration was inversely proportional to the engine load. In addition, double post injection decreased 10 % of P-max and reduced 25~30 % of the NOx emissions compared to single injection, whereas there was a trade-off relation, such as increase 3~5 % of SFOC (Specific Fuel Oil Consumption).

  • When Binomial data are obtained, logit and logit mixed models are commonly used for small area estimation. Those models are known to have good statistical properties through the use of unit level information; however, data should be obtained as area level in order to use area level information such as spatial correlation or auto-correlation. In this research, we suggested a new small area estimator obtained through the combination of unit level information with area level information.

  • The analysis of variance for randomized block design or two way classification data is well known. In this paper, particularly, we considered two stage nested design in which the levels of one factor is not identical for different levels of another factor. We investigate the structural properties of two stage nested design and the properties of error sum of squares for random effect model. For the application of two way nested design, we consider two-period crossover design which is used commonly for the equivalence test to bio-similar product. The confidence interval estimation of the difference of two population means in the crossover design is discussed based on statistical package SPSS.

  • 단문 분할은 한 문장에 중심어인 용언이 복수개인 경우 용언을 중심으로 문장을 나누는 방법이다. 기존의 방법은 정형화된 문장의 경우 효율적인 결과를 얻을 수 있으나 구문적으로 복잡한 문장인 경우는 한계를 보였다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 한계를 극복하기 위해 구문 정보의 단문 분할이 아닌 의미 정보를 활용하여 복잡한 문장을 효율적으로 단문으로 분할하는 방법을 제안한다. 정형화된 문장의 경우와 달리 일상적인 문장은 문장의 구조적 애매성이나 조사의 생략 등이 빈번하므로 의미 수준에서의 단문 분할이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 의미 영역에서 단문 분할의 할 경우 기존의 방법들의 애매성을 해소할 수 있다는 점을 보인다. 이를 위해, 먼저 하위범주화 사전과 시소러스의 의미 정보를 이용하여 용언과 보어 성분간의 의존구조를 1차적으로 작성하고 이후 구문적인 정보와 기타 문법적인 지식을 사용하여 기타 성분을 의존구조에 점진적으로 포함시켜가는 이단계 단문 분할 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안된 이단계 단문 분할 방법의 유용성을 보이기 위해 ETRI-KONAN의 말뭉치 중 20,000문장을 반 자동적인 방법으로 술어와 보어 성분간의 의존구조를 태깅한 후 본 논문에서 제안한 방법과 비교하는 실험을 수행한다.

Numerical Study on the Effect of Diesel Injection Parameters on Combustion and Emission Characteristics in RCCI Engine (RCCI 엔진의 디젤 분사 파라미터에 따른 연소 및 배출가스 특성에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • Low-temperature combustion (LTC) strategies, such as HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition), PCCI (Premixed Charge Compression Ignition), and RCCI (Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition), have been developed to effectively reduce NOx and PM while increasing the thermal efficiency of diesel engines. Through numerical analysis, this study examined the effects of the injection timing and two-stage injection ratio of diesel fuel, a highly reactive fuel, on the performance and exhaust gas of RCCI engines using gasoline as the low reactive fuel and diesel as the highly reactive fuel. In the case of two-stage injection, combustion slows down if the first injection timing is too advanced. The combustion temperature decreases, resulting in lower combustion performance and an increase in HC and CO. The injection timing of approximately -60°ATDC is considered the optimal injection timing considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and maximum pressure rise rate. When the second injection timing was changed during the two-stage injection, considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and the maximum pressure increase rate, it was judged to be optimal around -30°ATDC. In the case of two-stage injection, the optimal result was obtained when the first injection amount was set to approximately 60%. Finally, a two-stage injection rather than a single injection was considered more effective on the combustion performance and exhaust gas.

Enhancement of Membrane Durability in PEMFC by Fucoidan and Tannic Acid (후코이단과 탄닌산에 의한 PEMFC 고분자막의 내구성 향상)

  • In order to improve the durability of the PEMFC(Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells) polymer membrane, a radical scavenger and a support are used. In this study, the durability of membranes containing fucoidan extracted from seaweeds and tannic acid serving as a crosslinking agent is evaluated to improve chemical and physical durability. Physical durability is evaluated by measuring tensile strength, and chemical durability is measured by Fenton experiment. Membrane and electrode assembly (MEA) is prepared and mechanical and chemical durability are measured through accelerated durability evaluation in the cell. The tensile strength measurement showed that fucoidan and tannic acid can improve the mechanical durability of the membrane by improving the strain rate and yield strength. It is shown in Fenton experiment that fucoidan acts as a radical scavenger. As a result of the accelerated durability test in the unit cell, fucoidan improved both chemical and mechanical durability, increasing the accelerated durability evaluation time by 38.1% compared to the additive-free membrane. When tannic acid is added, the durability of the polymer membrane is improved by 13.9% by improving the mechanical durability.
