This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of the lower-body shape of middle-aged males with abdominal obesity by type and consider dimensional distribution to present a suit-pants size. The criteria were having a waist circumference greater than 90 cm and a waist-to-hip ratio(WHR) greater than 0.90; a total of 566 middle-aged males were surveyed. The findings revealed that, first, compared to standard lower-body types, the average body size of abdomenobese middle-aged males was significantly larger, especially in the horizontal area than in the vertical ares. Second, through a cluster analysis, a total of three categories of abdominal obesity were defined: small oval, large cylinder, and trapezoid type. The coverage rates of each type were 93.8%, 75.9%, and 93.0%, respectively. Finally, the suit-pants size system established according to lower-body types indicated the basic body size and reference body size were different for each type and also for the KS K 0050 male adult's garments size system. According to the definition of abdominal obesity, the types of abdominal obesity and the dimensions of each area are different, even if they belong to the same obesity group, suggesting that it is necessary to develop a pattern based on the analysis of obesity types.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the foot shape and size specification of male high school students. 3D modeling programs such as 'Artec Studio', 'CATIA', and 'Auto CAD' measured the 3D scan data of 361 male high school students provided by KATS. Through principal factor analysis, 10 factors were extracted, including foot length, medial-lateral ratio, and foot length ratio. As the result of the cluster and ANOVA with post-hoc test (Duncan method), the differences among types were clarified. Type 1 (24.7%) represented outward medial-lateral ratio (M-L ratio) with the lowest instep, ankle and little deformed first toe. Type 2 (41.8%) was characterized by the shortest, even M-L ratio, thin ankle and heel, the highest instep and ankle. Type 3 (33.5%) showed the longest, inward M-L ratio, thick ankle and heel, and deformed first toe. As the cross-tabulation of foot length and ball circumference, 17.2 percent was not covered by KS standard; in addition, the foot length was longer than the KS standard. The correlation analysis of key dimensions showed that foot length and ball circumference were highly correlated with other items; therefore, regression equations were derived to estimate other foot measurements using these two items as independent variables.
The purpose of this study is to research on the actual condition of production and selling in silver apparel market. For the questionnaire, 19 women's wear brands which were in higher ranking of sales in boutiques and madame-zone of department stores were selected. Pattern makers of each brand were questioned about 40 items for this research. The results of the questionnaire were as follows: 1) According to the result of the survey on the made-to-wear production of 19 ready-to-wear manufacturers, there was the gap was in ages between the target and the real consumer. Consumers of these brands were older and aged more broadly than their target ages. 2) Most of the consumers of silver-zone has thick waists, common heights, fat shapes. Custom-made clothes are ordered in many cases because of the big abdomen(50.0%) and H-shape(58.3%) of a somatotype. The body size variation of user population is needed for a good fit. 3) All brands(100%) of this research are using KS standards in the label of clothing, but they don't use these data in their production by reason of unawareness and distrust about these data. These inconsistency between the label and the real size of products may cause a confusion when consumers buy ready-to-wear. 4) Silver apparel manufacturers have need of anthropometry information and dummy(78.6%) suitable for their target consumers to increase their satisfaction about their apparel fit.
The purpose of this study was to point out the unification of the size of swimming headgear by measuring detailed measurement of head ferm and systematizes the head form. A total of 300 male and female Korean adults aged from 18 years old to 35 years old were measured through the direct measurement method. This study attempted to identify the head form of male and female adults using measurement data and the head form was classified through factor analysis and cluster analysis. (1) Based on the fact that this study especially focuses on the size of swimming headgear, factor analysis was performed far both direct measurements with hair and without hair. For the measurements with hair, seven factors were extracted. They were head thickness factor, head width factor, width of side head factor, height of back head factor, length of front head factor, circumference of front head factor, thickness of front head factor and head height factor. They explained the $70.95\%$ of the measurements. (2) The cluster analysis was executed to classify the somatotype of the korean head form on the basis of similarity. According to the cluster analysis result, the measurements with hair categorized types, 'Woman's long-hair type', 'Small type', 'Long and flat type', 'Large type'. (3) Head circumference B and Left tragion - Vertex - Right tragion circumference which are generally length and width in choosing swimming headgear size were selected as measurement items far size of swimming headgear. Direct measurements and sizes of four swimming headgear with different materials taking into account their elongation rate were also compared.
This study was conducted to provide basic information on developing highschool-uniform pants with more suitable fit and to suggest a sizing system for highschool girls' uniform pants that adequately reflects their body figures. To understand the features of high school girls' lower body type, the body measurement values of 833 girls from 16~18 years of age based on Size Korea(2010) were analyzed statistically. For the classification of lower body type for high school girls, a factor analysis and cluster analysis were conducted. The collected data were processed with the programs SPSS 18.0 for windows. The results in this study are follows: The lower body types for high school girls were divided into 3 groups. Body Type A is average stature but the biggest circumference, Type B is the biggest stature and the medium body type, Type C is the smallest stature and skeleton structure. KS size intervals were used for frequency distribution of height and waist for the lower body. Sizing system of the uniform company and frequency distribution of sizes were compared. Using the two-way distribution of highschool girls' waist circumference and hip circumference, sizing system considering body type distribution and high frequency distribution section of sizes was suggested. This study established new sizing system depending on lower body fixed as 26 number of sizes. The most suitable standard is fixed as 12 number of sizes ; 64-88, 64-91, 67-88, 67-91, 67-94, 70-91, 70-94, 70-97, 73-94, 73-97, 76-97, 76-100. The coverage is also calculated. And the coverage of new standard was 63.5%. The continuous study on the uniform pants sizing system of the obesity types is required.
We conducted a questionnaire survey of 481 Korean female college students and measured anthropometrically 2 girth of their bodies(bust, under bust girth) in order to understand the psychological needs about brassiere and the physical characteristics of consumers aged between 19 and 25(the 1924 generation). There were two major problems to be solved to improve the fit of brassiere in aspect of size. First, most brands for this age group aimed at product differentiation mainly on visual design not on brassiere size. According to the body measurements, the distribution of brassiere size had 6 sections '70AA, 70A, 70B, 75AA, 75A and 75B cups' showing a rate of 63.8% but most brands for this age group were producing '75A, 80A, 85A, 75B, 80B and 85B cups' showing a rate of 24.7%. Second, most subjects of this survey didn't know their own breast size and the sizing system of brassiere which are necessary in order to select the proper brassiere size. And most subjects were wearing a bigger size brassiere than their own body size even though one was in the range of '75A, 80A, 85A, 75B, 80B and 85B'. It might be possible that the dimensions of brassiere products in the market and the sizes indicated on the labels do not correspond. For increasing the consumer satisfaction it is necessary to adjust the production rate of brassiere sizes and to develop ergonomic brassiere products with proper dimensions and shapes for each brassiere size.
This study provides size information on current imported medical compression stockings in Korea. A total 20 brands from 6 countries imported and sold in the Korean on-off line markets were selected for this study and the sizing system of medical compression stockings was researched. The results of this study were as follows: there were size differences among different USA brands according to product type or compression class of medical compression stockings. To establish the sizing system for medical stockings of the German brands, the basic body measurements standard was set as cA, cY, cB, cB, cC, cD, cE, cF, cG, cH, cT, lD, lG, and lT. Italian brands developed the sizing system for medical compression stockings by compression class. In the Swiss brands, size types were sub-divided as 'Normal', 'Plus', 'Short', and 'Long'. The sizing 1 were confined within very narrow limits. There were differences of the basic body measurements between Taiwan brands. The results of the comparison of the size range of the imported brands with Size Korea (KATS, 2010) by two-way size distribution shows that the sizing systems of the imported brands were unsuitable for Koreans. To enhance the suitability of the sizing system for medical compression stockings, a new sizing system for Korean adult males and females needs to be established.
The aim of this study is to help out-size consumers purchase the ready-made clothes and improve clothing fitness by classifying the lower bodies of abdomen-obese adult males and by setting up some size system according to each size interval of obesity types. The including criteria for subjects in this study was over 25 kg/$m^2$ of the BMI, over 90 cm of waist, and over 0.85 of WHR, and a total of 538 adult males satisfying them were enrolled. Results are as follows; 1st, the higher the age bracket was, the more increase in each age bracket's lower-degree obesity rate there was along with the more decrease in moderate-degree, while the higher the age bracket was, the more increasing tendency toward each age bracket's abdominal obesity there was. 2nd, 3 clusters were categorized by cluster analysis, into abdominal obesity, high-degree-type, trapezoid-type and cylinder-type. And 3rd, as a consequence of size system establishment according to lower-body types, the basic body sizes and reference body sizes were different according to types even in commonly-appeared size names at sections of respective types. The research findings above suggests that it is necessary to figure out the obesity types according to waist and hip sizes representing basic sizes and to design the patterns in consideration of the characteristics of obese body shapes when lower-half body clothes are designed among obesity groups. And it may be used as a basic data to decide the desirable output of production according to respective body types.
People have recently became interested in eco-friendly cycling that attracted further attention as a sport activity. The number of high school cyclists has increased due to the popularity of cycling; however, high school cyclists have trouble choosing cycling suits because there is no professional cycling suit for high school cyclists in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a professional cycling suit for high school cyclists because sportswear for athletes is an important means to improve performance. This study suggests a standard sizing system for high school student athletes' cycle tights. The subjects were 111 high school cyclists. The 3 clusters were categorized by cluster analysis, and the sizing system was classified according to three lower body types. The size intervals of waist girth, hip girth and height were 5cm, respectively. The most frequent sizes were 75-100-175 in figure type 1, 70-90-170 and 75-95-170 in figure type 2, 70-90-175 and 70-90-180 in figure type 3. The sizing system, which had frequencies more than 3.6%, was classified into 9 cases, 8 cases, and 5 cases, respectively by lower body types. The results will contribute to the development of athletic performance cycle wear for high school cyclists.
This study researched the sizing system of dress form for apparel manufacturing in the domestic market. It aims to be used as basic data for the development of a dress form that could be used by manufacturers of senior men's clothing. Research focused on the sizes presented on the homepages of 17 dress form manufacturers in the USA, France, Japan, and Korea. Body measurement was made for senior men in their 50's over men (n=134). Six items were measured by the 'Standard body measurement of Size Korea'. The type of dress form in the domestic market can be classified into half-body type (upper body type and lower body type), torso, and whole-body type; in addition, each type is divided into upper arm, arm, crotch, and thigh. Korean dress form manufacturers produced/sold diverse kinds (size 7-9) for women; however, they used large/small sizes or product sizes for men without defining sizes. The chest size (93-105cm) has not been standardized while the rates of waist circumference, hip circumference and shoulder length (in accordance with the chest size) were all different. Global dress form brands manufactured reflecting body dimensions by the state organization USA ASTM. Japan JIS. For this reason, most domestic clothing businesses depend on imported dress forms. Especially, there were no dress forms for senior men. With the growing market for seniors, it would be necessary to produce senior dress forms for clothing production that reflect the body shapes and sizes of seniors.
