For children with most outdoor activities, wearing appropriate shoes is important to their growth and health. The purpose of this study is to identify characteristics regarding children's feet and to provide beneficial information for an appropriate sizing system of children's shoes. The data of the study were 3D measurements of feet from school boys aged 7-12 of the 6th Anthropometry of Size Korea. This study revealed that the two factors related to the size and height of the feet represent the characteristics of children's feet, unlike adults. As a result of applying the data of this study to the current KS sizing system of the children's shoes, only the foot lengths were within the sizing system. Consequently, the current sizing system requires revisions and supplements to the foot-width and foot-circumference sections.
Most apparel products have national standards for sizing; however, for gloves, national sizing standards have not yet been established. This study aims to analyze children's hand dimensions and propose a size specification for children's gloves that shows children's hand-related size information. Among the 3D measurements of sixth Size Korea Project, the measurement data of 19 dimensions related to the hands of 1,057 boys and girls aged 7-13 years old were analyzed. The distribution and growth trend of hand measurements for boys and girls demonstrated considerable mean differences and distribution trends by gender and age as per hand dimensions, which leads to the conclusion that it is necessary to show these results in the children's glove design. Based on these results, the cross-distribution maps of children's hand length and hand circumference were drafted; furthermore, the distribution relationship with an adult hand size was identified. Based on the distribution of hand sizes, the distribution of adult hand sizes overlapped with children's hand sizes was verified, and children's glove size specifications were presented. The results can be used as useful data such as measures for setting the size range and sizing system for children's gloves.
This study proposed a revision of standard sizing system for infant clothing to provide exact information for consumers and manufacturers. The size designation was set up by compensating the defect of existing system. Basic body measurement and reference body measurement were analysed according to size designation. The ages of the infants ranged from 0 to 36 month in accordance with safety standard of KC Self-Regularity Safety Confirmation. The results are as follows: Size designation for infant clothing was based on height that was basic body measurement. Chest girth, waist girth, head girth, arm length, foot length and weight were also analysed according to age of the month. It was proposed that height could be written alone and height with age of month did together for size designation. Size intervals of basic and reference body measurements were fixed as follows: size intervals are 5 cm in height, 2 cm in chest girth, 2 cm in waist girth, 1 cm in head girth, 2 cm in arm length, 0.5 cm in foot length and 2 kg in weight. The distributions of height and chest girth showed normal distributions. As height was taller, chest girth was also bigger. But the distribution of waist girth didn't show remarkable change with age of month. The distributions of arm length and weight showed remarkable difference with growth in 0~9 months, but the amount of growth variation got less in 12~18 months.
This report is the second study to develop the standard tables of body measurements to be used for improving the fit of garments and patterns for women aged 60 and older. The purpose of this study is to suggest the new sizing system proper to the women aged 60 and older by classifying their somatotype and developing the standard tables of body measurements for each somatotype. The data are the anthropometric measurements of 329 women aged 60 and older measured in 2001 and the 1997 National Somatometry Survey data. The major contents of this study are as follows. The applicability of KS K 0051 and ISO 3637 sizing systems to the women aged 60 and older was investigated by analyzing the distribution of height and drop index the difference of hipgirth and bustgirth. In this result, we certified the two sizing systems were not so proper to elderly women and the new sizing system proper to them was required. So, we classified the somatotype of the women aged 60 and older to 3 groups, 135cm$\leq$H(height)<145cm, 145cm$\leq$H<155cm, 155cm$\leq$H<165cm by height and classified to 3 groups, -4cm$\leq$D(drop)<16cm, -4cm$\leq$D<4cm, -l6cm$\leq$D<-4cm by drop index, and we suggested more proper sizing system for women aged 60 and older by compounding height and drop groups. We also developed the standard tables of body measurements every bustgirth groups of 9 somatotypes. We expect the standard tables of body measurements to applicate to manufacture clothing for elderly women.
For the purpose of standardizing sizing systems for infants and children's clothing, the researchers surveyed 20 different apparel manufacturers in Korea. The apparel production sizing systems used in the industry were analysed. The researchers also compared standard apparel sizing systems developed for infants and children's clothing in Korea. ISO, Japan, and U.S.A. The followings are the results of this study. 1. As survey findings of companies's views about sizing systems, boys or girls sizing system needed to be developed for 3 years old and over. The plus sizes are needed to be developed and children 9 years old and over need the plus size. 2. The body size specification in most sizing systems collected shows that chest circumference was increased 2cm for every infants sizes, and 3cm for boys and girls'sizes, from size 100 to size 130. However, the chest and waist circumference measurements were increased 4 to 8cm for large sizes, from size 130 to size 170. 3. There are similarity and dissimilarity among the standard sizing systems of ISO, Japan(JIS), U.S.A(ASTM), and Korea(KS). The ASTM developed infants'garment sizes for the babies who are 24months old and under. The most national standards, however, developed infant apparel sizing system for the babies under 105cm tall or 4 years old. 4. The range of body measurements covered by boys/girls sizing system were different by the nation. The U.S. system (ASTM) is for boys and girls who are taller than 120cm. The Japanese system(JIS) is for the children who are taller than 90cm.
The objective of this study is to develop a sizing system of fitness clothing that can properly accommodate various body sizes of Korean senior women. The sizing system of upper and lower fitness clothing was developed in the present study by selection of key variables, identification of size category candidates, and determination of an optimal sizing system. First, key anthropometric dimensions (stature and bust circumference for upper clothing and stature; waist circumference for lower clothing) were identified by factor analysis on the direct body measurements (n = 272) and 3D whole-body scan data (n = 271) of Korean senior women in Size Korea. Second, sizing system candidates based on the key dimensions of upper and lower clothing were explored using a grid method and an optimization method. Lastly, among the sizing system candidates, optimal sizing systems of upper and lower clothing were selected in terms of accommodation rate. Five size categories (short/small, short/medium, tall/small, tall/medium, and tall/large) were selected as the optimal sizing systems of upper and lower clothing with 89% and 78% of accommodation rate, respectively, for the Korean senior women. The anthropometric characteristics of the representative humans of the optimal size categories would be of use in the design of fitness compressive wear for the better fit and effectiveness of exercise and health of Korean senior women.
This study helps out-size consumers purchase tops and improve the fitness of unde-weight women in their 20s-30s and by the establishment of a size system. The criteria for subjects in this study were those under 18.5($kg/m^2$) of the BMI; subsequently, a total of 233 females were enrolled. The results were: First, the nominal size for female adult formal dress suggested by the KS standard is suggested in 20 sections. The sections for underweight women are 7, (34 women who accounted for 14.59% out of 233 in total). The cover efficiency was 2.08% (which was very low). Second, tests showed that the average difference between the reference part body size of 7 sections for underweight women in the normal size section of bust cir.- hip cir.- height, and KS standard, waist cir. among reference sizes was rather small in the case of a nominal size for long height. Therefore, there is a significant difference with size in the KS standard and a sizing system proven improper for underweight woman. Third, the basic body sizes and reference body sizes were different due to the size system establishment according to measurements of underweight subjects. The research findings suggest that it is necessary to understand underweight types according to bust girth and hip girth sizes that represent basic sizes as well as to design patterns that consider the underweight body shape characteristics when women's tops are designed.
The aim of this study is to develop clothing size system according to each size interval for obese girls aged 10~12 by classifying the upper bodies. The criteria for subjects in this study were girls who had over 1.46 of the R$\ddot{o}$hrer Index. A total of 229 schoolgirls who met these criteria were enrolled. Results are as follows; 1st, 5 factors were extracted by factor analysis and 3 clusters were categorized by cluster analysis, cylinder-type, inverted triangle-type and inverted trapezoid-type. And 2nd, as a consequence of size system establishment, the basic body sizes and reference body sizes were different according to types even in commonly-appeared size names at sections of respective types. The research findings above suggest that it is necessary to figure out the obesity types according to height and bust girth sizes representing basic sizes and to design the patterns in consideration of the characteristics of obese body shapes. And it may be used as a basic data to decide the desirable output of production according to respective body types.
The purpose of the study was to develop a size chart for elderly women over 60s. In order to investigate the differences in sine and figure, we measured 28 measurements of the 400 samples in Seoul in 1996. The selected measurements were what required to draft a tailored jacket patterns. At the beginning of the study, we surveyed about the difficulties and complaints on clothing of elderly in general with the samples of customers and suppliers for larger sizes. They preferred a jacket when they go out, and most frequently experienced difficulty was not to be able to find a decent clothing of suitable design and fitting size.'chat is why we concentrated the study on the measurements required for jackets. We analyzed the data as follows. 1. As Korean apparel industry use K.S. sizing system, we decided to use the same measurement to categorize the samples, bust and height. 2. We found out the frequency in the sixte chart and suggests the production sixte for over 60s. 3. We suggested some of the distinct figure related characteristics for better fitting.
This study is to increase the efficiency for the suitability of clothing measurement and the production utility factors by setting up the measurement system with middle-aged men's physical characteristics. For this purpose this study measured the body sizes of middle-aged men and analyzed basic sizing items such as drop, height, and bust according to the ISO and KS systems and classified these sizes based on body shapes and heights. As a result, an internationally-compatible measuring system is presented in this study. The most common body shapes are portly (Drop 6) and regular (Drop 12) types and these two types form $74.7\%$. The height of 164cm$(31.2\%)$ and 170cm$(38.2\%)$ cover $69.4\%$; and the most general sizes of busts are 92, 96 and 100 and these sizes occupy $74.7\%$. In consideration of the ranges of height and bust, the general sizes (7 regular types and 9 portly types) are selected to present the standardized measurements; the mark for the top is height-bust-waist and the mark for the bottom is stature-waist-hip.
