This study investigated consumers' multi-channel behavior for fashion product purchases and compared perceived risks by channel type. A survey involving male and female college students was conducted in the Daegu and Gyungbuk area in December 2013. A total of 400 responses were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square analysis, independent sample t-test, paired t-test, factor analysis, and reliability analysis. An internet shopping mall was the most frequently chosen retailer type for fashion product purchases and information searches. In addition, respondents also preferred independent branded stores, department stores, and non-branded stores. The number of retailer types for clothing item purchases ranged from 1 to 6 and the average was 3.06. The number of retailer types was significantly higher in women groups according to gender variables. Perceived risk had the highest evaluation score for internet shopping malls. Department stores were recognized as a reliable retailer type. The construct of perceived risk was shown as similar in off-line stores such as department stores, independent branded stores, and non-branded stores. Instead, the construct was differentiated from the case of internet shopping malls. Some insightful suggestions were suggested for future research and industrial marketing plans based on the results.
Price acceptability has become an important issue in the current fashion market. This study explored diverse factors that affect price acceptability (level of acceptable price and range of acceptable price). Stimuli photos of fashion products (i.e., bag, shoes, and jacket) were developed and used for online experiments with 3,000 female consumers. Important results included factors that affected the price acceptability of fashion products were price-quality relation, price concern, and product attribute perception. The results showed that female consumers depended more on price-quality relations, more positively perceived product attributes, and were less sensitive to price; in addition, they tended to have a higher level of acceptable price as well as a wider range of acceptable price for fashion products. These results were consistent across all experiments with different fashion items (i.e., bag, shoes, and jacket). Based on the results, factors that influence the price acceptability were revealed. Marketing practitioners need to more actively consider implying advertising strategies that emphasize the advancement of product attributes such as quality for highpriced products.
In order to develop high value fashion culture products capable of reaching the global market, this study developed the original traditional clothing design of Northeast Asian countries according to a global perspective. This study applied the structural formality of traditional clothing to fashion cultural products. This study developed designs using Deel of Mongolia, Makap of China Korean Dang-ui / Dan-ryung, and Haori of Japan. The research methods are theoretically examined using literature on traditional clothing in Northeast Asia. First, it designed a shirt design using Adobe Illustrator CS6 and created a pattern with the Yuka program as well as applied CLO 5.0 (a 3D virtual dressing system from CLO Virtual Fashion Co.). A survey was also conducted on individual interest for the developed fashion cultural products. The design method obtained various design effects by applying the method of adding point detail parts of the clothes to the shirt that represented each country among their traditional clothes. This research can be used as basic data for the global fashion cultural products market that can contribute to maintaining the originality of each country in the global era, expanding tourism income to succeed and develop culture and tradition.
The objectives of this study were to investigate differences in shopping style and consumption value of apparel product type, and to establish the effects of consumption value on shopping style. A questionnaire was used to collect data from 263 women aged between 20 to 49 in Gwangju on their shopping style and consumption value according to formal and casual product type. Collected data were subjected to frequency analysis, factor analysis, ANOVA, t-test and multiple regression analysis using statistical program SPSS(version 17.0). Results showed that shopping style could be influenced by six factors: fashion-recreational, quality-brand, impulsive, confused, brand-loyal, and price conscious consumer. Clothing consumption value was influenced by five factors: emotional, functional, epistemic, social, and situational value. Shopping style and clothing consumption value were significantly different between a formal product purchaser and a casual product purchaser. Consumption value had a significant influence on shopping style of the formal product purchaser and also the casual product purchaser.
Personalized product recommendation service is receiving attention as a new marketing strategy while supporting consumer information search and purchasing decisions. This study attempted to verify the effect of self-reference on service use behavior through the dual path of cognitive attitude and emotional attachment. Using convenience sampling, an online survey was conducted with 324 women who were in their 20s and 30s. After collecting and compiling the survey data, the reliability and validity of variables constituting the conceptual research model were verified through confirmatory factor analysis using AMOS 22.0. Next, the significance of sequentially mediated pathways was verified using Process 3.5 Model 80. The results showed that self-referencing not only significantly affects service use intention by simply mediating cognitive attitudes but also sequentially mediates cognitive attitudes and additional information search. Furthermore, self-referencing was significant as an indirect path to service use intention by mediating additional information search. However, in the path mediated by emotional attachment, self-referencing was considered as a simple mediated path leading to service usage intention. These results indicate a dual path in the psychological mechanism, through cognitive and emotional evaluation, that prompts consumer behavioral responses to the personalized product information provided in the shopping process.
Consumers believe it is more profitable to buy products at a discount price than at a fixed price. However, consumers who miss an opportunity for a discount would experience regret; consequently, they may also forgo a purchase despite experiencing regret if a subsequent opportunity was no more attractive than the initial one. This phenomenon has been conceptualized as inaction inertia. In this study we investigate if consumers showed behavior of inaction inertia under the situation of fashion products purchase as well as if price and involvement had a moderating effect on product purchase. The following are the results of the research based on an empirical investigation. First, according to the results of influence of inaction inertia on purchase intention, respondents exposed to scenario of experiencing similar price discount in the past, both under high-price situations and low-price situations, made statistically fewer responses than those exposed to situations without such experience; therefore, effect of inaction inertia could be confirmed. Second, the moderating effect of product price on relationships between inaction inertia and purchase intention was not statistically significant.
This study tests the effect of recommended product presentation on consumers' usage intentions of a website, mediated by mental simulation. Mental simulation refers to perceptual experience, a more automatic form of mental imagery, initiated by exposure to the representations of objects. This study expects that when compliments of clothes (coordination items) are vertically presented online, consumers are likely to feel as if they wear the outfits due to the activation of mental simulation. The survey was conducted on 147 women in an age group between 20 and 40 years in a panel of an online survey firm. Data are analyzed using exploratory factor analysis and bootstrapping analysis by SPSS 20.0. The results show that when compliments (vs. substitutes) of clothes are presented, participants perceive a greater mental simulation. When compliments of clothes are vertically presented (vs. horizontally presented), mental simulation is also highly driven. In addition, mental simulation mediates the effects of online product presentation on consumers' usage intentions of a website. The findings of this study contribute to marketing strategies of online retailers in terms of how product recommendation can be offered to consumers with more psychological benefits.
This study used text mining to extract 2,842 keywords from 7,397 product names and organized them into categories in order to analyze the characteristics of keywords appearing in the product names of jeans after 2020. The item category included denim and Chungbaji [청바지], and Ilja [일자], while the silhouette category included wide and bootcut. In addition, high-waist and banding comprised the making sector, and the materials category consisted of napping, spandex, and soft blue. Denim surpassed the others in frequency, co-occurrence frequency, and centrality, and co-appeared with various other keywords. Also, the co-appearance of item and silhouette was prominent, and there were many keyword combinations that showed characteristics related to (a) high waist; (b) hemline detail; (c) rubber band; and (d) partial tearing. Furthermore, idiom expressions such as 'slim fit' and 'back tearing', which were not highlighted in the co-occurrence frequency, were additionally confirmed through correlation. Therefore, the product name analysis effectively identified the detailed characteristics of the silhouette and the making of jeans preferred by consumers.
Korea's original traditional costume designs have a great potential to be re-imagined from a global perspective and developed into high-value-added fashion culture products that can enter the international market. This study applied the structural features of traditional clothing to the design of fashion cultural products. This study developed designs using Beja, Sagyusam, Aekjuem-po, Danlyeong, Cheolrik, Jang-jegori of Korea. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to conduct a literature survey of traditional Korean clothing. We designed shirts using Adobe Illustrator and created a pattern with the Yuka program. This design was applied to a three dimensional virtual dressing system called CLO. A survey of individual interest in developed fashion cultural products was also conducted. The shirt designs were obtained by applying the details and structural characteristics of traditional Korean clothing. Among the six shirt designs, when asked which design would be suitable for wearing, gifting, or uniform, the shirts with the design of Danlyeong, Beja, and Sagyusam were generally highly preferred. This study can be used as basic data for the global market for fashion cultural products, and can contribute to the inheritance and development of culture and tradition by maintaining Korea's uniqueness in the modern global era and increasing tourism revenue.
The success of apparel goods mainly depends on the purchase behavior of end use consumers. The decision making processes of apparel merchandise are very complicated according to the many information cues available to the consumers. The country-of-origin is one of the extrinsic cues to affect the consumers 'decision. To study the effect of country -of-origin, the Polo style knit shirts were chosen as stimuli to the male and the female subjects (total 527) aged from 18 to 35. The identical nine shirts (3 countries$\times$3 levels of price) were carefully manipulated for the treatments. The three countries labelled are Italy as industrialized country, China as less developed one, and Korea. In addition to the country-of -origin, the prices of the shirts were exposed to the respondents. The price levels were 14,000 won for the low, 39,000 won for the moderate, and 64,000 won for the high price level. The findings were as follows: 1) As price was increased, the perceived value and purchase intention were decresed. Price was not statistically significant to perceived quality, but it was significant to perceived value and willingness to buy. 2) The merchandise of "Made in Italy" was evaluated higher than those of "Made in Korea" and "Made in China" The country-of-origin had statistically significant influences on the perceived quality, perceived value and also willingness to buy. 3) The interaction between the two factors, country-of-origin and price, was not observed.n and price, was not observed.
