A Study on the Effect of Attitude toward the Advertising according to Clothing Involvement - About Expression of the Jeans Advertising - (의복관여에 따른 광고에 대한 태도 효과에 관한 연구 -청바지 광고의 표현 형식을 중심으로-)

  • This research is designed to study the sales promotion strategy and advertising program which can provide the effective materials to the clothing industry. The purposes of this study are as follows. First, After college students are classified according to clothing involvement level, the relations between clothing involvement groups sand demographic variables, such as, sex, residence, pocket money, and clothing cost are understood. Second, attitude toward the expression of awertising according to clothing involvement is analyzed. Third, attitudes toward the expression of advertising were analyzed according to demo- graphic variables. Subjects were 474 students of universtiy in Seoul. This study was conducted by means of a questionnaire survey and random sampling method was used. In order to test the attitude toward advertising, the questionnaire was made through pre test and validity test. Study results were as follows. First, Subjects were divided into groups ccording to the clothing involvement level, and it was proved that sex, residence, pocket money, and clothing cost were related. Second, there was significance in attitude toward the expression of advertising according to clothing involvement level. Third, sex, residence, pocket money, clothing cost, reasonable level of cost were relatively connectd with attitude according to the expression of the jeans advertising.

Cultural Characteristics and Product Appeals Reflected on Fashion Ads (패션상품의 광고에 나타난 문화적 특성과 소구유형)

  • This research was to see if the fashion product ads are standardized or differentiated, and to find what were the determinants if any differentiation existed. The purpose of this study was to identify cultural characteristics significant on marketing fashion produce. In addition, the relative importance of product appeals between rational and emotional in the fashion ads was examined. Hofstede's(l991) three cultural characteristics dimensions such as individualism-collectivism, power distance, masculinity-femininity were used. Content analysis was applied in the study. Magazine ads of apparel, cosmetics and accessories were collected from France, Japan, Korea and the US in 1999-2000. Cultural characteristics of the fashion ads were evaluated and compared in terms of country, product type and product involvement. Also ten consumption appeals were examined for county and product type. ANOVA, Duncan test and $X^2$ test were applied to analyze data. The results were shown as follows: First, all the cultural characteristics such as individualism-collectivism, power distance, and femininity-masculinity were different among countries. Second, two product appeals were significantly different among countries. Hedonic appeals were dominant fur France and the US while those were not for Korea and Japan. Third, product involvement level had significant impact on power distance characteristic and product appeals. Ads of high involvement fashion goods showed larger power distance and more emotional appeals. In conclusion, global fashion ads should be differentiated in terms of some cultural characteristics and product appeals.

Differences in Attitude -Based on Advertising Model and Consumer Product Involvement- (제품관여도, 광고모델에 따른 소비자 태도차이 연구)

  • This study investigates the differences in advertisement attitude, brand attitude, and purchase intention based on advertising model and consumer product involvement. A total of 100 respondents in high involvement and 100 respondents in low involvement categories were exposed to the advertisements of a cosmetic brand using 4 different model types: celebrity endorser, expertise endorser, ordinary person as an endorser, and no endorser. The experiment was planned as $2{\times}4$ types including high/low involvement and 4 different model types (25 respondents each). After looking at an advertisement for 1 minute, respondents were asked to answer a survey measuring advertisement attitude, brand attitude, and purchase intension. The results of this study showed that 6 hypotheses were supported and there was a significant difference between the high involvement and low involvement group depending on the advertising models used as well as the advertisement that influence advertisement attitude, brand attitude, and purchase intension. High involvement consumers showed the most favorable advertisement attitude on an advertisement with an expertise endorser, but low involvement consumers showed the most favorable advertisement attitude on an advertisement with a celebrity endorser. High involvement consumers showed the most favorable brand attitude on an advertisement with an expertise endorser whereas low involvement consumers showed the most favorable brand attitude on an advertisement with a celebrity endorser. High involvement consumers showed the highest purchase intention on an advertisement with an expertise endorser whereas low involvement consumers showed no difference in purchase intention depending on advertisement models. This study shows that marketers should differentiate advertising strategies based on consumer involvement.

The Effect of Indirect Advertisement to Consumers' Clothing Purchase Behavior -Focusing on Clothing Sponsorship of Television Drama- (의류제품의 우회광고가 소비자의 구매행동에 미치는 영향 -TV드라마 의상협찬을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study was to define 'sponsorship' as a kind of advertising tool, and to describe its effects on consumer brand attitude and actual purchase behavior. From previous research results, clothing sponsorship was defined as 'indirect advertisement', which has common ad traits as well as the uncommon ad traits, such as indirectness, emotional affinity, and symbolism. Results from empirical research using 1,227 data collected in Seoul and Kyounggi Areas were as follows ; (1) Television drama clothing sponsorship was proved to have effects on brand image, emotional & rational brand attitudes, decision making process, and actual purchase behavior. (2) Each of drama clothing sponsorship factors, such as 'drama', 'role', and 'actress', had different effects on brand memory and attitudes. (3) Consumer decision making process initiated by drama clothing sponsorship followed two different processes, which were called 'rational' and 'heuristic'. The rational process followed every steps of EKB model, which explained consumer's rational shopping, but heuristic model was closer to emotional and impulsive shopping.

Differences between Fashion Opinion Leaders and Followers in the Characteristics oriented New Young Generation and the Types of Fashion Advertising Involvement (신세대 특성의 지향과 의류광고 관여 유형에 대한 유행의사선도자와 추종자 집단간 차이)

  • The purposes of this study was to identify the differences between fashion opinion leaders and followers in the characteristics oriented New Young Generation and the types of fashion advertising involvement. The data were collected via a questionnaire from 431 college students(female=218 male=213) living in Seoul, Korea and analyzed by factor analysis and t-test. The results of this study were as follows: First, eight factors of the characteristics oriented New Young Generation were identified: Fashion, individuality, preference of caffe with affective mood, expression of emotion, indivisualism, preference of tastes oriented Western Europe, activity of pan club and chatting by personal computer. The significant differences between fashion opinion leaders and followers in fashion, individuality, preferences of the caffe with affetive mood, and expression of emotion were found in the data collected from female. There were significant differences between fashion opinion leaders and followers in fashion, individuality in the data collected from male. Second, three factors of fashion involvement advertising were identified: The hedonic involvement, social involvement, utilitarian involvement. The significant differences between fashion opinion leaders and followers in the hedonic involvement, social involvement, utilitarian involvement and the levels of involvement were found in the case of female's data. There were significant differences between fashion opinion leaders and followers in the hedonic involvement, social involvement and levels of involvement except for utilitarian involvement in the case of male's data.
