  • This study has a purpose of analyzing the difference of care giver's subjective awareness of self-efficacy and job satisfaction according to the types of welfare facilities, before studying the structural relationship between the management variables about workers at the welfare facilities for improving the quality of elderly medical welfare service. As a result of empirical analysis, there was no awareness difference of care givers according to the types of the elderly medical welfare facilities, but in general it was emphasized that the care givers' satisfaction with self-efficacy and job satisfaction was very essential in providing the elderly medical service. Therefore, this study has significance that it provided the theoretical fundament for efficient management method about the workers of the elderly medical welfare facilities.

  • The complexity of constructing medical institutions is higher than that of general buildings, and many change orders in the design and defect repairs in the construction phase are required due to strict government regulations. The priority control of constructions and impact factors of medical institutions were analyzed in this study, and difficulties in the control in the design and construction phase were identified. First, the priority management factors that were identified were as follows: architecture, facilities, and electricity. Second, 1) priority management in constructions and factors resulting in change orders and 2) priority management in constructions involving defect repair were analyzed. Third, the importance recognized by the construction managers were analyzed. The priority management in constructions and factors that were recognized by the construction manager were deducted as having low importance, although there were many change orders and defects. The work of finishing, wall building, joining, office automation and communication function, and lighting were analyzed in the design phase, and waste, the office automation and communication function, ceilings, contamination control, and plumbing were analyzed in the construction phase. The results showed that there will be a decrease in change orders and defects if the concentration of the manager was elevated and priorities were managed.

  • Purpose: Senior long-term care facilities are vulnerable to a cluster infection because of frequent physical contact, large group dining, communal living, and room sharing. This study aims to provide architectural improvement plans for a quarantine system in the facilities. Methods: Actual quarantine action data, guidelines from governments and institutes, in-depth interviews with facility staff are analyzed. Results: To prevent a cluster infection in the senior facilities, it is necessary to provide an architectural plan focusing on increasing the number of single rooms and isolation rooms, providing isolation rooms for staff, separation of a soiled room from a clean room, planing an entry vestibule and a visitor's room. Implications: It is important to analyze the existing condition of facilities that had been going through cohort isolation and provide the architectural solution to strengthen infection control.

  • It is very important to justify the reasonable role of healthcare facilities in the law in order to provide considerable medical services to the patient. Defining the right role of healthcare facilities makes it possible to build adequate Health Care Delivery System which might be helpful for the patient. However, the information of healthcare facilities in Korean law is so unclear that people are able to hardly understand what sort of proper medical service is for them. Furthermore, there is not enough regulation to differentiate each type of hospitals in the law. The result of this study is summarized into three points. Firstly, the current medical law does not reflect differences of function which each medical facility has. Secondly, the method of classification of healthcare facilities in the law disagrees with the Health Care Delivery System. Finally, there is no information on the type of sickbed in the law. Therefore, this study intend to analyze cause of problems which the law contains in order to be used for the fundamental resource for the healthcare facility planning.

  • Healthcare facilities design in Korea actually has begun from the late 1960s and early 70s and accomplished unprecedented growth qualitatively and quantitatively. In the 1970s and the 80s, domestic healthcare design was greatly influenced by the Japanese. In the 1990s, under the competitive healthcare-market environment, great concerns were dominated to american healthcare facilities than the Japanese which have comparatively monotonous architectural forms. In the meantime, domestic healthcare architecture firms have continuously learned about design know-hows of the US, Japan and eve European countries. Now I would like to evaluate the they are stepping onto in level that can equally compete with the advanced foreign architectural design companies. This study, investigating and consolidating architects' ideas and contents which experienced in design processes of real projects in current healthcare field, is purposed to find characteristics in design work of healthcare facilities and share the experiences. Method of research executed questionnaires to 22 special designers who design each 20 healthcare facilities. Questionnaire attained form July to October, 2008. Hereafter, it is going to present adjusting design process for healthcare facilities by analyzing various debris that is made in the process with design results that is made through design process.
