A Study on The Optimization of Pre-treatment for the Brine Wastewater from the Epoxy-resin Process by the Coagulation and Sedimentation Reactions (에폭시수지 생산 공정에서 발생되는 brine 폐수의 전처리를 위한 응집 및 침전 반응의 최적화 연구)

  • Epoxy resins are produced by the dehydro condensated reaction with ECH (Epichlorohydrin) and BPA(Bisphenol-A) as raw reactants under sodium hydroxide(NaOH) as a catalyst, and from this reaction, salted water named of brine, which contains ECH derivatives in condition of emulsion as likely as glycidol and polymer resins, is produced as an undesired side product. This brine water is alkaline wastewater and causes process fouling problems by plugging and chemically depositing polymer particles on the surface of inner wall of reactors and pipes, and decreases the biodegradable efficiency in the wastewater process. In this study, the optimization of coagulation and sediment reactions, using inorganic and organic polymer coagulants, were performed to remove the causes occurring the process fouling phenomena. And also, based on this study, the methodologies applicable to the commercial processes including economical analysis were presented.

  • 유사 입자의 크기는 유사의 특성 및 그에 따른 거동 변화에 중요한 영향을 미친다. Stokes 침강 속도 모형에서 유사의 침강 속도에 가장 많은 영향을 주는 인자는 유사의 크기인 것 또한 확인된다. 유사 입자의 크기가 약 $60{\mu}m$보다 작은 유사들은 알갱이 사이의 점착력을 무시할 수 없다. 이로 인해 유사들은 응집 현상을 겪으며 입자 본래의 크기보다 크기가 큰 플럭을 형성하는 점착성 유사로 분류된다. 응집 현상이란, 흐름 내 점착성을 띠는 일차입자(Primary Particle)가 응집과 파괴를 반복하며 플럭을 형성하는 현상을 뜻한다. 입자 간의 충돌을 통해 응집이 진행되며 난류 전단으로 인해 형성된 플럭의 파괴가 발생한다. 많은 연구에서 점착성 유사의 충돌을 야기하는 가장 지배적인 원리는 난류라 알려져 있다. 이러한 응집 현상으로 인하여 플럭의 크기와 밀도는 지속적으로 변화를 겪으며 비점착성 유사와 다른 특징들을 보인다. 흐름에 존재하는 유사의 이동은 이송-확산 방정식을 통해 표현된다. 이송-확산 방정식은 시간 변화에 따른 농도의 변화를 입자의 침강과 난류 및 유사 자체의 특징에 의한 확산으로 해석한다. 침강속도로 대변되는 이송과 달리, 확산은 난류흐름 내에서 유사가 확산되는 정도를 정량화하기 위한 인자가 요구된다. 난류에 의한 유사의 확산은 유사 자체 특성에 따른 물질 확산에 비하여 매우 큰 값을 가지며, 이를 확산 계수로 개념화 한다. 확산계수는 와점성계수와 Schmidt 수(${\sigma}_c$)의 비로 정의된다. ${\sigma}_c$는 난류의 점성과 난류로 인한 부유과정에 의해 유사가 확산되는 정도를 나타낸다. 이에 따라 ${\sigma}_c$의 변화가 유사의 부유 및 침강거동에 많은 영향을 미칠 것이라 판단되나, 국내외에서 수행된 연구 동향에서는 ${\sigma}_c$를 0.5부터 1.0 사이의 상수를 적용하여 수행되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 ${\sigma}_c$의 크기에 따라 달라지는 유사의 부유 및 침강 변화에 의한 총 부유량을 살펴보고자 한다. 유사의 점착성을 고려할 수 있는 1DV 수치 모형을 이용하여 비점착성 유사와 점착성 유사를 대상으로 수치연구를 수행하며, 유사의 크기 및 ${\sigma}_c$의 변화에 따른 총 부유량 경향을 살펴본다. 그 결과, 점착성 유사는 ${\sigma}_c$의 증가에 따라서 유사의 총 부유량이 증가하는 현상이 나타난 반면 비점착성 유사는 ${\sigma}_c$의 증가에 따라 유사의 총 부유량이 감소하는 경향이 나타났다. 그러나 크기가 아주 작은 비점착성 유사를 대상으로 수치 연구를 수행한 결과, ??에 따른 총 부유량의 경향은 유사의 점착성에서 기인하는 것이 아닌 입자의 크기로부터 야기되는 특성이라는 결론이 도출되었다.

Study on Formation of FePd Nano-dot Using Agglomeration of Fe/Au Bilayer (Fe/Au 이중층의 응집현상을 이용한 FePd 나노 점 형성에 관한 연구)

  • [ $L1_0$ ]phase FePd nano-dot structures were successfully fabricated on self-organized Fe/Au bilayers. With atomic force microscopy, it is determined that surface morphologies of initially flat Fe/Au bilayer films were agglomerated and transformed their shape into nano-dots structures with increasing annealing temperature. With this bilayer as a template, FePd multilayers were deposited at various temperatures, i.e. $300^{\circ}C$, $350^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, and $450^{\circ}C$. Surface morphologies of FePd superlattice had a near resemblance to self-organized bilayer. According to X-ray diffraction results, it is confirmed that $L1_0$ superlattice structures of FePd were obtained from samples which were annealed above $350^{\circ}C$. Results of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy depth-profile analysis showed that chemical composition is identical to deposition sequence. As a result, without additional etching processes, fabrication of chemically ordered FePd superlattice nano-dots was achieved.

Study on applicability of fractal theory to cohesive sediment in small rivers (프랙탈 이론의 소하천 점착성 유사 적용에 관한 연구)

  • Cohesive sediments form flocs through the flocculation process. The size and density of floc are variable whereas those of a fine sediment are always assumed to be constant. The settling velocity, one of main factors of sediment transport, is determined by size and density of particle. Therefore, the flocculation process plays an important role in transport of cohesive sediment. It is of great difficulty to directly measure the density of floc in the field due to technical limitation at present. It is a popular approach to estimate the density of floc by applying the fractal theory. The main assumption of fractal theory is the self-similarity. This study aims to examine the applicability of fractal theory to cohesive sediment in small rivers of Korea. Sampling sediment has been conducted in two different basins of Geum river and Yeongsan river. The results of settling experiments using commercial camera show that the sediment in Geum river basin follows the main concept of fractal theory whereas the sediment in Yeongsan river basin does not have a clear relationship between floc size and fractal dimension. It is known from this finding that the fractal theory is not easily applicable under the condition that the cohesive sediment includes the high content of organic matter.

Effect of Interaction between Category Coherence and Base Rate on Presumption of Reasons for Preference (범주 응집성과 기저율의 상호작용이 선호의 이유 추정에 미치는 효과)

  • Some progress has been made in the study of the category coherence effect, which states that the attributes of soldiers or nuns with similarities in dress and behavior, and easily distinguished from other categories, are likely to be generalized. However, few studies have examined the fundamental psychological mechanisms that underlie this category coherence effect, and this study aims to fill this gap. For this purpose, two experiments were conducted after selecting categories with high coherence (nuns, soldiers, and flight attendants) and those with low coherence (interpreters, wedding planners, and florists). In experiment 1, we observed that the members of a category were presumed to have certain reasons to prefer [property X] (presumption of reasons for preference), with this presumption becoming stronger when [property X] was observed repeatedly in high-coherence categories than in the case of low-coherence categories. Experiment 2 showed that for the high-coherence categories, the presumption of reasons for preference was stronger when [property X], rarely seen in everyday life (base rate of 30%), was observed, while the presumption of reasons for preference was weaker when [property Y] (base rate 70%), frequently seen in everyday life, was observed. In the low-coherence categories, the presumption of reasons for preference tended to be weak for both rare and frequent attributes. That is, there were significant effects of the two-way interaction between category coherence and base rate on the presumption of reasons for preference. This study has implications for psychological essentialism and stereotyping.

  • An electron microscopic study has been made of the effects of change of cell structure of Escherichia coli treated with several disinfectants. The alterations observed as follows: 1. Nucleoid, cytoplasm which contain ribosomes and cell wall appeared to be composed of a parallel triple. layered membrane can observed in control Escherichia coli. 2. The nuclear material was no longer demonstrable in its normal sites. The cytoplasm lost its granularity, became homogeneous and disruption of cell wall were observed by the treatment with 70% ethyl alcohol and 3% $H_2O_2$. 3. Aggregation of ribosomes and condensation of nuclear material were also observed by the treatment of 5% lysol solution and 1% dodecyl-diamino-ethyl-glycin-hydrochloride. 4. In autoclaved group, the each layer of cell wall was separated and destroyed in some sites where cytoplasm was extracted.

Simulation Study on the Effects of Heating Rate and Particle Size Distribution for the Formation of the Agglomerate During CWM Combustion (CWM 연료의 연소시 입자 가열속도와 입자 크기가 CWM 응집물 형성에 미치는 영향에 관한 전산모사 연구)

  • A theoretical model of particle agglomeration was developed to investigate the adhesive force between contiguous coal particles in CWM agglomerate. While heating bituminous coal to about $400^{\circ}C$ or above, the transient occurrence of plastic behavior of coal particles can be observed. The adhesive force in the process of agglomeration of coal particles was found to be proportional to the duration of plasticity of the particles. In the research, how the heating rate and the particle size distribution of CWM fuel influenced the formation of the agglomerate in CWM fuel at the heat-up stage was investigated by the model of particle agglomeration. Simulation program used to this experiment was RKG method and was programmed by Fortran. It was represented that by the model of particle agglomeration, the adhesive force in the process of the particle agglomeration in CWM fuel was inversely proportional to the heating rate but proportional to particle size.

한외여과(UF)막을 이용한 상수처리 공정의 확립 및 최적화

  • 기존의 정수처리 공정은 응집-침전-급속여과처리를 주로 사용하면서 생물 활성탄처리-오존처리 등을 거치는 공정으로 이루어져 왔다. 그러나 응집제의 투여시 최적 응집제량, 최적 응집제 투여위치, 교반시간, pH 조절 등 번거러운 test가 선행 되어야 하며 처리수에 남아있는 응집제에 의해 2차 오염을 일으켜 침전조의 부지 면적에 따른 대형화등을 초래할 단점이 있다. 따라서 최근에는 이러한 단점을 보완하고 장치의 간소함, 높은 효율의 유지에 따른 후처리 공정의 부하감소 및 운전 조건 인자등의 감소라는 경제적 효과를 기대할 수 있는 막분리공정이 도입되었다. 그러나 분리막 처리공정의 경우 원수에 다량 포함되어 있는 콜로이드 입자들에 의한 flux의 감소 및 fouling 현상으로 인한 막의 수명감소, 처리수량의 감소 및 최적 설계 및 운전 방법등의 새로운 공정에 대한 많은 자료의 확보가 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 기존의 정수처리 공정에 있어서 전처리 부분에 해당하는 응집-침전-급속여과처리 공정을 분리막 공정으로 대체 하였을 때 분리막의 재질 및 module의 차이에 따른 처리 능력을 비교하고 각 단위 공정들에 의한 flux 변화, 각 공정별 수질분석, 회복율, 회수율 등을 검토하여 최적 조건의 공정을 확립하여 후처리 공정의 효율을 극대화 하는데 있다.

Isolation of Bioflocculant-Producing Microorganism and Its Culture Characteristics (응집제 생산균주의 분리 및 배양특성)

  • Flocculant-producing microorganisms were isolated from soil samples using kaoline as the flocculating test material. One strain that had high flocculating activity among them was selected and identified as Arcuadendron sp. TS-49. The favorable medium for production of the flocculant was 3% glucose, 0.2% yeast extract, 0.1% $NH_4Cl$, 0.01% $MgSO_4$, and 0.05% $MnSO_4$ in 150ml of T.W. with initial pH 7.0.The optimum culture temperature and pH were $30^{\circ}C$ and pH 7.0, respectively. The flocculant activity was observed most highly after 4 to 5 days of cultivation at the optimum condition and decreased significantly with the lapse of cultivation time. The flocculant was produced constituently and seemed to be degraded for ressimilation during cultivation. The productivity achieved by this system was about ten-fold higher than that of scrrening mediuim. This bioflocculant flocculated all tested solids, including various microorganisms and organic/inorganic compounds. Several qualitative analyses of the bioflocculant showed that it was a kind of glycoprotein containing sugars and protein.
