Rheological Behaviors of Mesophase Pitches Prepared from Coal Tar Pitch as Carbon Fiber Precursor (탄소섬유 원재료로서 콜타르로부터 제조된 메조페이스 핏치의 유변학적 거동)

  • An experimental study for mesophase pitch prepared from coal tar pitch has been carried out to clarify the rheological behaviors in the molten state. The apparent viscosity, shear stress, shear rate, Qunoline insoluble(QI), and softening point(SP) change were investigated especially. The conditions to increase mesophase content during polymerization were heat treatment time of 5 hrs, catalyst concentration of 3% and reaction temperature of $420^{\circ}C$. Apparent viscosity change with increase in temperature of pitches was different according to the heat treatment conditions and apparent viscosity increased with increasing heat treatment temperature, heat treatment time, contents of mesophase, on the contrary, fluidity is decreased. Rheological behavior of molten mesophase pitches at about $270^{\circ}C$ showed Newtonian behavior below $375^{\circ}C$ and non-Newtonian behavior above $270^{\circ}C$, the flow behavior was analyzed with Casson model.

Effect of Heating Temperature on the Rheological Properties of Com Starch (열처리 온도가 옥수수 전분의 리올로지에 미치는 영향)

  • The influence of dry-heat treatment($130{\sim}220^{\circ}C$) on the gelatinization and rheological properties of corn starch(11.4% moisture) was examined. The enthalpy of gelatinization measured by differential scanning calorimetry decreased above $190^{\circ}C$. The viscosity of starch by alkali gelatinization increased as the heating temperature rised. All the values including peak viscosity on amylograms and shear stress, apparent viscosity, consistency index and yield stress of thermal-gelatinized starch dispersion showed decreasing tendencies with increasing of heating temperature from above $170^{\circ}C$ compared with those of raw starch. The apparent viscosity and yield stress of all the samples thermal-gelatinized at $90^{\circ}C$ were increased considerably with process of gelatinization time and especially their rapid increase at the early stage was observed in the $190^{\circ}C$ sample. But all the rheological parameters of $220^{\circ}C$ sample recorded very low values compared with those of the others.

  • 송전용량 증가를 위해 개발되어 최근 본격적으로 사용되고 있는 STACIR/AW 송전선은 송전용량의 증가에 따라 그 운전환경도 변화하여 연속사용온도의 경우, 기존 ACSR 전선의 90t에 비해 높은 $210^{\circ}C$로 규정 되어 있을 만큼 고온에서 운전되고 있다. 따라서 STACIR/AW 송전선은 이도설계와 그 운용에 있어서 운전 온도 상승에 따른 각별한 주의관리가 필요하다 실제 STACIR/AW송전선은 그 설계단계에서도 이와 같은 고온운전 환경을 고려하여 고온에서도 소정강도를 유지하는 내열 Al도체와 이도제어를 위한 낮은 열팽창 특성의 INVAR합금(Fe-35Ni계 합금)을 강선으로 하는 특화된 재료로 구성되어 있다. 그러나 이와 같은 재료 설계적 보완책에도 불구하고 실제 송전선은 전선의 자중, 철탑 간에 형성된 가설장력과 같은 다양한 응력이 고온환경에서 부하되는 복합 열화 상태에 노출되어 있고, 이것은 재료학적인 관점에서 크릴 변형 발생의 가능성을 높이고 있으나 이것에 대한 연구 또는 실험결과는 크게 미미한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 STACIR/AW $410mm^2$ 송전선과 그 구성소재를 대상으로 $200^{\circ}C$, $300^{\circ}C$에서 장시간 열화한 후, 구성소재의 탄성계수, 열팽창계수 및 STACIR/AW전선의 크림변형 거동을 조사하여 열화에 노출된 STACIR/AW 송전선의 이도변화 거동을 규명하고자 하였다.

Behavior of Fill Dam Subjected to Continuous Water Level Change and Overflow (지속적 수위변동 및 월류에 따른 저수지 제체의 거동 연구)

  • In this study, the behavior of fill dam with continuous water level change considering velocity changes via centrifugal model test was investigated. In addition, the collapse of fill dam due to the overflow was also experimentally simulated. The experimental results demonstrate that the pore water pressures and displacements vary in proportion to the water-level-change velocity, and the displacement increment is independent to the water-level-change velocity. Also, it is confirmed that the continuous water level change induces to the progress of fill-dam deformation due to displacement accumulation and the fill-dam stability dramatically degrades owing to the overflow. Hence, the real-time monitoring of pore water pressures and displacements of fill dam, and the control of water level in heavy rain through the countermeasure such as opening sluice gates are needed to ensure the stability of fill dam.

Effect of Various Gums on Flow Properties and Yield Stress of Korean Sweet Potato Starch (여러 종류의 검 첨가가 국내산 고구마전분의 유동특성 및 Vane 항복응력에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of seven commercial gums (xanthan gum, guar gum, pectin, gum arabic, gellan, locust bean gum, and sodium alginate) at different concentrations (0, 0.3, and 0.6%) on flow properties of sweet potato starch (SPS) pastes were investigated. Flow behavior characteristics were adequately described by power law flow model, and yield stress was also measured by vane method. SPS-gum mixtures (5% w/w) at $25^{\circ}C$ were found to have high shear-thinning flow behavior with yield stress, and their consistency index (K) and apparent viscosity ($\eta_{a,100}$) increased with elevated gum concentration, except for pectin and sodium alginate. Vane yield stress ($\sigma_o$) value of SPS-pectin mixture was lower when compared to other mixtures while that of SPS-gellan mixture was much higher. Most of the gums, except for pectin, gum arabic, and sodium alginate, showed a synergistic effect on the elastic properties of SPS-gum mixtures. In general, the flow properties of SPS-gum mixtures appeared to be strongly influenced by the addition of gum, and dependent on the type and concentration of gum.

  • $CO_2$ sequestration for alleviating global warming is a hot issue in the world. In this study, TOUGH2 and FLAC3D were combined for analyzing the hyro-mechanical coupling behaviors expected in $CO_2$ sequestration and applied it to Sleipner project carried out in Norway. In the analysis, the influence of pore pressure on in situ stress was considered and the influence of caprock permeability on hydro-mechanical behaviors was analyzed. In the condition of constant injection rate, pressure and saturation at the injection well, liquid and gas saturation in rock, major and minor stress variations with time and distance from the injection well, and horizontal and vertical displacements after injection could be investigated. The major principal stress was quickly increased in the early stage and then slowly decreased to a stable value, which was higher than the initial value. In contrast, the minor principal stress returned to initial value after some increase in the early stage. Surface upheaval was steadily increased and it was up to 15mm in 2 years after injection. When the caprock's permeability was changed from $3e-15m^2{\sim}3e-18m^2$, it was found that the injection well pressure and surface upheaval were inversely propotional to the permeability.

The Slow Strain Rate Dependence of Zircaloy-4 Cladding Tube in Iodine Atmosphere (I) (요드분위기에서 지르칼로이 피복재의 저변형율속도 의존성(I))

  • The effects of temperature and strain rate on the I-SCC behaviors of Zircaloy-4 were investigated by constant load test at 30$0^{\circ}C$ and constant elongation rate test at 300, 350 and 40$0^{\circ}C$ in 3.34mg $I_2$/㎤. The results showed that I-SCC susceptibility increased as the strain rate decreased or the temperature increased. The empirical relation between the stress and the time to failure at 30$0^{\circ}C$ was given by 1/ $t_{f}$∝exp (0.3$\sigma$/$\sigma$$_{UTS}$-31.5) When the I-SCC susceptibility was expressed by the ratio of fracture energy in iodine atmosphere to that in the inert atmosphere, severe I-SCC susceptibility was found near 7.6$\times$10$^{-6}$ sec at 30$0^{\circ}C$ and the maximum point of I-SCC susceptibility tended to shift to the higher strain rate with increasing the temperature. The quasi-cleavage fracture was observed in I-SCC fracture surface. From these results, it was certain that the film repture step was involved as an important process in the I-SCC mechanism of Zircaloy-4.4.

Cyclic Local Buckling Behavior of Steel Members with Web Opening (유공 강구조 부재의 반복 국부좌굴거동)

  • Many study have been performed to describe the elastic and inelastic behavior of H-shaped beams with web openings that generally concentrated on the monotonic loading condition and concentric web opening. The findings of the studies led Darwin to propose formulas for the design of beams with web openings considering local buckling. While the formulas are simple and useful in real situation, more studies arc needed on their cyclic loading condition. In this experimental study, 12 H-shaped beams with web openings under cyclic loading condition were investigated. The dimension criteria based on the formulas proposed by Darwin were examined. The suitability of existing design formulas and the effects of plastic hinges on beams with web openings and of local buckling around web openings on the beam strength under cyclic loading were also studied. This was done by observing their behavior with various dimensional openings, eccentric per cent, and stiffeners.

  • This paper intends to propose design information with the result or comparing the deformation capacity with different panel stiffness specimens and estimating the plastic deformation capacity, toughness and strength of welded joint connection according to the different scallop types. The test results of the beam to column unit structure are as follow: the non-scalloped and the low stiffness panel specimen have more desirable result values than the scalloped and the high stiffness one in plastic deformation. Comparing the scallop types shows very unlikely tendency as follows, second cracking occurs at the very edge of scallop in the scalloped specimen otherwise cracking occurs bond area of welded beam flange in the non-scalloped one.

  • 원자력, 화력발전소, 제철소 등의 다양한 임해 공업시설로부터 방출되는 냉각용 온배수는 연안일대 해수의 열균형을 파괴시켜 생태계의 보존 및 환경관리에 좋지 못한 영향을 야기케 된다. 이러한 영향은 해안 또는 만내의 수중온도를 전반적으로 높일뿐 아니라 가동중단시 갑자기 수온을 떨어뜨려 해양생물상에 피해를 줄수도 있다. 또한 온배수에 의하여 온도가 상승된 해수가 취수구를 통하여 재순환되어 냉각기능의 부진을 초래하게되면 발전효율 또는 기계가동율을 저하시키게 된다. 이러한 측면에서 온배수의 확산에 대한 정성, 정량적인 예측은 환경영향평가, 취.배수구 설계조건의 산정 등에 매우 중요한 문제라 하겠다. 본 연구는 정지수역으로 유입하는 3차원 정상류 표면온배수 해석모형의 개발로서 개발된 모형의 수치실험을 통하여 온배수 확산의 물리적 특성을 규명한다. 지배방정식에 나타나는 Reynolds 응력항($)과 온도유동 프럭스항($)의 해석에서 필요한 난류모델은 k-$\varepsilon$ 모형에 난류 평균자승 온도유동($) 및 그 감쇄방정식을 추가한 4-방정식 모델로서 구성하였다. 아울러 3차원 정상류 모형에서 야기되는 타원형 방정식을 포물형 방정식의 형태로 전환하여 효과적으로 해석할 수 있도록 모델의 특성을 정리하였다. 본 모델의 검증을 위하여 Lal 및 Rajaratnam(1977)의 물리적 실험값과 비교해본 결과 온배수 거동의 물리적현상이 잘 일치하였다. 또한 McGuirk 및 Rodi(1979)에 의해 개발된 2-방정식 k-$\varepsilon$ 난류모형의 해석결과에 대하여 비교분석을 실시하였다.
