We report the case of a 14-year-old girl, diagnosed with atypical thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA). The patient presented with persistent fever, nausea, and newly developed peripheral edema. Her laboratory findings indicated chronic anemia with no evidence of hemolysis, thrombocytopenia, or elevated serum creatinine level. A few days after hospitalization, acute renal failure and fever worsened, and proteinuria developed. On day 40 of hospitalization, she experienced a generalized tonic seizure for 5 min, accompanied by renal hypertension. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed posterior reversible leukoencephalopathy syndrome. After steroid pulse therapy, a renal biopsy was performed because of delayed recovery from thrombocytopenia. The biopsy findings showed features of thrombotic microangiopathic hemolysis with fibrinoid change restricted. Current diagnostic criteria for TMA have focused on thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and hemolytic uremic syndrome, and diagnosis is based on the clinical presentation and etiology, with the consequence that idiopathic and atypical forms of TMA can be overlooked. Developing effective tools to diagnose TMA, such as studying levels of ADAMTS13 or testing for abnormalities in the complement system, will be the first step to improving patient outcomes.
High performance polysulfone microfiltration membranes with a high were successfully prepared by vapor induced phase separation (VIPS) coupled with non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) process. Asymmetric Membranes were prepared with PSF/DMF/PVP/PEG/DMSO/water mixed solutions and water/IPA coagulant. PSF, DMF, PVP, PEG, DMSO, water was used as a membrane polymer, a solvent, a hydrophilic polymer additive, a polar protic liquid polymer, a polar aprotic nonsolvent, and a polar protic nonsolvent in the casting solution, respectively. The addition of polar aprotic nonsolvents, and polar protic nonsolvents is a convenient and effective method to control membrane structure. In order to control the morphology of polymeric membranes, the spontaneous emulsification induced by drawing water vapor into the exposed casting solution surface has been used. Control of the internal morphology of polymeric membranes by using mixed coagulation solution such as water and IPA is discussed in the present work. The pure water permeability, pore size distribution, surface hydrophilicity and membrane morphology were investigated. Due to the addition of DMSO to casting solution, the mean pore size increased almost $0.2{\mu}m$ and the water flux increased about 1000-1800 LMH.
Hollow fiber membranes were prepared via thermally-induced phase separation process followed by stretching process from isotactic polypropylene and soybean oil system. Various operating parameters were examined in terms of their effects on the structure variation and performances of the membrane, and were optimized. Melt viscosity of the melt sample had influence on the formation of the microfibrils, and addition of nucleating agent increased the nucleation density to enhance the interspherulitic pore formation by stretching. Annealing the membrane at its stretched state relaxed the stress induced by stretching and helped the membrane maintain the stretched structure without shrinking. Solid-liquid Phase separation is more prevalent when the nucleating agent was added, and coagulation bath temperature determined the nucleation density, which affected the pore formation by stretching. In the absence of nucleating agent, nucleation was not effective and liquid-liquid phase separation governed the structure formation, which showed the opposite trend to that of the case with nucleating agent.
Some quality characteristics of tofu prepared with cuttlefish ink were investigated to study the effects of various of coagulants. Each concentration of coagulant was determined as 0.2% of GDL, 0.3# of $MgCl_2$, 1%^ of $CaCl_2$, 1.5% of $CaSO_4$ and 0.6% D-gluconic acid calcium by pre-experiment. Also, the optimum concentration of added cuttlefish ink was chosen as 3%(diluted in twenty times). The yield of inky tofu prepared with GDL as coagulant was the highest. According to prepared with $MgCl_2$ was the highest. The result of microstructure was examined by SEM, the particles of inky tofu coagulated with GDL and D-gluconic acid calcium were small and uniformity. In overall acceptability of sensory properties, inky tofu coagulated with GDL was the highest in score. In the color of inky tofu, L value and a value were the highest coagulated with GDL, but that coagulated with $CaCl_2$ had the highest b value. In the texture properties of inky tofu, hardness, gumminess and brittleness were the highest coagulated with D-gluconic acid calcium. A positive correlation was observed between the pH of tofu whey and acidity. Sensory properties of roasted nutty flavor, hardness, cohesiveness and springiness were positively correlated with the acceptability.
In order to investigate the effects of gelling agent on rice anther culture, anthers of rice (Japonica cv Daecheongbyeo) were cultured on N$_{6}$ media supplemented with 0.8, 1.2 or 1.6% Junsei agar and 05, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 or 1.0% Gelrite (Phytagel, Sigma). On Junsei agar media, the frequency of callus induction was decreased in proportion to agar concentration. The frequency of callus induction was more increased as 67.6% and 54.8% in media containing 0.4 and 0.6% Gelrite than in agar media. The frequency of plant regeneration and spontaneous doubled-diploid was directly proportional to Junsei agar and Gelrite concentration. The number of green and spontaneous doubled diploid plant was highest on 0.6% Gelrite medium. In order to optimize the concentration of growth regulators for the callus induction medium containing 0.6% Gelrite, anthers were cultured on N$_{6}$ media supplemented with 2mg/L NAA, 2 mg/L 2,4-D, 1mg/L NAA and 1mg/L 2, 4-D, or 1mg/L NAA, 1mg/L 2,4-D and 0.5mg/L kinetin. The maximum frequency of callus induction and plant regeneration was obtained from the medium supplemented with 2 mg/L NAA and 0.6% Gelrite. In conclusion the induction of embryogenic callus, the frequency of plant regeneration and in vivo chromosome doubling was more effective in Gelrite media than in Junsei agar media.dia.
In order to investigate the utilization of the Omija (Schizandra chinensis Baillon) extract as a natural coagulant for manufacturing soybean curd, the quality characteristics of white (Baktae) and black (Seoritae) soybean curds, coagulated by the Omija extract or $MgCl_2$, were evaluated. Crude protein ($6.14{\pm}0.30$ and $6.25{\pm}0.18%$, respectively) and crude lipid ($10.86{\pm}1.74$ and $11.29{\pm}1.69%$, respectively) contents of white and black soybean curds coagulated using the Omija extract were higher than those coagulated using $MgCl_2$. Black soybean curds coagulated using the Omija extract showed higher L, a, and b values than those using $MgCl_2$. The most abundant amino acid in white and black soybean curds coagulated using the Omija extract was arginine (3.74 and 3.71 mg/100 g, dry basis, respectively). The amounts of Ca, K, Mg, and Na were the highest in both soybean curds prepared with the Omija extract. The sensory evaluation (color, flavor, taste, texture, and overall preference) showed that white and black soybean curds coagulated using the Omija extract were more preferred than those produced using $MgCl_2$. The results suggested that using the Omija extract as a natural coagulant agent could improve the quality and sensory characteristics of soybean curds.
Warfarin-induced skin necrosis is a rare complication caused by transient hypercoagulable state. This state is a result of rapid decline of the protein C activity relative to that of coagulation factor II, IX, and X during initiation of oral anticoagulant therapy. We experienced a case of warfarin-induced skin necrosis involving both breasts in a patient who underwent double valve replacement 1 month before. Warfarin was replaced to a low- molecular weight heparin and the necrotic breast lesion was healed spontaneously. Low-dose warfarin was restarted and gradually increased, after which a low molecular weight heparin discontinued..

We performed this study to develop antithrombotic agents from oriental medicine herb extracts. Polygonum cuspidatum has been traditionally used as an edible medical resources for the treatment of cancer, pyodermatitis, hepatitis, cystitis, and inflammation. However, the effects of Polygonum cuspidatum on thrombosis and platelet activation are not precisely understood. The antithrombotic and antiplatelet activities of Polygonum cuspidatum were investigated by assessing the effect of a 70% ethanol extract of Polygonum cuspidatum on blood coagulation, fibrinolysis, and platelet aggregation. Polygonum cuspidatum showed effective fibrinolytic activity at 10 mg/mL. Polygonum cuspidatum also inhibited adenosine diphosphate induced platelet aggregation. Furthermore, evaluation of anticoagulant activity showed that an extract of Polygonum cuspidatum prolonged coagulation time via activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). Our results show that Polygonum cuspidatum can be a potential candidate for antiplatelet activity as well as a fibrinolytic agent.
Several coagulants was investigated for their effects on shelf-life of packed Tofu. The titratable acidity, amino nitrogen content in Tofu and the optical density of Tofu suspension were increased as the spoilage developed during storage. The number of microorganisms was increased to 13 million cells per gram after 1 day of storage at $30^{\circ}C$ in the Tofu prepared with $MgSO_{4}\;and\;CaCl_{2}$. But, the Tofu prepared from acetic acid was found to be more stable for storage. The quality of Tofu was maintained up to 12 days or 18 days at $30^{\circ}C\;or\;15^{\circ}C$, respectively. These results suggested that acetic acid was desirable as a coagulant of packed Tofu to extend its shelf life.
