A heuristic method treating a layered ocean bottom in a ray modeling is to use the plane wave reflection coefficient for multiple-layered structure, named an one-layer assumption in this paper. We examine the validity of one-layer assumption in the case of two-layered ocean bottom, and obtain a simple inequality condition depending on the sound speed ratio, the ratio of layer thickness to source-receiver range, and the grazing angle of first reflected ray. From this inequality condition, it is shown that an one-layer assumption can be applicable to ray propagation problems at mid frequencies. Finally, numerical experiments are performed in the ocean environment similar to the East Sea in Korea. Incoherent transmission loss is calculated by the geometrical beam model with the plane wave reflection coefficient for multiple-layered ocean bottom and compared with the result of SNUPE 2.0, which is a parabolic equation package developed in Seoul National University.

In real system application, the path planning and following system for the coordinated control of heterogeneous marine robots based on the underwater acoustic communication has the following problems: surface and underwater robots have different maneuvering properties, an underwater robot requires more effective operating, it has a limited communication range because of the transmission loss (TL) of acoustic wave, it has a communication error because of the Doppler distortion of acoustic wave, and further, it requires an easy design procedure in terms of its structures and parameters. To solve these problems, an intelligent path planning algorithm using the evolution strategy (ES) and the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based on system modeling, is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed algorithm, the path planning and following of an underwater robot is performed according to the maneuvering of a surface robot. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively solves the problems.
A time-series variation of temperature, salinity, and underwater sound speed was analyzed using an Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanography (ARGO) float which autonomously collects temperature and salinity for about 10month with 2 days cycle among 12 floats in the center of the Yellow Sea. As a result, the underwater sound channel appeared below the thermocline as the surface sound channel, which is dominant in the winter season, reduced in April. Besides, for a certain time in the spring season, the sound ray reflected the sea surface frequently due to the short-term temperature inversion effect. Based on the case of successful observation of ARGO float in the shallow water, using prolonged monitoring unmanned platform may contribute to predicting sound transmission loss if the temperature inversion and sound channel including background environment focusing are investigated in the center of the Yellow Sea.
In order to examine the possibility of horizontal simulations of acoustic waves on the environments of big water depth variations, this study introduces a 3-dimensional model based on the pababolic equation. The model gives approximated solutions by separating the cross- and non cross-terms in the equation. Assuming artificial bathymetry (25 km × 4 km) with a source frequency 75 Hz, the simulations give clear horizontal refractions on the transmission loss distributions. The degree of refractions shows non-linear increase along the propagating range and proportional increase with water depth along the cross range. Another simulations with the real bathymetry (25 km × 8 km) also give clear horizontal refractions. The horizontal distributions present little difference with the depth resolution variations of the same data source because the model gives interpolations over the depth data before simulations. Meanwhile, the horizontal distributions show big difference with those of different data sources.

Lately concerns about structure have been increased by advantages of floor impact noise, poilitical induction and changeability. Hence, Flat Plate Structure has been constructed increasingly. This study shows the comparison of the performance of sound insulation of Flat Plate Structure System and the existing Wall Structure. For this study, taking the same level organization of Daelim Architectural Environmental Research Center, I found the performance of sound insulation between the upper and lower floors about Wall Structure and Flat Plate Structure. Consequently, the performance of sound insulation between upper and lower floors of Flat Plate Structure was 3-5dB higher was approximately 3-5dB higher than one of Wall Structure. Especially, the performance of sound insulation on the upper floor was 1-3dB higher than on the lower floor. In addition, as the result of comparing radiation sound which radiates from the wall of lower floors with each structure system, Flat Plate Structure was about 4dB higher with Rw than Wall Structure. As we see totally, the performance of sound insulation of Flat Plate Structure is highter than one of the Wall Structure. It is 3-5dB higher and the main reason for this result depends on the existence of the wall which can radiate sound and nonexistence.

In this paper, a geometric similarity law is introduced to the performance test of a large-sized silencer used in ship engine or plant system. A test of scale-down model enable to yield the cost and time saving in developing large-sized silencer considerably. Two types of silencer, resonator and expansion chamber, were analyzed by a theoretical method and an acoustical FEM(finite element method) in order to obtain geometric similarity variables. A method is proposed to estimate the transmission loss of prototype model using the test results of scale-down model. Two actual large-sized silencer, which consist of resonator and expansion chamber, were analysed by an acoustical FE analysis. Consequently, the proposed method predicts effectively the performance of prototype silencers using those of scale-down models.

In this paper, the interface matrix of honeycomb composite panel has been derived by the governing equation of a honeycomb sandwich panel. The interface matrix of honeycomb panel is added to the previously developed transfer matrix method, thus analysis of the multi-layered insulation composite panel with honeycomb is accomplished. Furthermore, predictions of sound transmission loss(STL) for the ship's insulation panel with honeycomb and mineral wool are presented. The insulation performance of the honeycomb used for skin of the ship's insulation panel is better than that of 0.35 mm steel panel by 2dB, approximately. Although honeycomb panel has inefficient insulation performance beside steel panel, honeycomb panel achieve improvements in the performance of weight reduction. The surface density of the panel with honeycomb is rather than with steel by $5.2kg/m^2$. It is decrease in weight by 31.7 %.
Low-titrate audio coding enables a number of Internet and mobile multimedia streaming service more efficiently. For the help of next-generation mobile telephone technologies and digital audio/video compression algorithm, we can enjoy the real-time multimedia contents on our mobile devices (cellular phone, PDA notebook, etc). But the limited available bandwidth of mobile communication network prohibits transmitting high-qualify AV contents. In addition, most bandwidth is assigned to transmit video contents. In this paper, we design a novel and simple method for reproducing high frequency components. The spectrum of high frequency components, which are lost by down-sampling, are modeled by the energy rate with low frequency band in Bark scale, and these values are multiplexed with conventional coded bitstream. At the decoder side, the high frequency components are reconstructed by duplicating with low frequency band spectrum at a rate of decoded energy rates. As a result of segmental SNR and MOS test, we convinced that our proposed method enhances the subjective sound quality only 10%∼20% additional bits. In addition, this proposed method can apply all kinds of frequency domain audio compression algorithms, such as MPEG-1/2, AAC, AC-3, and etc.

In this study, we have analyzed the effects of the membrane layer and the bragg reflector layers on the resonance characteristics through comparing the characteristics of the membrane type FBAR (Film Bulk Acoustic Wave Resonator) and the one type bragg reflector layers with those of the ideal FBAR with top and bottom electrode contacting air by using equivalent circuit technique. It is assumed that ZnO is used for piezoelectric film, $SiO_2$ are used for membrane layer and low acoustic impedance layer, W are used for the high acoustic reflector layer and Al is used for the electrode. Each layer is considered to have a acoustic propagation loss. ABCD parameters are picked out and input impedance is calculated by converting 1-port equivalent circuit to simplified equivalent circuit that ABCD parameters are picked out possible. From the variation of resonance frequency due to the change of thickness of electrode layers, reflector layers and membrane layer it is confirmed that membrane layer and the reflector layer just under the electrode have the greatest effect on the variation of resonance frequency. From the variation of resonance properties, K and electrical Q with the number of layers, K is not much affected by the number of layers but electrical Q increases with the number of layers when the number of layers is less than seven. The electrical Q is saturated when the number of layers is large than six. The electrical Q is dependent of mechanical Q of reflector layers and membrane layer. Both ladder filter and SCF (Stacked Crystal Filters) show higher insertion loss and out-of-band rejection with the increase of the number of resonators. The insertion loss decreases with the increase of the number of reflector layers but the bandwidth is not much affected by the number of reflector layers. Ladder Filter and SCF with membrane layer show the spurious response due to spurious resonance properties. Ladder filter shows better skirt-selectivity characteristics in bandwidth but SCF shows better characteristics in insertion loss.

The ship radiated noise level fluctuates by the interference between direct and reflected paths. The effect of sea surface reflection path on interference depends strongly on sea surface roughness. This paper describes error characteristics of ship acoustic signature estimation by sea surface scattering effect. The coherent reflection coefficient which explains a magnitude of sea surface scattering and its resultant interference acoustic field is analyzed quantitatively as a function of a grazing angle, effective surface height, frequency, source-receiver range and depths of source and receiver. Theoretical interference acoustic field is compared with experimental result for two different sea surfaces and five different frequencies by changing source-receiver range. It is found that both matches well each other and a magnitude of interference acoustic field is decreasing by increasing a grazing angle, effective surface height, frequency, and depths of source and receiver and decreasing source-receiver range. For given experimental conditions, the transmission anomaly which is a bias error of ship acoustic signature estimation, is about a range of 1~3 dB. The bias error of an existing ship radiated noise measurement system is also analyzed considering wind speed, source depth and frequency.
