Their music listening attitude was the one that changed most remarkably. At the beginning activity application, the children were not naturally and could not listen attentively while researcher was singing song without words. • Robots evolve from tools to information media since they generates information by interacting with human. As studies on robot-aided education are still in a starting phase, attempts need to be made to use robots for educational purposes and to investigate the effects of the use. It was showed that robot-aided learning was friendlier than other media assisted learning, and especially effective for motivating children. We developed the prototype robot Jenny that can help teachers as a educational media in class(i.e. as a T.A. robot, it can present robot contents on its chest to screen and explain about it when teacher asks). is a schoolmate for 5th or 6th grade children or an elder schoolmate for the rest. We performed the field trial at an elementary school. We carried out 9 classes for three subjects(english, korean, music) with -students in $4th{\sim}5th$ grade. They thought Jenny who was 13 years old as an elder schoolmate in 6th grade. Also, a significant difference was found in the interest and concentration of experimental groups from controlled groups.

  • According to Edwin Gordon(1987, 1997, 2003), music aptitude is a product of interaction of innate potential and early environmental experiences. He referred to music aptitude of children up to nine years of age as developmental music aptitude which fluctuates due to musical environment. Music aptitude stabilizes at age nine, and the music aptitude after age nine is called "stabilized music aptitude". This research is to examine Gorden's hypothesis that the younger a child receives music education, the higher music aptitude. Also, this research is to experiment the effect of Audiation activities developed in Audie Music Curriculum on music aptitude. The researcher and another Audie teacher as a co-teacher guided children together for 30 minutes once a week. The pedagogy guidelines for informal guidance in music learning theory were kept throughout the classes. Also, Audie's teaching method which had been developed for Korean Kindergarten educational environment was also applied. Five-year-old subjects in Experimental group 1 experienced the Audie Music Curriculum of one year; five-year-old subjects in Experimental group 2 experienced it for two years. Primary Measures of Music Audiation was administered three times during their last year of Kindergarten. Subjects in the Control groups, one examined at the beginning and the other at the end of their last year in Kindergarten, received no Audie instruction. There was no significant difference in tonal aptitude, but there was significant difference in rhythmic aptitude(p< .05) among the experiemental groups. Because both Experimental groups showed statistical significance (p< .001) in the music aptitude increase during their academic years, the significant differences of the year-end music aptitude between control group and experimental groups were the expected result.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how a creative musical play program affected peer relational skills of children in a community child center. The creative musical play program was implemented with six children in K Community Child Center for twenty (20) sessions. To investigate quantitative change, the Peer Relational Skills Scale and the Revised Social Skills Scale (for teachers) were filled out by children and teachers before and after the program. Also, to investigate musical and behavior changes related with peer relational skills in the creative musical program, the responses of children were categorized from the data of the children's responses according to previously identified sub-factors of peer relational skills. The results show that the participants' average scores presented an improvement in peer relational skills. Qualitative analysis of session logs presented that negative factors which had appeared in early sessions changed to positive traits as the sessions went on. In conclusion, the creative musical play program was effective in increasing peer relational skills of children in the community child center.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how a therapeutic drumming intervention would impact middle school students with regard to school violence prevention. Participants were all in the third-year class of a middle school in Korea. A school music teacher and a music therapist designed and implemented the program collaboratively, and mainly used dyadic, synchronized, and improvisational drumming based on the Social Emotional Learning core competencies. A total of 65 students participated in a weekly 45-minute program for 10 weeks. Ten participants out of 65 were selected for interviews and the rest of the 55 participants were asked to fill out an open-ended survey. Content analysis of the survey and interviews produced 492 meaningful statements, which were categorized into seven themes: somatic responses to drumming, emotional processing, group cohesion, empathy, relationship with peers, self-esteem, and self-regulation. The findings indicated that dyadic, synchronized, and improvisational drumming may promote prosocial behaviors in students of this age. The author discussed that drumming produces physical input directly from the instruments, which prompts students to identify and empathize with their own or others' emotions. This study therefore suggests that collaborative work between school music teachers and music therapists may positively impact middle school students' prosocial behaviors, as they pertain to school violence in Korea.

  • Despite the numerous graduates being produced in practical music and history, which have not been shorter than 30 years, the employment of students remains an unsolvable task. Most graduates are employed by private institutes as music instructors or got involved in band activities, which are non-regular work and not stable. The rapid development of K-pop along with national strength has changed our lives as well. As a result, the cultural and artistic fields, which were previously recognized only as luxury, have rapidly become popular. In the form of learning, internalized and experiencing, not just watching has a huge impact on improving the quality of our lives. This is reflected in national policies including the operation of cultural arts, education programs in elementary, middle, and high schools, and art programs designed to improve the welfare of residents at local community centers. It is time to expand its job-horizon to the relevant fields, and thus focus on promoting programs related to obtaining certificates to help our students find jobs. In addition, the government should create a course for music teacher certification in the field of practical music that differs from the current music teacher certification of secondary schools. It is very urgent to establish the teaching course in four-year universities or graduate schools of practical music education.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the use of sound sources in music education for children, discuss how to use the digital sound sources, and explain the advantages and the disadvantages. The study participants collected data through focal group interviews with 8 preschool teachers interested in music education for children. The results of the study are as follows. Actual use of sound sources were divided into two categories: "Digital sound source is frequently used," "Need to play directly according to circumstances." The method of digital sound source use was divided into "Download as paid and provided as a cassette," "Playing sound sources directly from laptops and smartphones." Benefits and reasons for digital sound source use was divided into "Easy to use," and "Necessary when it is difficult to play the actual piece." Demerits of digital sound source use was divided into "Lacking variety" "Inconvenience of use." This study is believed to be meaningful in providing the basis for the provision of sound sources in music education for children and the basic sources of research on the use of sound sources.
