  • This study aimed to investigate the use of music and imagery (MI) as a method for promoting mindfulness. A total of 11 music therapy interns participated in an MI group over 8 weeks. Statements from participants during the program were transcribed and analyzed using the method of modified grounded theory. The results showed that the participants' statements fell into three categories: awareness, acceptance, and distancing. For each category, subcategories were identified. For the category of awareness, the subcategories were emotion, sensation, and thoughts. For the acceptance category, the subcategories were facing and broadening viewpoints. For the distancing category, the subcategories were dissociation from emotions. Each subcategory was further analyzed. The results showed that the participants' experiences were similar to one another in terms of type but differed in terms of dimension varied. These results support the use of MI for increasing mindfulness and reducing burnout in music therapy interns. Further studies are recommended to investigate the factors for the experience of mindfulness induced by MI processes.

  • This thesis urges the change of the education system of popular music for globalization of K-POP in a longer point of view Korean popular music has developed not only musically but also sound quality itself. Moreover it became popular in a global scale in the name of K-POP. However, it is still limited to idol music, and numerous issues related to the lack of musical talent are emerging Even though the routine of birth and death of several idol groups and singers are still repeated. Recently, the skills of artists enhanced due to audition TV shows but still it's not enough. Under this situation, it is not appropriate to rely on audition TV shows and Entertainment Management companies for picking up talented artists. Therefore, like Classic or Traditional music, schools concentrated for popular music must be founded. If this become enabled, young students going to entertainment companies or to unqualified but expensive private institutes will disappear. Moreover, it can prevent students from lacking behind in their academic activity. In addition, a reformation should be done education colleges for raising popular music educators

  • The purpose of this research was to review the music choices of GIM therapists in GIM. Seven databases and nine music therapy journals were searched with keywords such as "Guided Imagery and Music", "GIM", "Helen Bonny", "Bonny method", "Music and Imagery" and "BMGIM" between 1964 to 2013. Every abstract was confirmed to see whether it meets this research topic. 12 of 126 articles that described the reasons for music choices were selected. It is the result of narrative literature review that GIM therapists chose music to match clients' qualities of moods, emotions, feelings related with issues and clients' themes in therapy. In 5 articles among the 12 articles, authors chose music with considering music elements analytically to match clients' states. Reasonable explanations for music choice were reviewed in these 5 articles. There were limitations to obtain common facts between articles because most of 126 articles were case studies which described from therapists's point of view in a qualitative way. A more fundamental research is required to obtain rationales of music choices in GIM as a music-centered music psychotherapy for the further research.
