  • This study was conducted to carry out with the structure of ground-beetles(Coleoptera: Carabidae) community surveyed depending on altitude in Mt. Gabjangsan, Sangju, from August 2004 to October 2004. The 1,439 individuals in 15 species of 4 families were found in the survey. In the monthly taxa diversity, September of 697 individuals and 12 species was higher than August of 102 individuals and 8 species and October of 640 individuals and 5 families. The diversity index and evenness index were the lowest, but richness index was the highest in 800m altitude. The richness index was the highest in 400m altitude and evenness index was the highest in loom altitude. Synuchus cycloderus is a dominant species in 300-800m altitude and Synuchus nitidus is a dominant species in loom altitude. In these results, indicator insects for the evaluation of golf courses environment in mountain area construction were selected as S. cycloderus and S. nitidus.

  • There are few available studies for insect diversity in relation to coastal dune despite the unique landscape features and high conservation value. Therefore, this study compared ground beetle assemblages inhabiting between windbreak forests and sand dunes in the Taeanhaean National Park. It investigated five windbreak forests and three coastal dunes using pitfall traps from middle of June to middle of October in 2014. A total of 2,335 ground beetles belonging to 30 species of 15 genera were collected. Synuchus arcuarticollis (158 individuals) and Dolichus halensis halensis (153 individuals) were dominant of 25 specifies collected from sand dunes while Synuchus arcuarticollis (1,630 individuals), Synuchus nitidus (130 individuals), and Synuchus cycloderus (42 individuals) were dominant of 14 species collected from windbreak forests. The similarity of ground beetles compositions in sand dunes and windbreak forests was significantly low at 27.4%. The results of this study showed that sand dune geographical features found in the Taeanhaean National Park had different insect assemblages from windbreak forests. It will be the useful information for conservation of insects in the future.

  • The study was carried out to investigate distribution and diversity of beetles with pitfall traps and beatings 3 times at Baegyang temple area of Naejangsan National park from July to September in 2010. A total of 333individuals belonging to 32 species from 13 families were captured beetles at Baegyang temple area of Naejangsan National park. The rate of captured individuals was 17.4% and 13.3% in Synuchus cycloderus and Synuchus nitidus, respectively. The total of two species was 30.7%. The number of individuals by altitude was the highest at 200m, and was order of 500m>400m>700m. A total of 333 individuals belong to 32 species from 13 families were captured at Baegyang temple area of Naejangsan National park. The number of captured individuals by monthly was 95 on July, 178 on August and 60 on September, respectively. Dominance index was the highest to Attelabidae and was the lowest to Rutelidae. Dominance index by monthly was the highest on July and was the lowest on September. Diversity index showed the highest to Rutelidae in family and on August in monthly. Menhinich index was 1.75 which species abundance indicated by beetles at Baegyang temple area of Naejangsan National park.
