Behavior of Geotextile Tube by Plane Strain Analysis and 3-Dimensional Finite Element Method (평면변형해석과 3-D FEM 기법을 통한 지오텍스타일 튜브의 거동해석)

  • Geotextile tube is hydraulically filled with dredged materials and has been applied to coastal protection and scour protection, dewatering method of slurry, and isolation of contaminated material. Recently, geotextile tube technology is no longer alternative construction technique but suitable desired solution. In this paper, the numerical analysis was performed to investigate the behavior of geotextile tube with various properties of geotextile sheet and hydraulic pumping conditions. Numerical analysis was executed to compare with the results from the large-scale field model tests, and also with those of plane strain analysis and 3-D FEM analysis. A geotextile tube was modeled using the commercial finite element analysis program ABAQUS and the one-quarter of tube was modeled. Behavior of geotextile tube during the hydraulic pumping procedure was analyzed by comparing the large-scale field model test and numerical analysis. The shape variation and maximum tube height between the numerical analysis results and large-scale filed test results are turned out to be in a good agreement.

Sensitivity Analysis of Strain on Notches under Cyclic Loading to 2-D Finite Element Density in Elasto-Plastic Finite Element Analysis (탄소성 유한요소해석시 2차원 유한요소 밀도에 대한 반복하중이 작용하는 노치부의 변형률의 민감도 분석)

  • This paper presents sensitivity analysis results of strain on notches under cycling loading to 2-D finite element density considering plasticity. Cylindrical notched specimens having some stress concentrations were modeled with 2-D axisymmetrical finite element having various finite element densities. Elasto-plastic finite element analysis was performed for the various finite element models subjected to cycling loading considering plasticity. The finite element analysis results were compared to investigate sensitivity of the finite element analysis variables such as von-Mises effective stress, accumulated equivalent plastic strain, and equivalent plastic strain to 2-D finite element density. As a result of the comparison, it was found that the accumulated equivalent plastic strain is more sensitive than the others whereas the von-Mises effective stress is much less sensitive.

  • Finite element analysis is widely used to predict the structural stability and tooth contact performance of gears. This study focused on the effect of finite element modeling conditions of a spur gear on the simulation result and the model simplification. The gear body and teeth, teeth width, configuration of mesh, frictional coefficient, and simulation time interval (gear mesh cycle division) were selected for model simplification for gear analysis. The static transmission error during a single-gear mesh cycle was calculated to represent the performance of the gear, and the elapsed time was measured as a simplification factor. Contact stress distribution was also checked. The differences in maximum transmission error and elapsed time depending on the model simplification methods were analyzed. After all simplification methods were estimated, an optimal combination of the methods was defined, and the result was compared with that of the most detailed modeling methods.

  • The FEM is a computer-aided mathematical technique for obtaining approximate solution to the differential equations. The pointwise convergence defines the relationship between the mesh size and the tolerance. This will play an important role in improving quality of finite element approximate solution. In the paper. We evaluate the convergence on a certain unknown point with a 1-irregular mesh refinement and spectral order enrichment. This means that the degree of freedom is minimized within a tolerance.

  • 2차원 하천흐름. 유사이동, 오염확산 해석을 위해서는 유한요소법(FEM) 등을 활용한 수치해석 모델이 사용되며, 이 때 모델링을 위해서 모의영역은 2차원의 요소망으로 구성하게 된다. 기존 국내 연구에서는 이러한 2차원 요소망 생성 및 수치해석을 위해 SMS 및 CCHE2D와 같은 외국의 상용 프로그램을 이용하였으나, "수자원의 지속적 확보기술개발 사업"의 일환으로 수행중인 "RAMS(River Analysis and Modeling System) 개발" 과제를 통해 순수 국산 2차원 수리해석 소프트웨어가 개발 중에 있다. 본 연구에서는 RAMS를 비롯한 기타 수리해석 모델에서 사용 가능한 2차원 범용 요소망 생성 프로그램을 개발하고자 다양한 요소망 생성 기법 및 국외 상용 2차원 수리해석 모델 프로그램에서의 메쉬 생성방법 등을 분석하여 프로토타입 메쉬 생성기를 개발하였다. 현재 개발 중인 요소망 생성 프로그램은 요소망 생성을 위한 기본 기능 외에도 생성된 요소망 데이터를 RAMS에 포함되어 있는 다양한 2차원 유한요소 모형의 입력자료 형태로 변환함으로써 수리해석에 적용가능하다. 이러한 범용 2차원 요소망 생성 프로그램의 개발은 안정적인 수치해석의 기반을 제공하고 다양한 하천흐름, 유사, 수질 해석 모델과 연계함으로써 하천의 수리학적인 거동을 보다 정확히 모의할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

FEM Analysis of Smart Skin Structure Specimen (스마트 스킨 구조물 시편의 유한요소 해석)

  • FEM analysis of the smart skin structure, and application of the sandwich structures investigated. The honeycomb manufactures only provide stillness of thickness direction and transverse shear modulus. Although these are dominant mechanical properties. the other mechanical properties are needed in FEM analysis. Hence, this work shows procedures of obtaining those mechanical properties. Honeycomb material was assumed to be ar, isotropic material and properties are estimated by its dominant honeycomb properties. The other honeycomb properties are then obtained by mechanical properties of Nomex. Buckling test and three point bending test were simulated by ABAQUS. Both the shell and solid element models were used. The results were compared with experimental results and analytical approaches. They showed good agreements. This study shows a guideline of FEM analysis of smart skin structure using commercial a FEM package.

Three-dimensional cure simulation of composite structures by the finite element method (유한요소법을 이용한 복합재 구조물의 3차원 경화 수치모사)

  • In this paper, a finite element formulation was introduced for the three-dimensional cure simulation of composite structures. Based on the formulation, a three-dimensional finite element code was developed. Numerical examples found in the literatures were solved for code verification. Results from the present analyses agreed well with the measured cure-induced temperatures. Unlike in one or two dimensional analysis, temperature and degree of cure were able to be calculated at any point within composite structures in the present analysis. The finite element program can be used for the cure simulation of composite structures with arbitrary geometry under non-uniform autoclave temperature distribution.

  • In this study, we analyze the static and dynamic characteristics of a bulk-cement trailer with a simpler structure that carries powders. The commercial software ANSYS is used to prepare a detailed three-dimensional model of the chassis frame and tank body that bear most of the load of a bulk-cement trailer for the finite element analysis. Modal analysis is conducted to examine the dynamic characteristics of the trailer body, and static analysis shows weak links in the structure. Finally, we propose a method to increase the strength of vulnerable areas and to reduce the weight of the trailer by applying the Taguchi method.

  • Dowel bar in the jointed concrete pavement has been designed and constructed by Foreign standard and experience in Korea. The behavior of dowel bar is explored based in analyze of 3-Dimension Finite Element Method. To evaluate behavior of dowel bar compared Timoshenko theory and 3-Dimensional Finite Element Method. Based on the 3-Dimension Finite Element Method analyze the dowel-bar optimum position that can reduce deflections of slabs by considering wheel path distributions was suggest in this study.
