The authors carried out an experiment to measure the hydrodynamic resistance of the gear and the efficiency of otter board of the midwater trawl, which is the same used in the former experiment in this series of studies. The whole resistance of the gear was measured by a 10 ton scale recording tension meter, and they were analyzed into the shearing force and the drag with relevant factors determined in the former experiments. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The whole drag of gear T(kg) and the drag of net R sub(N) (kg) can be expressed as T=2.15 v super(1.12). R sub(N)=1.96 v super(1.01) (v: towing speed in m/sec) 2. The formula of estimating the drag of net deduced by Koyama's method can be expressed as R sub(N)=4.3$\times$d/l$\times$abv 3. The shearing force and the drag of otter board is about 19 to 22% and 5 to 7% of the drag of net, respectively. Whereas, the shearing coefficient and the drag coefficient calculated by the resistance and the opening of gear are 1.5 and 0.42, respectively.

Ship's hydrodynamic coefficients in manoeuvring equations are generally derived by captive model tests or numerical calculations. Empirical formulas have been also proposed in some previous researches, which were useful for practical predictions of hydrodynamic coefficients of a ship by using main dimensions only. In this study, ship's hydrodynamic coefficients based on empirical formulas were optimized by using its free running test data. Eight manoeuvring performance indices including steady turning radius, reach in zig-zag as well as well-known IMO criteria indices are selected in order to compare simulation results with free runs effectively. Sensitivities of hydrodynamic coefficients on manoeuvring performance indices are analyzed. And hydrodynamic coefficients are tuned within fixed bounds in order of sensitivity so that they are tuned as little as possible. Linear and nonlinear coefficients are successively tuned by using zig-zag and turning performance indices. Trajectories and velocity components by simulations with tuned hydrodynamic coefficients are in good agreements with free running tests. Tuned coefficients are also compared with coefficients by captive model tests or RANS calculations in other previous researches, and the magnitudes and signs of tunes are discussed.
Numerical investigation has been carried out for laminar flow past an inclined square cylinder in cross freestream. In particular, inclination of a square cylinder with respect to the main flow direction can cause sudden shift of the separation points to other edges, resulting in drastic change of flow-induced forces on the cylinder such as Strouhal number (St) of vortex shedding, drag and lift forces on the cylinder, depending upon the inclination angle. Collecting all the numerical results obtained, we propose contour diagrams of drag/lift coefficients and Strouhal number on an Re-Angle plane. This study would be the first step towards understanding flow-induced forces on cylindrical structures under a strong gust of wind from the viewpoint of wind hazards.

This study was carried out to examine the prediction of ship's manoeuvrability in initial design stage. New parameter representing basic hull form and stern shape were proposed. Captive model test were carried out to investigate the correlation coefficient between hydrodynamic coefficient and hull parameter. The results showed which parameter are positive correlation with hydrodynamic coefficient. Moreover correlation was examined between sternhull shape and ship's manoeuvrability. These results can be used to predict a ship's manoeuvrability in initial design stage.

This paper describes a hydrodynamic modelling study based on the Feldman's equation to predict the nonlinear and coupled maneuvering characteristics of high speed submarine. The hydrodynamic coefficients set is obtained from the modeling of the cross flow drag force and sail induced vorticity, and the captive model experiments(VPMM and RA test) results used to improved the accuracy. The results contained in this paper will be helpful to predict the behavior of tight turn maneuver and to improve the SOE(Safety Operational Envelope) analysis in case of emergency maneuver.

In this study, a mathematical model of a 9.77 G/T small fishing vessel was established based on captive model tests. The powering and manoeuvring performances of the vessel in the harbor and coastal sea were focused on, so captive model tests were conducted up to the full-scale speed of 8 knots. Propeller open water, resistance, and self-propulsion tests of a 1/3.5-scaled model ship were performed in a towing tank, and the full-scale powering performance was predicted. Hydrodynamic coefficients in the mathematical model were obtained by rudder open water, horizontal planar motion mechanism tests of the same model ship. In particular, in static drift and pure yaw tests which were conducted at a speed of 2 to 8 knots, the linear hydrodynamic coefficients varied with the ship speed. The effect of the ship speed on the linear coefficients was considered in the mathematical model, and manoeuvring motions, such as turning circles and zig-zags, were simulated with various approach speeds and analyzed.
This paper presents the slip behavior of composite fabrics by high speed resin flow in high pressure resin transfer molding. In order to observe the fiber deformation behavior, we constructed the measuring equipment for friction coefficient between fiber and mold, and the monitoring system for deformation of fiber preform in high-pressure RTM process. Coulomb friction coefficient and hydrodynamic friction coefficient between fiber preform and mold were measured and the external force induced by fluid flow causing the deformation of fiber preform was measured. Friction force calculated by friction coefficient and the external force upon fiber deformation were compared, which showed that preform deformation occurred when the external force was bigger than the friction force. The slip behavior of the fiber preform was mainly influenced by the volume fraction of fiber preform and the friction coefficient.

In the study, computational fluid dynamics analysis was performed to estimate wind force coefficients for a box-type concrete girder bridge under the influence of wind. The drag, lift and pitching moment coefficients were obtained for the bridge section without noise barrier and compared with those of the bridge section with noise barriers of various heights. The shear stress transport $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model was employed to estimate the wind force coefficients, and the contribution of the friction drag force to the total drag force was investigated. It was found from the study that the drag force coefficients increased as the height of noise barrier increased when a wind blew horizontally, and that the contribution of the friction drag force was highest for the bridge section without noise barrier. It is concluded that the impact of the height of noise barriers should be considered in the design of bridges, and the friction force played an important role in evaluating wind forces on bridges.
