  • The thermodynamic performance of ocean thermal energy conversion with 1 kg/s geothermal water flow rate as a heat source was evaluated to obtain the basic data for the optimal design of cycle with respect to the classification of the working fluid. The basic thermodynamic model for cycle is rankine cycle and the geothermal water and deep seawater were adapted for the heat source of evaporator and condenser, respectively. R245fa, R134a are better to use as a working fluid than others in view of the use of geothermal water. It is important to select the proper working fluid to operate the ocean thermal energy conversion. So, this paper can be used as the basic data for the design of ocean thermal energy conversion with geothermal water and deep seawater.

  • A side by side refrigerator is popularly used one among electric home appliances according to the rise of the customer's living standard. But the frost problem in freezing compartment comes out whenever we develop the high quality refrigerator. In this research, internal flow simulation and temperature measurement were carried out by using CFD and T-type thermocouple respectively in order to understand freezing mechanism. It was revealed that the amount of frost beneath the 1st and 2nd shelves is approximately 40% of total frost and the cause of frost generation is due to bad circulation of low speed cold flow. Using this analysis, the shapes of outlets under shelves are modified. So, the amount of frost in this modified model decreases 6% comparing to original one.

  • When a large ship is advancing in waves, ship undergoes the hydroelastic response, which has influences on structural stability and the fatigue destruction etc. of the ship. Therefore, to predict accurate hydroelastic response, it is necessary to analyze hydroelastic response including fluid-structure interaction. In this research, a ship is divided into many hull elements to calculate the fluid forces and wave exciting forces on each elements using three-dimensional source distribution method. The calculated fluid forces and wave exciting forces are assigned to nodes of hull elements. The neighbor nodes are connected with elastic beam elements. We analyzed hydroelastic responses, and those are formulated by using finite element method. Particularly, to estimate the influence of forward speed on the hydroelastic responses, we use two different methods : Full Hull Rotation Method(FHRM) and Sectional Hull Rotation Method(SHRM).

  • Pneumatic control systems have been mainly used as a high speed operating system. Therefore, state change of air in a control volume was assumed to be adiabatic change and, pneumatic control systems have been analyzed by using this assumption. Especially, when absolute value of pressure change in the control volume is small, there is a tendency to neglect effect of temperature change on pneumatic control system because temperature change owing to pressure change is small. In this study, an effect of temperature change of air on the decompression control process was analyzed by considering change of mass flow rate, and heat transfer characteristics between air in the chamber and the chamber wall. As a result, this study could confirm that a slight temperature change of the air in the pneumatic pressure control system can influence on the dynamic characteristics of pressure response, and pressure control performance.

  • Nowadays, the thermal environments of classrooms are usually adjusted by the ceiling type air-conditioning system with a temperature sensor installed on inlet of an air-conditioner. However, it is not clear that the conventional temperature sensor position is proper to satisfy both thermal comport and energy saving in summer especially. Therefore, this study is aimed at finding out the best position of the temperature sensor on the purpose of the comfort thermal environment and energy saving. The different 5 positions for the temperature sensor are supposed in this paper to analyze thermal environment by CFD. From the analysis through the CFD simulations, the best position of the temperature sensor satisfying for both comfort thermal environment and energy saving is obtained.

  • The characteristics of centrifugal pump performance according to fluid viscosity change were studied experimentally. A small volute pump with low specific speed was tested by changing the viscosity of an aqueous solution of sugar and glycerin, which is considered a Newtonian fluid. After finishing the test, the total head, shaft horsepower, and pump efficiency were compared with those of a water pump. The results are summarized as follows: (1) when the fluid viscosity is increased, the shut-off head shows very little change but the total head decreases gradually as the flow increases, and this makes the H-Q curve leaning rapidly, and (2) when the fluid viscosity is increased, the shaft horsepower shows very little change at the shutoff condition; however, the shaft horsepower increases more rapidly with an increase in the flow and viscosity.

  • In this study, the flow analyses were performed on the fluid clutch turbine blade shapes of models 1, 2 and 3, with eight turbine blades tilted at 45 °, 40 °, and 35 ° angles on the propulsion shaft, respectively. The larger the angle of inclination on the propulsion shaft, the higher the flow pressure among the flow models after the back of the turbine blades. On the other hand, the smaller the angle of inclination on the propulsion shaft of the turbine wing, the lower the flow rate. It can be seen that the smaller inclination angle of the turbine blade surface on the propulsion shaft, i.e., the wing shape close to perpendicular to the flow of fluid, is more suitable for efficiently connecting and disconnecting the fluid clutch. By applying the flow analysis by type of turbine blade of fluid clutch, the study result at this paper is considered to be favorable as the convergent research material which can apply the aesthetic design.

  • A commercial CFD code is applied to analyze the 3-D viscous flow field within vertical multi-stage centrifugal pimp including impeller with 6 blades and guide vane with 11 blades and is performed by changing flow rate from 10 to $26\;m^3/h$ at the constant 3500rpm. The purpose of this 3-D numerical simulation is to confirm how much the effect of blade inlet angle of guide vane has an influence on the performance of vertical multi-stage centrifugal pimp. these results performed by $20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$ inlet angle of guide vane are compared with grundfos performance data. The vertical multi-stage pump consist of the impeller, guide vane, and cylinder. The characteristics such as total pressure coefficient total heat shaft horse power, power efficiency, discharge coefficient are represented according to flow rate changing.

  • The performance of screw air compressor is affected by rotor profile, lobe number, air end wrap angle, rotor L/D ratio, suction and discharge ports, revolutions of air end and load regulation control, etc. In general, an efficient screw compressor needs a rotor profile of which has a large flow cross-section area, short sealing lines and a small blow-hole. In this study, experimental study was performed with newly designed $5{\times}6$ rotor profile and various shapes of air end. Results show that the measured specific power consumption of the newly designed screw compressor appeared to be lower than any other published data for the equivalent screw compressors manufactured.
