  • Calcium hydroxide is used as a root canal medicament with its several pharmacological effects. However, it has been known that the usage of calcium hydroxide in the root canal system before canal filling with gutta-percha and zinc oxide eugenol-based cement induced change in the properties of root canal cement which might adversely affect sealing ability of the canal filling. The purpose of this study was to identify the reactivity of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound made from chemical interaction of between calcium hydroxide and zinc oxide eugenol. Chemical properties of calcium hydroxide, eugenol, zinc oxide eugenol, calcium hydroxide-eugenol and calcium hydroxide-zinc oxide eugenol compound were analyzed using XRD. FT-IR Spectrophotometer and FT-NMR Spectrometer. The results were as follows: 1. The compound made from interaction between calcium hydroxide and zinc oxide eugenol was as follows : 2. Calcium hydroxide was shown to make chemical bond (ionic bond) with eugenol. 3. Since bonding between $Ca^{2+}$ and eugenol is simple ionic nature, under water existence, calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound may be ionized easily and its physical property be deteriorated.

  • 저자는 임상에서 널리 사용되는 근관충전재료인 산화아연유지놀, N2, MN2 및 Triozinc Paste의 살균효과를 비교하기 위하여 한천배양기 및 혈액가한천배양기상에서 백색포도상구균 및 α-용혈성연질상구균의 두균주를 사용, 실험하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1) 백색포도상구균을 심은 한천배양기상에서 비건조도판을 사용한 실험군에서의 균성장억제대는 MN2, 6. 83; Triozinc paste, 5. 77; N 2, 5. 61; 산화아연유지놀, 3.49mm였다. 2) 백색포도상구균을 심은 한천배양기상에서 건조도판을 사용한 실험군에서의 균성장억제대는 MN2, 4.40; Triozinc paste, 1.46; 산화아연유지놀, 0.99; ㅜ2, 0.84mm였다. 3) 백색포도상구균을 심은 혈액가한천배양기상에서 건조도판을 사용한 실험군에서의 균성장억제대는 MN 2, 1.15; Triozinc paste, 0.55; 산화아연유지놀, 0.54; N2, 0.43mm였다. 4) α-용혈성연질상구균을 심은 용혈가한천배양기상에서 건조도판을 사용한 실험군에서의 균성장억제대는 MN 2, 2.14; Triozinc paste, 1.00; 산화아연유지놀, 0.75; N 2, 0.43mm였다.

Examining Children's Peer - relationship Strategies of Free Play in a Child-care Center (어린이집의 자유놀이에서 놀이 틀 유지와 변화를 위한 유아의 또래관계 전략들)

  • This study, based on understanding the play features of the participants, explores early children's peer-relation strategies of maintaining and altering play frame and understanding the meaning of the strategies. Free play of 5-year-old children's was observed. The child-care center was visited 1 or 2 days a week, from March to October, 2012. The data collected were based from field notes, interviews with participants, their workbooks and more. The participants used strategies such as 'refusing', 'incapacitating', 'interpreting in a way to sympathize', and 'changing the rules of play' to maintain the play, whilst 'tell-on', 'being on the same side', 'accepting 3rd party' features were used to alter play frame. Participants using these various play-frame strategies experienced life implications of 'dialectic of exclusion and selection' and 'quiver of boundary'. This study, specifying efforts of the children to maintain and alter the play frame, will provide an understanding of perception of "social exclusion" to children, which has been viewed negatively in the past. It will also benefit on-site teachers in helping them understand peer-relationship within children and provide a more in-depth intervention for peer-relationship issues.

PROPERTIES OF CALCIUM HYDROXIDE-EUGENOL COMPOUND (수산화칼슘-유지놀 화합물의 물성)

  • When a zinc-oxide eugenol type sealer was placed in root canals treated previously with calcium hydroxide, acceleration of its setting and the yellowish discoloration were observed clinically. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the properties of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound. Some physical properties of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound were compared with a manufactured zinc-oxide eugenol based root canal sealer, Tubli-seal$^{(R)}$ in terms of water solubility, water sorption, film thickness and microleakage. Solubility and water sorption were determined by the use of the method described in American Dental Association Specification(ADAS) no. 57. Ten samples of each material were prepared into disks 20mm in diameter and 1.5mm in thickness. The samples were immersed in 50ml of distilled water at $37{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 7 days. The samples were then removed and placed in a desiccator. The values for solubility and water sorption were calculated using differences between the weights of same sample. Film thickness was determined by the use of the method described in ADAS no. 57 too. A small quantity of mixed cement was placed between two glass plates of which thickness was measured previously. 15Kg loading was applied and total thickness of the glass plates and the cement film was measured. The thickness difference was recorded as the material's film thickness. Microleakage was determined with a dye penetration method. Experimental materials were placed between the dentin surface of bovine tooth and the acrylic rod. These units were immersed in Pelican ink (W-Germany) for three days. Dye-penetrated dentin surfaces of bovine tooth were measured using the NIB Image 1.60 Macintosh program. The results are as follows: 1. Water solubility value of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound (20.98${\pm}$2.94%) was statistically higher than those of Tubli-seal$^{(R)}$(2.52${\pm}$0.49%)(p<0.05). 2. Water sorption value of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound (59.72${\pm}$17.75%) was statistically higher than those of Tubli-seal$^{(R)}$(3.15${\pm}$0.76%)(p<0.05). 3. Film thickness value of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound (0.36${\pm}$0.03mm) was statistically higher than those of Tubli-seal$^{(R)}$(0.12${\pm}$0.1mm)(p<0.05). 4. Dye penetration value after 3 days-immersion of calcium hydroxide-eugenol compound(57.63${\pm}$25.85%) was statistically higher than those of Tubli-seal$^{(R)}$(28.05${\pm}$23.46%)(p<0.05).

Optimization of Semi-Batch Process for Ethanol Production (에타놀 생산을 위한 Semi-batch 발효 공정의 최적화)

  • As flocculent strains are likely to have considerable potential for internal cell recycle, kinetic studies on glucose medium with flocculent Saccharomyces uvarum were carried out in batch and continuous culture. Using a mathematical model, the kinetic parameters at each temperature and pH were estimated in order to establish optimal conditions. It was found that an overall optimum temperature for growth and ethanol production in the range 33-35$^{\circ}C$ was desirable. With regard to the effect of pH, ethanol production by S. uvarum was found to be relatively insensitive to pH value between 4 and 6, with an optimum pH of around 5. At these optimal conditions a maximum ethanol productivity of 12 g/$\ell$/h was determined using semi-batch process together with 5. uvarum.

EFFECT OF TEMPORARY CEMENT ON TENSILE BOND STRENGTH OF DENTIN BONDING AGENT (Temporary Cement가 상아질 접착제의 접착성능에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to the effect of temporary cement on the adhesiveness of dentin bonding agent to dentin surface. One hundred freshly extracted bovine mandibular incisors were grinded to expose flat labial dentin surface. The dentin surfaces were temporarized with either eugenol-containing temporary cement(TemBond and Zinc Oxide Eugenol cement) or non-eugenol temporary cement(Nogenol and TempBond NE) for 7days, and then the temporarization was removed with surgical currette and the exposed dentin surfaces were water-rinsed. Bonding specimens were made by use of All-Bond 2 and Super-Bond C&B dentin bonding agent, and stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24hours. The tensile bond strenth and the cohesive failure rate were measured, and then the pretreated dentin surfaces which the temporary cement had been applied to and removed from and the fractured dentin surfaces after bonding test were examined under scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows : In case of bonding with All-Bond 2, tensile bond strength of each experimental group was lower than that of the control group(p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the bond strengths of the control group and each experimental group in case of bonding with Super-Bond C&B(p>0.05). No significant difference between tensile bond strength of experimental group, whether temporary cement contains eugenol or not, was seen(p>0.05). In case of bonding with All-Bond 2, the control group showed cohesive-adhesive mixed failure mode and the experimental groups mainly showed adhesive failure mode, but in case of bonding with Super-Bond C&B, almost of the control and the experimental groups mainly showed cohesive failure mode. On SEM examination, all of the dentin specimens pretreated with either 10 % phosphoric acid or 10% citric acid after application of the temporary cements demonstrated remnants of temporary cement attached to dentin surface.

The effect of eugenol on the induction of apoptosis in HSC-2 human oral squamous cell carcinoma (사람구강편평상피암세포에서 유지놀에 의한 세포자멸사 유도 효과)

  • Objectives: Oropharynx tumors(oral cancer), are caused by tobacco, alcohol consumption, and high-risk human papillomavirus(HPV) infection. Oral squamous cell carcinoma(OSCC) is the most common type of oral cancer and frequently arises from the mucosa of the oropharynx and oral cavity. Despite advances in the diagnosis and treatment(chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery) of oral cancer, over the past two decades, the overall survival rates remains at about 60%. Methods: We pretreated HSC-2 cells with various doses of exposed the cells to eugenol and then we measured cell viability by MTT assay. Results: Cell proliferation was markedly inhibited after eugenol treatment compared to the control. The majority of HSC-2 cells in the control groups showed normal morphology with round regular nuclei. In contrast, apoptotic bodies were seen in the 0.5 mM, 1 mM, 2 mM group. However, the pretreatment with eugenol increased HSC-2 cells apoptosis according to dose-dependency. PI staining quantitatively confirmed the anti-apoptotic effects of propofol. The expression levels of cleaved caspase 3, and Bak significantly increased in HSC-2 cells. Conclusions: These findings indicate that eugenol could be a potential anti-cancer agent for human OSCC and provide valuable data for the development of a novel anticancer strategy.

  • 전통놀이는 전통문화의 일부분으로 옛날부터 민간에 의하여 전승되어 오는 놀이로서, 이를 후세에 전승시켜 유지보존하고 이어가는 것은 그 사회집단의 독특한 문화를 계승 발전시키는데 있어 매우 중요하다. 그러나 급격한 도시화와 세계화에 따른 정체불명의 미디어와 게임의 확산은 전통놀이 계승을 통한 전통문화의 보존을 방해하는 요인으로 작용하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 놀이 공간 확보의 어려움과 청소년들이 디지털 미디어 단말기의 선호에 따른 실외 및 집단놀이 활동의 외면 등, 전통놀이 확산의 장애 요인을 극복하기 위하여 최신의 인터랙션 미디어 제작기법을 활용한 전통놀이의 설계 및 구현 기법을 제안하였다. 특히, 정월대보름날에 행해지는 대표적인 전통놀이인 쥐불놀이 키트를 최근 부각되고 있는 아두이노 보드와 가속도 센서를 이용하여 제작하고 프로세싱으로 구현하는 사례를 제시하였다.

  • The purpose of this study is to analysis for maintenance satisfaction of Apartment Building residents in Bundang. For this purpose, questionnaire survey about the level of maintenance satisfaction of Apartment building residents and condition of management. and secondary statistical analysis the important factors which influence the degree of residence maintenance satisfaction. The results of this study are as follows : the maintenance satisfaction of Apartment building residents high correlation with satisfaction of residence. and outsider entrance control level and the head of superintendent's office integrity gives high influence on maintenance of Apartment Building.

Studies on the Lipids of 'Bugbangjohgae' Spisula sachalinensis (북방 조개의 유지에 관한 연구)

  • The present investigation was performed to find the lipid composition of the total lipids, the fatty acid components of the neutral lipids and the phospholipids, and the composition of sterols, from Spisula sachalinensis. The results obtained are as follows ; 1) The main components of the total lipids are phospholipids$(43.1\%)$, triglyceride$(36.2\%) $, and sterol $(10.3\%)$. 2) The phospholipids are mainly composed of phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanols, mine, phosphatidal ethanolamine and phosphatidyl serine. 3) The main fatty acids of the neutral lipids, the ethanolamine phospholipids and choline phospholpids, are C20:5, C16:1, C16:0, C20:5, C18:0, C22:6 and C16:0, C20:5, C22:6, respectively. Oleic acid content of all fractions is very small compared with one of gastropoda lipids and fish oil. 4) Most of plasmalogen are present in the ethanolamine phospholipids and only trace of plasmalogen in the choline phospholipids. 5) Sterols to be found are 22-trans-norcholesta-5, 22-diene-$3\beta$-ol, 22-dehydrocholesterol, cholesterol, brassicasterol, 24-methylenecho-lesterol and $\beta-sitosterol$.
