  • 우리나라에서 건강식품으로 널리 알려져 있는 참전복은 불로장수의 식품으로 널리 애용되고 있을 뿐만 아니라 발암억제 물질인 paolin을 함유하고 있어, 세계적으로 상품가치가 인정되고 있다. 이러한 중요성에도 불구하고 참전복 부착치패의 성장 및 생존율 제고는 아직까지도 해결되어야 할 문제로 남아 있는 실정이다. 참전복 부착치패의 먹이선택성 및 유인성에 관한 기존의 연구를 보면 Viana et al. (1994)은 평균 각장 4.2 cm인 치패를 이용하여 배합사료의 9가지 원료에 대한 유연성을, Harada and Kawasaki (1982)는 각장 2.4 cm 이상인 치패를 대상으로 해조류 3종(미역, 톳, 파래)의 유인효과에 관하여 보고하였다. 그러나 이와 같은 보고들은 전복 종묘생산 현장에서 보다 빠른 시기에 박리하여 해조로 먹이 전환을 하기 위한 노력과는 어느 정도의 거리가 있다고 판단된다. 따라서 본 연구에 있어서는 평균 각장 5.0$\pm$1.0 mm인 치패를 박리하여 Navicula spp., 해조 2종(다시마, 파래) 및 자체 제조한 사료를 공급하여 먹이별 유인효과를 관찰하였다. Synthesis of Long-Chain Unsaturated Acetates (장직쇄상(長直鎖狀) 불포화(不飽和) 초산화합물(醋酸化合物)의 합성(合成)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • The female moths of Lepidoptera comprising over 1,000,000 described species possess long-chain unsaturated alcohols or esters as the typical structure of potential sex attractants. In this experiment, various stereoisomers of $C_{16}-unsaturated$ acetates were synthesized for potential sex attractants; e.g., $CH_3(CH_2)_mCH=CH(CH_2)_nOR$ (m=0-12, n=1-13, R=H and $-COCH_3$). Seventeen acetates were spectrometrically examined so that the data would provide a ready catalog of gas chromatography and mass spectrometric data for comparison with natural insect sex attractants. Exclusively cis and trans isomers were obtained by the catalytic and chemical reduction methods, respectively. Commercially available $CH_3(CH_2)_mBr,\;CH_3(CH_2)_mC{\equiv}CH,\;HC{\equiv}C(CH_2)_nOH\;and\;HO(CH_2)_n\;OH$ were used for the synthetic starting material. 1-Alkynes, $CH_3(CH_2)_m\;C{\equiv}CH$ exceeding nine methylene groups did not condense with alkyl dihalides. The yield of coupling products was gradually decreased with increasing the molecular weight of diols. In the coupling reaction of $BrCH_2CH_2$ OTHP with acetylene gas, the tetrahydropyranyl ether of bromohydrin produced undesirable elimination product. In this experiment, it seems that p-toluenesulfonic acid is greatly favoured hydrolyzing agent over dilute sulfuric acid in the hydrolysis of the tetrahydropyranyl ether of long-chain alkynols.

Behavioral Response of the Lacewing Chrysopa cognata to both Aphis gossypii-induced Plant Volatiles and Chrysopa cognata-derived Volatiles (목화진딧물 감염 식물 및 칠성풀잠자리 유래-휘발성물질들에 대한 칠성풀잠자리의 행동 반응)

  • This study was performed to investigate the response of the lacewing Chrysopa cognata to both Aphis gossypii-induced plant volatiles and lacewing-derived volatiles. The results of a Y-tube olfactometer bioassay showed that more C. cognata males were attracted to green pepper plants infected with A. gossypii than to uninfected green pepper plants alone or clean air and C. cognata males were attractive to C. cognata females. Gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) analysis showed that the antennae of C. cognata females elicited EAD-active responses to the volatiles entrained from A. gossypii-infected green pepper plants. 4-Ethylacetophenone, 3-ethylbenzaldehyde, 3-ethylacetophenone, and 4-ethylbenzaldehyde from A. gossypii-induced green pepper volatiles, and (Z,Z)-4,7-tridecadiene, (Z)-4-tridecene, and (Z)-4-undecene from C. cognata female entrainment were elucidated by further analysis using GC coupled nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Of the A. gossypii-induced plant volatiles identified in this study, 4-ethylacetophenone and 3-ethylbenzaldehyde significantly increased the attraction of C. cognata males to nepetalactol, but (Z)-4-tridecene and (Z)-4-undecene did not. (Z,Z)-4,7-Tridecadiene significantly reduced the attractiveness of nepetalactol to C. cognata.

Monitoring Technique of Pumpkin Fruit Flies Using Terpinyl Acetate-Protein Diet Lure and Development of Its Spraying Formulation for The Fly Control (Terpinyl acetate-단백질먹이 유인제를 이용한 호박과실파리류 연중발생 모니터링 기술 및 살포용 방제 제형 개발)

  • Two tephritid fruit flies are infesting pumpkins in Korea. Both are classified into genus of Zeugodacus. The striped fruit fly, Z. scutellata, males are attracted to a lure called Cuelure (CL), which has been used to monitor the occurrence of this fruit fly in the crop field. In contrast, no effective male lure was not developed to monitor the pumpkin fruit fly, Z. depressa. Protein diet lure has been used to attract females of most fruit flies. The addition of terpinyl acetate (TA) was effective to increase the attractiveness of Z. depressa. This study aimed to monitor the occurrence of Z. depressa in pumpkin field with TA-protein diet lure. To validate the efficiency of TA-protein diet lure, Z. scutellata was monitored in a year of 2019 using CL and TA-protein diet lures, and the yearly monitoring data were compared. The occurrence patterns derived from both lures were similar except late season after October. The extended catches of TA-protein diet lure might be explained by the adult diapause induction of Z. scutellata at late September. Monitoring Z. depressa with TA-protein diet lure gave two peaks at mid July and August-September, in which more than 80% catches were females. Based on the attractiveness of TA-protein diet lure, its wettable powder with an addition of spinosad insecticide was formulated and sprayed to pumpkin crops. After 7 days post-spray, the control efficacy recorded more than 70%. However, the control efficacies decreased as the time progressed after the spray. These results demonstrated the application of TA-protein diet lure for monitoring occurrence of Z. depressa in pumpkin-cultivating field conditions. The wettable powder containing spinosad can be applied to develop a new control agent against two pumpkin fruit flies.

  • Out of 60 quarantine insect pests in Korea, 42 species are classified into tephritid fruit flies. Most of these fruit flies are attracted to two natural products, methyl eugenol (ME) or raspberry ketone. Paraffin wax has been devised to formulate these lures. The formulated lures were applied to field test in Taiwan to attract quarantine fruit flies. Wax-ME formulation was installed in Delta trap and could attract 60-80 males of B. dorsalis per day during late August, while a wax formulation of Cue-lure (a methylated compound of raspberry ketone) attracted both B. cucurbitae and B. tau. These wax formulations can be applied to monitor these three quarantine species in Korea.

The Effect of Industrial Waste Water Effluent Charge Reform (수질배출부과금제도 개선 방안 연구)

  • This paper studies the effect of industrial waste water effluent charge reform. The goal of the present effluent charge system is to use environmental resources in an efficient way by charging the cost for removing emitted water pollutants. However, the present system is a type of regulation instead of providing economic incentives to the industry. That is, if a firm emits pollutants greater than the limit, it has to pay an amount greater than the cost of cleaning them taking into account the amount of waste water discharged, region, the number of violation and the level of density of pollutants. However, the excessive fees have resulted in the lowest ratio of revenue-to-effluent charge among all environmental charges. The paper estimates the effect of the change in effluent fee and revenue when the present effluent charge system is converted to one that offers economic incentives. The results show that the amount of waste water effluent charge is about four times larger than the estimated environmental cleaning cost. In addition, the results show that by modifying the effluent charge system, the ratio of revenue to effluent charge can be raised.

Effect of Different Abiotic Factors on Chemotaxis of Bacteria Towards Fungal Propagules (종류가 다른 무생물적 요인이 진균류에 미치는 세균의 주화성)

  • Chemotactic responses of five motile saprophytic and one phytopathogenic bacteria e.g. Agrobacterium radiobacter, Bacillus subtilis, B. polymyxa, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, P. fluorescens and Xanthomonas malvacearum towards exudate of Cochliobolus sativus conidia, Fusarium of oxysporum f. sp. ciceri chlamydospores, Macrophomina phaseolina sclerotia and Phytophthora drechsleri f. sp. cajani oospores were determined in vitro at different abiotic conditions. In general, a positive correlation (r=0.76 to 0.89; P=0.05) was observed between concentration of fungal exudates and attraction of bacterial cells. Similarly, a significant (P=0.05; r=+0.82 to 0.95) positive correlation was noticed between chemotactic response and incubation period. The chemotactic response of bacteria was greatly influenced by temperature and pH of the test fungal exudate. The optimum temperature for maximum chemotaxis was $25^{\circ}C$ for A. radiobacter, $30^{\circ}C$ for B. polymyxa, P. aerugionosa, P. fluorescens and X. malvacearum and $35^{\circ}C$ for B. subtilis. Fungal exudates maintained at pH 7 attracted maximum number of bacteria. The response of bacterial cells to exudates at pH 3 and 11 was not significantly (P=0.05) different than that to the buffer (control). Chemotaxis of bacteria was observed towards attractants (fungal propagules and their exudates) when they were kept apart and bridged with the capillaries filled with non-attractant (buffer) or attractant (exudate).
