The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of father's characteristics on the creativity of gifted preschoolers and nongifted preschoolers. Father's personality, creative personality and parenting self-efficacy were included in father's characteristics. The study subjects were 96 gifted and 180 non-gifted preschoolers and their fathers. Instruments were the Torrance Test of Creative Thinking(Torrance, 1984: Kim et al., 2002), Revised NEO-Personality Inventory(Costa & MaCrae, 1992), What Kind of Person Are You Scale of the Khatena-Torrance Creative Perception Inventory(Khatena & Torrance, 1976: Kim et al., 2004), and Parenting Efficacy Scale(Choe et al., 2001). The results showed that extroversion, healthy ability and disciplined ability of the gifted preschoolers' fathers influenced the children's fluency of creativity, while the disciplined imagination of gifted preschoolers' fathers influenced children's elaborateness of creativity. Regarding non-gifted children, the intimacy of the non-gifted preschoolers' fathers influenced the children's fluency of creativity, the general parenting ability of non-gifted preschoolers' fathers influenced children's abstractness of titles of creativity, the general parenting ability of non-gifted preschoolers' fathers the influenced children's elaborateness of creativity, and general parenting ability and learning guidance ability of non-gifted preschoolers' fathers influenced the children's resistance to premature closure of creativity.
Using data from an ongoing study of 170 children aged 4-6 years in low-income families, this study tests how mothers' parenting behaviors and teacher-child relationship influences the adjustment to child-care centers of young children. The mothers' parenting behaviors were measured by the mothers of surveyed children, while the teacher-child relationship and children's adjustment were rated by teachers. Measurements were recorded from using the Iowa Parent Behavior Inventory(Crase et al. 1987), Student-Teacher Relationship Scale(Pianta et al. 1995) and the Adjustment to Child-care Centers Scale(Lee 2004). The collected data was analyzed by hierarchical regression using the SPSS Program. Results indicate that mothers' parenting behaviors in the low-income families controlled characteristics of children and are positively associated with one area of early school adjustment, learning readiness. In other words, mothers who are more involved and demonstrate supportive parenting, have children with better learning readiness. The teacher-child relationship is strongly related to all areas of children's adjustment. The interaction effect of parenting behaviors and the teacher-child relationship on children's learning readiness is observed. These results highlight the importance of the teacher-child closeness as well as the quality of parenting behaviors during the preschool period for the low-income family in improving early school adjustment.
Objective: This study examined the mediating roles of preschoolers' self-regulation in the relationship between maternal parenting behaviors and preschoolers' excessive immersion in smartphones. Methods: A total of 268 mothers of preschoolers responded to questionnaires on three research variables. Data were analyzed by correlation analyses and regression analyses. Results: First, maternal warmth/encouragement was negatively related to preschoolers' excessive immersion in smartphones, while maternal overprotectiveness/permission and rejection/neglect were positively related to preschoolers' excessive immersion in smartphones. Second, maternal warmth/encouragement and limit setting were positively linked to preschoolers' self-regulation, but maternal overprotectiveness/permission and rejection/neglect were negatively linked to preschoolers' self-regulation. Third, preschoolers' self-regulation was negatively associated with their excessive immersion in smartphones. Finally, preschoolers' self-regulation fully mediated the relationship between maternal warmth/encouragement and preschoolers' excessive immersion in smartphones, and preschoolers' self-regulation partially mediated the relationship between maternal overprotectiveness/permission, rejection/neglect and preschoolers' excessive immersion in smartphones. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest that positive maternal parenting behaviors and preschoolers' effective self-regulation are important in order to decrease preschoolers' smartphone overuse. These findings provide empirical evidence to develop programs for prevention and intervention of preschoolers' smartphone addiction.
This study examined the mediating effect of self-esteem in the relationship between maternal rejective parenting attitude and children's leadership as well as identified gender differences in the mediating pathways. The mediating effects of this study were examined after controlling the effect of maternal employment status on rejection parenting attitude and the effect of siblings on the children's leadership. Participants consisted of 330 five- and six-year-old children (151 boys and 179 girls) and their mothers. Data analyses included t-tests, F tests, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ post-hoc tests and Pearson's correlation. Structure equation modeling examined the mediating effect of self-esteem. Bootstrapping method was applied to examine the significance of the mediating effects. Gender differences in the mediating effect were examined through multiple group path analyses. The results of this study were as follows. First, self-esteem mediated the relationship between the maternal rejective parenting attitude on children's leadership. Second, there was a significant gender difference in the mediating pathways with a full mediating effect of self-esteem for boys; however, there was only a partial mediating effect for the girls. This study has implication for investigating gender difference in the mediating mechanism of explaining variance in the leadership of preschoolers. The limitations and more implications of this study are also discussed.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of children's age and their fathers' childrearing involvement on the social morality of young children. Methods: The data were gathered from parents who had 3-5 year old children enrolled in daycare centers and from their daycare teachers. The parents answered questions about their children's socio-demographic background and the father's childrearing involvement. And the teachers rated children's social morality. The data from a total of 245 questionnaires were analyzed by SPSS 25.0. Results: First, there was a statistically significant difference between young children's morality score and convention score. Young children's morality scores were higher than their convention scores. Second, children's age was a significant influential factor on both their moral and conventional social morality. Third, father's care-discipline had the only impact on children's conventional social morality. That is, children's social morality was higher when their fathers gave them more care and guidance. Forth, an interaction effect between children's age and father's development-support on children's conventional social morality was found. Conclusion/Implications: The results from this study suggest that a differentiated approach is needed according to the types of childrearing involvement of fathers in order to improve children's social morality.
This study suggests that multicultural education should not be limited to educational sites such as kindergartens. Since the multicultural attitudes and consciousness of young children are unconsciously acquired through parents' words and school education, they emphasized the implementation of multicultural education at home and kindergarten. In other words, multicultural education should not only be carried out in the field of education, but also in the homes of children. However, there are still few studies on multicultural education for parents. In this regard, this study highlights the importance of parents on multicultural education by examining the socio-economic status of parents with early childhood children and their actual experiences in multicultural education. To provide basic data.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural relationship and influence of parents' family interaction, parenting efficacy, and child internalizing and externalizing problem behaviors. Methods: 1,418 children and their parents, and survey data from a panel study on Korean children (2014), were used to analyze the structural equation model. Results: First, the mother's family interaction had direct influence on their parenting efficacy, as well as their child's internalization and externalization. Second, the father's family interaction had a direct influence only on the internal problem behaviors of the child, and child external problem behaviors were influenced through the father's parenting efficacy. Third, parenting efficacy mediated the effects of family interaction on the problem behavior of children. Especially, the father's family interaction was found to affect child variables through the mother's parenting efficacy. Finally, the internalizing problem behaviors of the child mediated the effects of the parents' family interaction and parenting efficacy on child externalizing problem behaviors. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study are significant in that the factors of father, mother, and child are interrelated, and that parent interaction has varying influence on the problems of their children.
Objective: This study aimed to find out whether concern for children mediates the impact of parenting competence on the anger expression of mothers with young children. Methods: Subjects consisted of 219 mothers with children aged 3 to 6 years old attending kindergartens and daycare centers. The motehrs were given 3 rating scales about parenting competence, concerns about their children, and anger expression. The Parental Anger Scales measuring anger expression consisted of sub-factors such as situational anger, impulsive behavior, and difficulty of anger control. Results: Using the data collected, correlation analysis and the regression analysis procedure by Baron & Kenny(1968) were conducted; the significance of the mediating effects was verified by the Sobel test. First, the study found that there were significant positive correlations between mother's parenting competence, concern about children, and anger expression. Second, mothers' concern about their children had partial mediating effects on the relationships between parenting competence and overall anger expression, situational anger and impulsive behavior, and a complete mediating effect on the relationship between parenting competence and difficulty with anger control. Conclusion/Implications: These results were discussed in terms of the approach and content of parent education to help parents with young children control their anger.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to develop and validate a coparenting scales(mother's version) suitable for the Korean situation. Methods: In this study, mothers with one or more children were targeted. First, factor structure and construct validity were verified(N=412), and second, cross-validation and concurrent validity were verified(N=312). Results: The coparenting scale(mother's version) is largely composed of the mother's own coparenting and their spouse's coparenting. First, as a result of performing an exploratory factor analysis, three factors were extracted from the mother's own coparenting and their spouse's coparenting, and they were labeled parenting cooperation, parenting agreement, and parenting sharing. Through confirmatory factor analysis, 13 items were identified with three factors. Second, cross-validation was performed on a new group with confirmatory factor analysis, and as a result, validity was secured by satisfying the model validation criteria. In addition, the correlation between the existing scale and parenting efficacy was significant, thus securing concurrent validity. Conclusion/Implications: Through this study, the coparenting scale(mother's version) that was developed may provide practical guidelines for family coparenting by identifying mothers' perceptions of coparenting, and can be used in parent education and child-rearing policies.

This study analyzes several factors of good instruction that have been studied by precedent studies as well as the dominated perspective of teaching that validates the value of good instruction. For this purpose, the authors explore an understanding of the perspective that lessons ought to pursue. The authors examine the difference in the dominated perspective of good instruction of pre-service teacher and teachers through the study methodology of chi-square, one-way analyses of variance, and post-hoc test. The research subjects were enrolled students and graduates of the Department of Early Childhood Education at colleges in Seoul and the Capital area. The TPI that had been objectively indexed with comprehensive understandings and viewpoints of good instruction was also applied. The study result shows that high schools' dominated perspective is "nursing" and colleges' is "apprenticing", regardless of the kind of school. The article discusses the perspective of good instruction by comparing the results of domestic and foreign studies and this study. Some ideas were suggested for further research.
