The Effects of Winch-curtain Ventilation on the Indoor Environment of a Fattening Swine House (윈치커튼 환기가 비육돈사의 실내 환경에 미치는 영향)

  • The study was conducted to investigate the effects of climate on indoor environment of a swine house with natural. This study was tested in the beef swine stall at Young-in, Kyung-ki do. The test was experimented for the effect of interior environment by the outdoor environment and the interior-pan. The results are as follows. 1. In test 1 ($T_{out}$ : $25.7^{\circ}C$, without fan), an indoor air flow pattern was showed that entered from sidewall winch-curtain to went out of a indoor by the ridge winch-curtain. And the velocity of a section of the center was measured two times as large as the velocity of the floor. It is the acceleration of the velocity by thermal buoyancy. And, the entered air was rapidly dissipated by flow energy. So that in the swain livestock with sidewall winch-curtain is effected by thermal buoyancy. And the air temperature of the indoor was distributed more higher as compared with the outdoor temperature. This result is caused by the sensible heat from swine and the ventilation is restricted. 2. In test 2 (($T_{out}$ : $25.7^{\circ}C$, with fan), the velocity of a section of the center was measured more higher as compared with the test 1. And the variance of air velocity was distributed higher as compared with the test 1. This result is showed dead region of air flow with a fan operation. And, the variance of gas density was distributed lower as compared with the test 1.

  • An experimental investigation was conducted to determine the effect of a nonuniform pier on the stability of riprap placed around bridge piers. A nonuniform pier is one of which the cross-sectional dimension varies over the length of the pier and comprises a cylinder of diameter bp placed on a larger diameter of foundation bf. and the stability of riprap are significantly influenced by the height of foundation z.   • In this study, we present simple microfluidic approach for the synthesis of monodisperse microcapsules by using droplet-based system. We generate double emulsion through single step in the microfluidic device having single junction while conventional approaches are limited in surface treatment for the generation of double emulsion. First, we have injected disperse fluid containing FC-77 oil and photocurable ethoxylated trimethylolpropane triacrylate (ETPTA) and water containing 3 wt% poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) as continuous phase into microfluidic device. Under the condition, we easily generate double emulsion with high monodispersity by using flow focusing. The double emulsion droplets are transformed into microcapsules under the UV irradiation via photopolymerization. In addition, we control thickness of double emulsion's shell by controlling flow rate of ETPTA. We also show that the size of double emulsions can be controlled by manipulation of flow rate of continuous phase. Furthermore, we synthesize microcapsules encapsulating various materials for the application of drug delivery systems.

Estimation of Extreme Tide for Risk Analysis of Marine Salvage in the Namhae (southern sea of Korea) (한국 남해의 구난환경 위험성 분석을 위한 극치 조석 산정)

  • In marine salvage, extreme tide heights and tidal currents are necessary to anchor an accidental ship. In order to meet this requirement, a simple scheme was developed which yields the spatial informations on the extreme tide from the distribution of approximate highest astronomical tide heights using a relationship between extreme and highest astronomical tides at the standard port. This method is the inference method based on horizontally homogeneity of tide. This scheme was applied to estimate extreme tide heights and tidal currents in the Namhae (southern sea of Korea). The highest astronomical tide heights are computed by amplitude of four major constituents (M2, S2, K1, O1 tide). The estimated extreme tide heights are ranged from 70 to 260 cm for return period 50 years and from 80 to 270cm for return period 100 years, respectively. For return period 100 years, extreme tidal currents show value of 1.55 times as strong as those of normal state.

  • 하천에서 하도불안정(stream instability)으로 인하여 하상의 형태가 변화하고 하상파(sand wave)가 발생한다. 사련(ripple), 사구(dune) 등과 같은 하상파는 흐름저항을 유발하여 홍수시 수위를 증가시킨다. 수리실험 및 수치모형을 이용하여 사련 및 사구의 발달과정 그리고 이를 지나는 난류흐름에 대한 연구가 국외에서는 이루어지고 있지만 국내의 경우 거의 찾아보기 힘들다. 수치모형을 활용한 연구는 주로 횡방향으로 하상파가 일정하다는 가정하에 연직 2차원 수치모형을 적용하였으나 최근 컴퓨터 기술 및 수치기법의 고도화로 3차원 RANS(Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes) 또는 LES(Large eddy simulation)를 이용한 수치모형이 개발되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 LES에 유사이송 및 하상변동 모형과 결합하여 사구발달에 대한 수치모의를 수행하였다. LES와 유사이송 및 하상변동 모형의 결합은 순간유속성분을 하상변동모형에 직접 적용되기 때문에 난류영향을 고려할 수 있는 것이 장점이다. 특히 사구의 발달에 따라 복잡한 흐름이 발생하며 3차원 와구조가 발생하므로 난류특성의 고려는 필수적이다. 수치모의는 Delft Hydraulics (Bakker et al., 1986)에서 수행한 수리실험 T39를 활용하였다. 수리실험은 길이 100 m, 폭 0.5 m 개수로에서 수행되었으며 평균유속은 0.611 m/s, 수심은 0.436 m이다. 하상파 실험에 사용된 유사입경은 0.78 mm 균일사를 사용하였다. 수치모의 조건은 수리실험과 동일하게 하였으나 계산시간의 효율을 고려하여 흐름방향의 계산영역은 4.0 m로 하고 주기경계조건(periodic boundary condition)을 부여하여 계산을 수행하였다. 수치모의 계산은 사구의 길이 및 파고가 평형상태에 이를 때까지 수행되었다. 수치모의 통해 사구발달에 따른 흐름 및 하상변동 특성을 분석하였다.

Preparation of Monodisperse PEGDA Microparticles Using a Dispensing Needle Based Microfluidic Device (주사기 바늘 기반의 미세유체 장치를 이용한 단분산성 PEGDA 입자의 제조)

  • This study presents a novel method for preparing monodisperse polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) microparticles in a dispensing needle based microfluidic device. The microfluidic devices are manufactured by manually assembling various off-the-shelf products without using additional equipment. In this microfluidic device, the volumetric flow rates of the dispersed phase of PEGDA solution and the continuous phase of oil are controlled to generate monodisperse PEGDA droplets. The PEGDA droplet contains photo-initiator thus it is crosslinked to microparticle by photopolymerization at the ends of the device. The particle size is easily controlled by adjusting the volume flow rate and the size of the microfluidic device. The monodispersity of the particles is calculated by a coefficient of variation of 2.57%. To demonstrate the biological applications of PEGDA particles, cells are encapsulated and observed for proliferation and viability.

Study on the Ventilation System Applicability of High-rise Hog Building for Growing-fattening (고상식 육성비육돈사에 적합한 환기시스템에 관한 연구)

  • The goal of this study was to develop a suitable ventilation system for high-rise hog building (HRHB) for growing-fattening with combined slatted floor pen in second story and in situ manure management system in Korea. The HRHB was constructed as 29m long, 9m wide and 7.6m high for outer dimension with an indoor height of 3.1m and 2.4 for lower and upper floor, respectively. Ventilation systems for each treatment were installed in separated rooms of HRHB. The ventilation types installed in each room were following 3 types: ventilation type 1 (V1), where air was pulled through a circular duct inlet and exhausted by fans; ventilation type 2 (V2), where air was pulled through eave inlet (side ceiling inlet) and exhausted by fans; and ventilation type 3 (V3), where air was pulled through baffled ceiling inlet and exhausted by fans. For each ventilation system, investigated air velocity under minimum, medium and maximum ventilation ratio and air flow pattern inside. The results were as follows; For air flow pattern from top to bottom, V1 showed a homogeneous vertical type, V2 showed a bilateral symmetry type and V3 showed an vertical umbrella type. Under minimum ventilation ratio, air velocity in upper floor (80cm above the slated floor) was similar for V1, V2, and V3. Under maximum ventilation ratio, air velocity in upper floor was undeviating for V1 (0.10~0.26m/s) and varied for V2 (0.12~0.63m/s) while those for V3 was relatively slow and less varied (0.07~0.15m/s). In conclusion, Duct inlet type (V1) can be applied to the development of a new HRHB with additional evaluations such as field test hog feeding.

Stokesian Dynamic Simulation of Pigment Flow in Ink Jet Printer Nozzle (잉크제트 프린터를 이용한 섬유인쇄 시 노즐 관에서의 입자 흐름)

  • Textile printing prints around twenty bilion linear meters of textile each year. Rotary and flat bed screen printing requires pre and post treatments, leading to the loss of dyes and the environmental problems due to effluents. Digital ink jet printing can offer a solution to the existing problems, especially the environmental problems, in addition to its flexibility. Pigments are used as a dispersion inks in the digital inkjet textile printing. Molecular dynamic simulation like Stokesian dynamic simulation was employed to simulate the behavior of pigments and velocity distribution under the pressure driven flow in the printer nozzle. The simulation shows that the particle distribution in the flow are uniform if particle volume fraction is low, the ratio of nozzle and particle diameter is large, and the dimensionless average suspension velocity is low.

  • The DPF temperature distribution which has a great effect on regenerating the ceramic filter effectively was measured at 30 locations using K-type thermocouples. Five partitioned electric heaters were used for heating the ceramic filter and they are switched ON/OFF in order. Also, the temperature distribution in the ceramic filter was measured with varying the electrical power supply to the heaters and the mass flow rate of the air supply from a blower. The uniform distribution of the air flow velocity at the inlet of the DPF make that of the temperature in the ceramic filter. The difference in heating ability between the partitioned heaters had a great effect on the temperature distribution in the ceramic filter.

A Response Prediction Model for the Vortex-Induced Vibration of Marine Risers in Sheared Flow (전단류중 Marine Riser의 와류유기 진동 예측모델에 관한 연구)

  • A response prediction model is introduced for the non-lockin vibration of a marine riser in sheared flow, where the riser is modelled as linearly varying tensioned-beam. This prediction model is based on the Green's function approach and random vibration theory. This model, of course, can treat general beams having slowly varying spatial system parameters. According to the predicted result of a marine riser by the prediction model proposed in this paper, the dynamic behavior of a marine riser has the mixed characteristics of finite and infinite boundary behavior. Furthermore the velocity response distribution along the riser length is much similar with the sheared flow profile. The predicted response result of a marine riser having linearly varying tension was also compared to that of constant mean tensioned-beam model. It was found that the constant mean tensioned-beam case gives over-estimated responses at the top side of the riser.
