Fabrication and characterization of glass with E-glass fiber composition by using silica-alumina refused coal ore (사암계 석탄폐석을 활용한 E-glass fiber 조성의 유리 제조 및 특성)

  • The glass of E-glass fiber composition was fabricated by using refused coal ore which is obtained as by-product from Dogye coal mine in Samcheok. We used silica-alumina refused coal ore which has low carbon content relatively, and the amount of refused coal ore has been changed from 0 to 35 % in batch composition. E-glass was fabricated by the melting of mixed batch materials at $1550^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs with different refused coal ore composition of 0~35 %. We obtained a transparent and clear glass with high visible light transmittance value of 81~84%, thermal expansion coefficient of $5.39{\sim}5.61{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$ and softening point of $851{\sim}860^{\circ}C$. The glass fiber samples were also obtained through fiberizing equipment at $1150^{\circ}C$, and tested chemical resistance and tensile strength to evaluate the mechanical property as a reinforced glass fiber of composite material. As the result, we identified the properties of E-glass fiber by using refused coal ore are plenty good enough compare to that of normal E-glass without refused coal ore, and confirmed the possibility of refused coal ore as for the raw material of E-glass fiber.

Comparison of Free Amino Acids and Dipeptide Contents, Warner-Bratzler Shear Force and Sensory Property of Beef Jerky Manufactured with Different Drying Methods (건조방법에 따른 우육포의 유리아미노산 및 Dipeptide 함량, 물성 및 관능 특성 비교)

  • This study was conducted in order to investigate the effect of different drying methods on free amino acids and dipeptide contents, Warner-Bratzler shear force and sensory property of beef jerky products. The drying methods used for this study were sun-drying, shade-drying and hot air-drying methods. The sun-dried beef jerky had the highest free amino acids (277.45 mg/100 g) followed by shade-dried (206.43 mg/100 g) and hot air-dried (111.88 mg/100 g) ones, whereas the amount of dipeptides were the highest in the shade-dried beef jerky followed by sun-dried and hot air-dried ones. The fatty acid composition of the beef jerky was not shown any difference among the beef jerkies with 3 different drying methods. The color $L^*$-value of the beef jerky was lower in the hot-air dried, while the $a^*$-value was higher in the sun-dried one. The shade-dried jerky showed a lower $b^*$-value. The shear force of beef jerky was lower when it was either sun-dried or shade-dried than when it was hot air-dried. Sensory evaluation revealed that hot air-dried beef jerky scored lower than the sun-dried and shade-dried ones (p<0.05). Therefore, using either the sun drying or shade drying methods is more desirable than using the hot air drying method when manufacturing beef jerky for superior physicochemical qualities.

Extractive Nitrogenous Constituents of Anchovy Sauce and their Quality Standardization (멸치액젓의 맛성분조성(成分組成) 및 품질표준화(品質標準化)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • Extractive nitrogen, free amino acids, oligopeptides, nucleotides and related compounds, quaternary ammonium bases, and guanidino compounds were analyzed to evaluate quality of anchovy sauce. The commercial products contained low proximate composition, extractive nitrogen and other extractive components, than the experimentally prepared anchovy sauce. Both samples, commercial products and experimentally prepared anchovy sauce, were rich in free amino acids, such as glutamic acid, leucine, alanine, lysine, and aspartic acid. The extractive nitrogenous components which consist of total nucleotides and related compounds, total free amino acids, methionine, isoleucine, valine, taurine, tyrosine, histidine, leucine, aspartic acid, cystine, and lysine, showed significant correlation(p<0.01) with extractive nitrogen. Possibly, seven kinds of free amino acids such as methionine, isoleucine, valine, taurine, tyrosine, histidine, and leucine, might be recommend as quality indices of standardization for anchovy sauce.

Extractive Nitrogenous Constituents and Their Monthly Variation of Fresh Laver Porphyra dentata (잇바디돌김의 함질소 엑스성분조성 및 월별변동)

  • In order to investigate the composition and monthly variation of extractive nitrogenous components in the laver Porphyra dentata cultured at the south coast of Korea, the fresh laver was analyzed separately for the amounts of free amino acids, combined amino acids, ATP and its related compounds, and quaternary ammonium basis in fresh laver were measured. The extractive nitrogen contents of fresh laver extracts were 760~870 mg/100g (dry basis). Twenty-seven to thirty-one kinds of free amino acids were detected in the laver extracts and their total amounts were 2,404~3,966 mg/100g (on dry basis). The laver extracts showed rich in free amino acids such as alanine, taurine, glutamic acid, glutamine and aspartic acid. Sixteen to twenty-three kinds of combined amino acids were detected in the extracts and their total amounts were 1,429~2,692 mg/100g (on dry basis). Proline, glutamic acid, glycine, phosphoserine, serine were the amin combined amino acids in the extracts. The amounts of ATP and related compounds were 73.3~94.4 mg/100 g (2.04~4.43 $\mu$mol/g, on dry basis). Homarine and trigonelline were detected in all specimens but $\beta$-alaninebetaine, ${\gamma}$-butyrobetaine were found in some. Small amounts of trimethylamine were detected in all samples. Free and combined amino acids were occupying almost 90% of extractive nitrogen. Most of free and combined amino acids showed a marked monthly variation with a maximum in January and March, and a minimum in February and April. The fresh laver P. dentata did not differ much from the fresh laver P. yezoensis in qualitative com-position of extractive components, but their contents were generally low level.

  • A fresnoite glass-ceramics has been investigating considerably because of the second order nonlinearity as well as its permanent optical nonlinearity. However, the chemical compositions of transparent glass-ceramics examined in the previous studies have been limited to adjust the composition close to fresnoite stoichiometrically. In this study, to investigate the effect of strontium ions in glass-ceramics on second order nonlinearity, $K_2O-TiO_2-SiO_2$ (KTS) glasses soaked in molten $Sr(NO_3)_2$ were prepared. Crystalline phases of the soaked glasses were measured by X-ray diffraction (XRD) as soaking times and additional heat treatment. The exchange of strontium ions into the glass was verified by Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). And the phenomena of second order harmonic generation (SHG) was observed using Nd-YAG laser.

Amorphous Chalcogenide Solids Doped with Rare-Earth Element : Fluorescence Lifetimes and the Glass Structural Changes (희토류 원소 첨가 비정질 찰코지나이드 : 형광 수명과 유리 구조 변화의 관계)

  • Lifetime of excited electronic states inside the 4f configuration of rare-earth elements embedded in chalcogenide glasses is very sensitive to medium-range structural changes of the host glasses. We have measured lifetimes of the 1.6$\mu\textrm{m}$ emission originating from Pr$\^$3+/ : ($^3$F$_3$, $^3$F$_4$)\longrightarrow$^3$H$_4$ transition in amorphous chalcogenide samples consisting of Ge, Sb, and Se elements. The measured lifetimes fumed out to have their maximum at the mean coordination number of -2.67, which arises accordingly from structural changes of the host glasses from 2 dimensional layers to 3 dimensional networks. This new finding supports that the so-called topological structure model together with chemically ordered network model is adequate to explain relationship between the emission properties of rare-earth elements and the medium-range structures of amorphous chalcogenide hosts with a large covalent bond nature. Thus, it is validated to predict site distribution and lifetime of rare-earth elements doped in chalcogenide glasses simply based on their mean coordination number.

  • In this study, BNT($BaO-Nd_{2}O_3-TiO_2$) and $70P_{2}O_5-5B_{2}O_3-(25-x)BaO-xNa_{2}O$ glass-ceramic composites were fabricated and investigated in order to apply for low temperature cofired ceramic. The prepared BNT based glass-ceramic composites were sintered at $800{\sim}950^{\circ}C$ with the glass fit contents ranging from 10 to $15\;wt\%$. The properties such as sintering and dielectric property were investigated in the ceramic compositions according to the phosphate glass frit. The dielectric constant was varied between 10 to 40 and shrinkage rate was increased according to increasing glass frit.

Effect of CaO on the antibacterial property of zinc borosilicate glasses (Zinc borosilicate 유리의 CaO 첨가에 따른 항균력 개선 효과 검증)

  • In this study, antibacterial glasses were developed by the addition of CaO in ZnO-Na2O-B2O3-SiO2 glass system. The effect of the addition of CaO on the thermal properties, dissolution properties, surface zeta potential and antibacterial activity were analyzed. Differential thermal analysis (DTA) analysis was performed to analyze the thermophysical properties of 30ZnO-xCaO-20Na2O-30B2O3-(20-x)SiO2 (x = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 mol%). It was confirmed that the glass transition temperature decreased as the CaO content increased. The amount of released Zn2+ ions and surface zeta potential of glass samples increased with increasing CaO concentration. For these reasons, the antibacterial activity was dramatically improved. By the addition of CaO, we could successfully develop an antibacterial glass with 99.9 % antibacterial activity against both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.

  • Display 소재로서 유전체나 격벽재 실링재로 사용되고 있는 frit는 PbO를 주성분으로 갖는 유리가 사용되고 있다. PbO 성분이 함유된(50$\sim$85%) 구성소재는 최근 RoHS 나 WEEE 등의 환경규제 실행에 직면해 있으며, 대체재료의 개발을 위한 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다 PbO 성분을 대체할 성분으로는 $Bi_2O_3$ 계, BaO-ZnO 계, $P_2O_5$ 계 등의 성분이 주요성분으로 이루어져 있으며, PbO 성분을 함유한 유리의 저융점, 저유전율, 고 투과율, 내산성, 내전압, 팽창계수 matching 등의 특성들에 부합되는 재료를 개발하기 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 SnO-$P_2O_5$ 계 유리 조성을 선택하여 $R_2O_3$의 치환 및 용융분위기의 조절에 따른 저융점 유리로서의 특성과 효과에 대하여 고찰하였다.

  • Coral damselfish (demoiselle), Chromis notatus, has been one of the most tasty sea foods in Jeju-Do, Korea, The free amino acids in tile extracts of Chromis notatus were analysed by amino acid autoanalyser. In the extracts, taurine, lysine, glycine and alanine were abundant, holding $30.3\%,\;22.7\%,\;16.0\%\;,\;11.5\%$ of total amino acid content, respectively and followed threonine, glutamic acid and serine, in order. While methionine, histidine, leucine, isoleucine, valine were poor and aspartic acid and proline were trace in content.
