Fabrication of Pb Free Solder Glass for Electronic Packaging Application (전자 패키징용 Pb Free 저융점 유리의 제조)

  • 전자 패키징에 적용 가능한 저융점 유리 중에서 납성분이 포함되어 있지 않는 Bi계 유리의 연구를 행하였다. 기판과의 일체화를 위한 유리의 응용으로, 소자와의 반응 억제와 열응력 완화를 위해 유리의 저융점화 및 열팽창계수를 제어하였다. 본 연구에서 제조된 Bi계 유리는 DTA와 TMA의 열분석을 통해 5$50^{\circ}C$ 부근에서 연화점이 있고, 열팽창계수는 7.52~12.09$\times$$10^{-6}$/$^{\circ}C$의 범위였으며, 비유전율은 9~13이었다. 본 연구의 납성분을 포함되어 있지 않는 유리조성은 우수한 내산성을 나타내었다.

Development and Physical Properties of a Glass-ceramic from Fly Ash of Power Station (발전소의 석탄재로부터 결정화유리의 제초 및 물리적 특성)

  • Coal fly ash, produced from a power plant in Korea was used for the production of glass-ceramics and the physical properties of glass-ceramics were evaluated. CaO and TiO$_2$ were added into the fly ash during the melting process to reduce the viscosity of molten glass and to induce internal crystallization of glass, respectively. Glass-ceramic was produced through a single stage heat treatment (at 950∼1050$\^{C}$ for 37∼240 min) after preparing glass (iota fly ash powder. As a result, a new tiny rod type crystals (a=7.4480, b=10.7381, c=4.3940 A, $\alpha$=94.9, $\beta$=98.6, γ=108.5°) was found in the glass-ceramics, which showed attractive mechanical properties, high hardness (7.1∼7.6 GPa) and wear resistance (by erosion test). Thus a glass-ceramic produced from thermal power plant fly ash and cell as a source for CaO exhibits a suitable treatment for the recycling and exploitation of waste materials and would be acceptable for a new application far building materials.

Hydroxyapatite Formation on Crystallized Bioactive Glass Coat on Alumina (알루미나에 코팅된 생체활성유리의 결정화에 따른 수산화 아파타이트 형성)

  • Alumina glazed with a bioactive glass reacted in Simulated Body Fluids(SBF) to investigate the behavior of hydroxyapatite formation on the glass coat layer. Various crystalline phases were found depending on the firing temperatures when the bioactive glass coat was heat-treated. The glass coat was crystallized into ${\beta}$-wollastonite and apatite when fired at 1100$^{\circ}C$, and ${\alpha}$-wollastonite and apatite when fired at 1200$^{\circ}C$. Those samples reacted in SBF, and it is observed that hydroxyapatite developed on the surface of the crystallized glaze. Its formation was much easier in the sample with ${\alpha}$-wollastonite than with ${\beta}$-wollastonite. This is because that the ${\alpha}$-wollastonite dissolves more easily than ${\beta}$-wollastonite does in SBF.

  • 한전 원자력 환경기술원에서는 중ㆍ저준위 방사성폐기물 유리화 기술의 상용화 가능성을 입증하기 위한 유리화 실증설비를 건설하여 시험 중에 있으며 이 유리화 기술은 유도 가열식 저온로(Cold Crucible Melter, CCM)에 폐기물을 투입하는 기술로서 폐기물의 부피 축소 효과와 더불어 최종 고화물로 생성되는 폐기물의 침출율이 매우 낮은 장점을 지닌다. 이와 같은 유리화 공정은 기존의 소각처리에서와 같이 폐기물의 열적 산화과정에 의해 유해오염가스와 입자성 물질이 발생된다. 따라서 이를 처리하기 위해배기체 처리공정(Off Gas Treatment System, OGTS)을 설치하여 환경 배출기준(SO$_2$300ppm, NO$_2$ 200ppm, CO 600ppm, HCI 50ppm, 분진 100mg/Nm$^3$ 등)을 만족하도록 하였고 특히 입자성 물질은 후단 OGTS나 배관내 침적으로 인한 방사성 오염을 막기 위해 CCM 후단에서 효율적으로 제거되어야만 한다. Fabrication and Optical Characterization of Glass-ceramics for IR Reflector (적외선 반사체용 결정화유리 제조 및 광학적 특성평가)

  • In this study, glass-ceramics containing cordierite(2MgO$.$2Al$_2$O$_3$5SiO$_2$) as a major crystalline phase was prepared from MAS (MgO-Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$) glass system for the application to reflector. Glasses prepared with addition of TiO$_2$as a nucleating agent were crystallized by two-step heat treatment of nucleation and crystal growth. Then nucleation and crystal growth behavior were investigated and the influence of heat treatment schedule on the nature of crystal phases and the diffuse reflectance spectrum was investigated. As a result, cordierite and rutile were precipitated as a major crystalline phases for the glass-ceramics with the nucleation at 750$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours and then crystallization at 1100$^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours, and this glass-ceramics showed the reflectance over 90% in 570∼2500nm specturm region.

  • Dense glass-ceramics for low firing temperature substrate were prepared by addition of CeO2 flux to the glass of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system. Glass powders were fabricated by melting at 150$0^{\circ}C$ and ball milling. Glass powder compacts were sintered at 800~100$0^{\circ}C$ for 3h. The crystallization and the shrinkage behaviors of glass powder compacts were analyzed by XRD, DTA and TMA. The shrinkage of glass powder compact increased with increasing the amount of CeO2. Because the softening temperature decreased and the crystallization temperature increased with increasing the amount of CeO2. Apparently, addition of CeO2 prevented formation of $\mu$-cordierite phase from the glass-ceramics and improved formation of $\alpha$-cordierite phase. Therefore crystallization properties were enhanced.

  • In order to simultaneously vitrify the ton Exchange Resin(IER) and Dry Active Waste(DAW) generated from the Nuclear Power Plants, a vitrification pilot test was conducted using an induction cold crucible melter. The PCT result evaluating the chemical durability of the vitrified from showed that the final glass was more durable than the benchmark glass. Liquidus temperature for the final vitrified form was 1048 K(775$\^{C}$) fur heat treatment experiments. The value of the compressive strength for the vitrified form was ninety times higher than the regulation limit, 34 kg/㎠. The glasses on bottom, middle and top of the CCM were homogeneous with no secondary phase. The precipitation of the magnetic metal phase was able to be avoided by simultaneously fEeding of DAW with IER containing strongly reducing organics. Volume reduction factor of 74 was achieved through the vitrification Pilot test for mixed waste.

  • For the fabrication of low temperature cofirable glass/ceramic with high dielectric constant, crystallizing glass [$SiO_2-TiO_2-RO (RO:BaO, CaO:SrO)$] was formed. The glass/ceramic composites were made by mixing this glass and alumina ceramic as filler, and its characteristics was investigated. With this glass compositon, it was possible to fabricate the glass which could be crystallized under $900^{\circ}C$. And it was found that the crystallizing temperature was changed in accordance with the composition of RO in glass. By adding $Bi_2O_3$ as flux, using $Al_2O_3$ as filler and sintering at $860^{\circ}C$, low temperature cofirable glass/ceramic with high dielectric constant was fabricated. The density of that composites was 3.96 g/$\textrm{cm}^3$, dielectric constant was 17 and Q. f was 600.

  • Residual stress measurements were made for cylindrical glass rods to compare experimental results with the calculated values obtained by Instant Freezing Model. According to the photoelastic measurements, the stress ratio of surface compression and center tension was increased from 1.4 to 2.0 as the heat-treatment temperature was lowered, the fictitious forzen temperature was found to be closer to the heat-treatment temperature and the fictitious coefficient was increased.
