Relations between Physical Parameters and Improvement of Mechanical Properties in Jute Fiber Green Composites by Maleic Anhydride Coupler (Jute fiber Green Composite의 커플링제에 의한 물리적 인자의 변화와 기계적 특성 향상)

  • In order to improve the mechanical properties of jute fiber/polypropylene(PP) composites, the property change with the addition of a coupling agent, maleic anhydride polypropylene(MAPP) was examined experimentally. The maleated coupler acts as an intermediate to chemically connect the polar nature of the fiber and non-polar nature of the polyolefin polymer resin. Furthermore, the decrease in viscosity of the resin which results from the melting point reduction by the MAPP, leads to an increase of contact area with the fiber interface. We discussed the improvement of the PP composite blend of the maleated coupler with the 80mm jute long fiber mat in conjunction with the change of physical parameters in the thermoplastic resin. We confirmed the extent of contribution to the mechanical physical enhancement by using the following parameters: melting flow index(MI) and viscosity, contact angle, thickness of the composite, interfacial shear strength and morphology observation etc. Especially it was observed that the MI and viscosity, MAPP mixture had a very strong relationship with the tensile and flexural strength and modulus, and interfacial shear strength(IFSS).

  • Spray characteristics of liquid jets in crossflow, which can be observed in the liquid jet injection system of a gas turbine or ramjet engine, were experimentally investigated. By measuring liquid jet penetration in the case of single orifice and double orifice injectors, the experimental formula for jet penetration was modified to consider penetration distances greater than that considered in a previous study. The changes in spray characteristics resulting from changes in the liquid jet and crossflow pressure, including SMD and jet disintegration, were carefully studied. Specifically, the jet penetration was measured for different injector shapes, and in the case of a double orifice injector, the penetration of the rear orifice jet was found to be greater by approximately 20% ($L_h$ = 4 mm) compared to that in the case of a single orifice injector because of the influence of the front orifice.

  • The Present study uses non-Newtonian simulant gel propellant mixed by Water, Carbopol 941, and NaOH solution in order to analyze the gel propellant flow behavior. Rheological data have been measured and obtained prior to the analysis of flow characteristics where water-gel propellant as well as water-gel propellant with $Al_2O_3$ nano particles are both used. The critical Dean number were examined by numerical simulation of gel propellant in the U-shape duct flow. It is found that though gel-nano propellants have higher apparent viscosity, the critical Dean number did not showed notable difference with respect to the water-gel propellant. It is believe that this is due to the fact that the power law index of both propellants have close value, as was demonstrated by Fellouah et al.[1]

  • 감압비등에 의한 미립화는 더 미세한 직경의 액적을 얻을 수 있고, 분무각이 증가하며, 더 좋은 혼합특성을 갖는 다는 점에서 단순 압력식 미립화와 차이가 난다. 감압비등이란 과열된 액체를 포화 압력 이하의 대기 중으로 분사하여 급격한 비등에 의해 이루어지는 미립화이다. 본 연구는 금속 연료를 이용한 추진기관의 산화제인 물 공급기술에 감압비등과정을 이용한 와류분무를 적용시키기 위해 수행됐다. 분열길이와 같은 거시적 특성은 Charge-Couple Device(CCD) 카메라를 이용해 측정하였고, Sauter Mean Diameter(SMD)와 SMD분포와 같은 미시적 특성은 Global Sizing Velocimetry(GSV) 시스템을 이용해 측정했다. 실험은 압력과 온도, 대류 속도를 변화시키며 진행했다.

  • In this work a numerical study to find the characteristics of the internal flow and mixing process has been conducted in a static mixer used in the system of catalytic combustor of the fuel cell power plant. After introducing the model description and final governing equations the present numerical approach is applied to the analysis of static mixer, which may have one or more helical elements inside the circular tube by changing such various parameters as incoming mass flow rates and the number of helical elements. The results show that although the static mixer is efficient in mixing fuel and air, more optimization processes are required to achieve the appropriate mixing characteristics in front of the honeycomb type catalytic combustor used in the MCFC power plant

  • We investigated gas residence time and mixing characteristics due to various swirl numbers generated by normal injection of secondary air to a lab-scale cylinderical combustor. The residence time was estimated by measuring the temporal pressure difference which was caused by deposition of test particles on a filter media after the injection by a syringe. The mixing characteristics were evaluated by standard deviation value of test gas concentration at different measuring points. The test gas concentration was detected by a gas analyzer. The swirl number of $20{\sim}30$ for ${\theta}=5^{\circ}$ caused long residence time enough to improve mixing characteristics. Numerical calculations were also carried out to understand physical meanings of the experimental results.

  • A numerical simulation is carried out mixed convection in horizontal channel with a heat source from below of rectangular cavity. Finite volume method was employed for the discretization and PISO algorithm was used for calculating pressure term. The parameters governing the problem are the Reynolds number ($10^{-2}{\leq}Re{\leq}50$), the Rayleigh number ($10^3{\leq}Ra{\leq}2.06{\times}10^5$), the Prandtl number ($0.72{\leq}Pr{\leq}909$), the aspect ratio ($0.5{\leq}AR=W/H{\leq}2$) and the angle of inclination ($0^{\circ}{\theta}60^{\circ}$). Mean Nusselt number distributions were obtained and effect of Reynolds number, Rayleigh number and Prandtl number on mixed convection in the horizontal channel with rectangular cavity were investigated.

  • In this paper, we study effect of the factors, participating in the combustion as the initial conditions, such as the flow characteristics of the mixture and the initial temperature, pressure and equivalence ratio in the chamber on the ignitability of the mixture, the combustion duration and the maximum combustion-pressure. The experiment was performed in a constant-volume combustion chamber, with turbulent flow inside, equivalent to the actual engine at TDC. The present experiment utilizes three devices which differ from each other in the distribution and the magnitude of discharge energy.

  • The mixing characteristics of a multiple transverse injection system in a scramjet combustor were studied with numerical methods. The distance among injectors on mixing characteristics were investigated. The three-dimensional Wavier-Stokes equations including k-w SST turbulence model were solved. It was shown that the mixing characteristics of a multiple transverse injection system were very different from those of a single and a dual injection system; the rear injection flow was strongly influenced by blocking effect due to the momentum flux of the front injection flow and thus had higher expansion and penetration than the front injection flow. The multiple injection system had higher mixing rate, higher penetration but had more losses of stagnation pressure than the single injection system.

  • This study investigates the flow characteristics of propane-air premixed flames on AC electric field using the Schlieren method. A voltage was applied to the ring electrode and the burner was grounded to form an electric field, and the applied voltage was fixed at 16 kV (Vpp). Results show that under the application of AC electric fields, flow around the flame oscillated only at frequencies below 50 Hz, and no oscillation was observed above this frequency range. Flame height oscillated with frequency in the range of 25 to 300 Hz, with frequency doubling observed in the range of 25 to 150 Hz. The flammability limit increased with frequency up to 250 Hz, but in the high-frequency range above 250 Hz, the flammability limit did not increased and converged.
