Flow Analyses for the Improvement of Uniform Distribution at LOx Manifold of a $30\;ton_f$ Full-scaled Combustor (30톤급 실물형 연소기 산화제 매니폴드 유동해석을 통한 유량 균일성 개선)

  • Flow analyses have been performed to investigate the uniformity of propellant flow through the oxidizer manifold of a 30 tonf full-scaled combustor. Injectors were simulated as porous medium layers of equivalent pressure drops. The uniformity of oxidizer propellant has been analyzed for various diameters of holes in vertical/horizontal distributors and configurations of oxidizer inlet to propose an improved design solution. It has been proven that the mass flow uniformity were improved by adjusting the holes in vertical/horizontal distributors.

  • Flow analyses have been performed to investigate the uniformity of propellant flow through the fuel and oxidizer manifolds of a full-scaled gas generator for a pump-fed liquid rocket engines. Injectors were simulated as porous medium layers having equivalent pressure drops. The uniformity of propellants has been analyzed for 3 fuel rings and 3 injector head configurations. The mixture ratio distribution at the exit of injectors has been estimated from the mass flow rates of fuel and oxidizer. The best configuration of fuel ring and injection head was selected through these flow analyses.

  • We investigated the temperature uniformity in an anode-supported solid oxide fuel cell, using the open source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) toolbox, OpenFOAM. Numerical simulation was performed in three different flow paths, i.e., co-flow, counter-flow, and cross-flow paths. Gas flow in a porous electrode was calculated using effective diffusivity while considering the effect of interconnect rib. A lumped internal resistance model derived from a semi-empirical correlation was implemented for the calculation of electrochemical reaction. The result showed that the counter-flow path displayed the most uniform temperature distribution.

  • The effects of argon gas flow on the axial temperature gradient near the interface, the oxygen concentration, and the radial oxygen uniformity was investigated for 8-inch CZ silicon growth. As argon flow rate was increased, the temperature gradient was increased in the crystal near the crystavmelt interface and the oxygen content in the crystal was decreased. But the radial oxygen uniformity was deteriorated. It was found that argon flow is one of the important growing parameters to affect the quality of crystals such as oxygen content and uniformity.

  • Flow in the oxidizer manifold of a liquid rocket combustor has been analysed using an open source CFD toolbox, OpenFOAM. The applicability of OpenFOAM to the problems with complex geometries involving porous media zones for simulating the pressure drop induced by the injectors has been evaluated by performing turbulent, incompressible steady-state flow analysis. The usefulness and applicable area of the OpenFOAM as a design evaluation and analysis tool will be confirmed and enlarged by further evaluation with various computational cases representing major physical phenomena in rocket combustion devices.

  • 유동층 열교환기 (Fluidized Bed Heat Exchanger; FBHE) 는 온도 균일성이라는 유동층의 특징을 이용하여 적당한 전열면적을 갖는 열교환관을 층 내 설치하여 일정한 양의 열을 전열시키는 것으로, 최근 순환유동층 연소로의 scale-up 을 통한 열용량 증대와 함께 고온의 재순환물질로부터 열을 회수, 연소로의 온도제어 및 열회수율의 극대화를 얻고자 재순환부에 연결하여 사용하고 있다. 또한, 가압순환유동층의 개발과 더불어 유효열전달 면적의 증대를 통한 상대적인 연소로 소형화를 위해 채택되고 있다. 특히, 유동층 열교환기는 전체 공정에서 20-60% 의 열을 회수할 수 있어, 열전달에 있어 매우 중요한 역할을 차지한다.(중략)

  • The injection uniformity of the fuel manifold in a liquid rocket engine has been analyzed with dividing plates to improve the cooling performance at the face plate. Three dimensional computational fluid dynamics analysis has been performed to compare the injection uniformity for 5 candidate designs and has been verified to compare with the measured data for the optimal manifold design. For the case I and II, the coolant mass flux increases as the whole working fluid is enforced to flow under the dividing plate. The injection uniformity decreases due to the variation of mass flux at the end of dividing plate and the concentration of mass flow rate at the center of manifold. However case III and IV have uniform injection performance due to reduced mass flux concentration as the coolant can flow along both upper passage and lower passage of the dividing plate. Among the candidate designs, case IV is thought to be the optimal dividing plate with regard to cooling performance and injection uniformity.

  • 유동층 건조법은 다공판으로 된 베드 위에 피건조물을 두고 아래쪽에서 열풍을 보내어 열풍속에서 재료를 부유시켜 열풍과 혼합함으로써 건조되는 방식으로 분체의 건조에 유효한 건조방법으로 알려져 있다. 열 및 물질 전달이 상당히 커서 건조가 빠르게 일어나고 온도가 균일하며 균일한 건조가 가능하다. 또한 건조장치의 처리용량이 비교적 크고 장치의 구조가 단순하여 건조장치의 경제성과 신뢰성이 우수하다.(중략)

  • The flow pattern at the inlet of the catalyst layer in a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system is one of the key parameters influencing the performance of the denitrification process. In the curved diffusing parts between the ammonia injection grids and the catalyst layers, guide vanes are installed to improve flow uniformity. In the present study, a numerical simulation has been performed to investigate the effect of the geometrical configuration of the guide vanes on the aerodynamic characteristics of a denitrification facility. This application has been made to the existing SCR process in a large-scaled coal-fired power plant. The flow domain to be solved covers the whole region of the flow passages from the exit of the ammonia injection gun to the exit of the catalyst layers. ANSYS-Fluent was used to calculate the three-dimensional steady viscous flow fields with the proper turbulence model fitted to the flow characteristics. The root mean square of velocity and the pressure drop inside the flow passages were chosen as the key performance parameters. Four types of guides vanes were proposed to improve the flow quality compared to the current configuration. The numerical results showed that the type 4 configuration was the most effective at improving the aerodynamic performance in terms of flow uniformity and pressure loss.
