Technology Trends to High Efficiency Motors : Focused on Induction Motor (고효율 전동기 기술 동향 : 유도기 중심으로)

  • Minimum Energy Performance Standard(MEPS) has been adapted in Korea since 2008. For at least 37 kW, IE3 efficiency class motors are now mandatory in Korea. IE4 level regulation is expected in a few years. Foreign companies are already selling IE4 class motors in the market, and the discussions on IE5 have already started. The efficiency standard of variable speed motors is scheduled for publication shortly. Recently, discussions are now beginning to prepare for IE5 in Korea. In this paper, author reviews the policies associated with a high efficent electric motors by reference to both domestic and international standards, and reviews the research direction to prepare for IE5.

Analysis and Design of the Single-phase Line Start Permanent Magnet Motor Considering Overhang Effect (오버행 효과를 고려한 단상 유도동기전동기의 특성해석 및 설계)

  • This paper shows the characteristic analysis of single-phase line start permanent magnet (LSPM) motors considering the overhang structure. To achieve the low-cost design of an LSPM motor, the overhang structure is adapted for the rotor with a constraint of a fixed magnet volume. To obtain the dynamic and steady performance of the motor, the circuit parameters are extracted using the 3D-static FEM(Finite Element Method) and the d-q equivalent circuit is used. The performance of the model with overhang is compared with the conventional model without overhang on the condition that both models have a fixed volume for the permanent magnet.

  • This paper examines an design of double-barrier rotor structure for improving the efficiency performance in a single-phase line-start permanent magnet(LSPM) motor. By utilizing the advantages of double-barrier rotor design that by increasing reluctance torque generation to compensate magnet torque production, the copper loss reduction is achieved. The optimal approach of response surface methodogy(RSM) is performed for determining a optimum double-barrier rotor structure. The improving of efficiency performance is confirmed by finite element method(FEM) and test.

  • This paper deals with cost reduction design of a single-phase line-start permanent magnet (LSPM) motor. The characteristic analysis according to the change of quantity of permanent magnet(PM) is examined by d-and q-axis equivalent circuit. The motor parameters which are satisfied with efficiency and maximum torque are determined by the characteristic map obtained by d-and q-axis equivalent circuit analysis. And then the geometric shape design using optimization methodology is performed by finite element method (FEM).

  • This paper deals with the loss distribution analysis of 250 kW traction induction motor using a coupled transient finite element method (FEM) and Preisach modeling, which is presented to analyze the characteristics under the effect of saturation and hysteresisloss. The focus of this paper is the efficiency evaluation relative to hysteresis loss, copper loss, etc. on the basis of speed condition a 250 kW Traction Induction Motor. Computer simulation and experimental result for the efficiency using dynamometer show the propriety of the proposed method.

System consists of digital input block, digital ouput block, ADC block, protection block, motor control block and PWM block.   • In this paper, diagnosis for 85 high voltage induction motors which have operated for more than 20 years in 18 wide area water supply offices were applied and the results of diagnosis were analysed. Furthermore, main factors that would be affecting rotor defects were selected and correlations between dependent variables which was magnitude for sideband frequency on current during operation and independent variables such as starting characteristic, operating time, number of operation, load factor, maker, rotation speed, capacity were analysed. It was clear that factors including starting characteristic, number of operation, maker, rotation speed caused break by correlation analysis. From this, regression equation was deduced through regression analysis. Based on suggested regression equation, it is applied usefully that we can estimate the condition of rotor without onsite diagnosis and plan the schedule of diagnosis.

  • Monitoring of the cutting force signals in cutting process has been well emphasized in machine tool communities. Although the cutting force can be directly measured by a tool dynamometer, this method is not always feasible because of high cost and limitations in setup. In this paper an indirect cutting force monitoring system is developed so that the cutting force in turning process is estimated based on a AC spindle drive model. This monitoring system considers the cutting force as a disturbance input to the spindle drive and estimates the cutting force based on the inverse dynamic model. The inverse dynamic model represents the dynamic relation between the cutting force, the motor torque and the motor power. The proposed monitoring system is realized on a CNC lathe and its estimation performance is evaluated experimentally.

  • The single phase induction motor(SPIM) with two windings, main and auxiliary winding, is widely used due to ruggedness, low maintenance and simplicity of construction. There are several ways of starting single phase induction motor. The most common method is to use centrifugal switch that is connected in series with a capacitor. But the centrifugal switch that is the external starting system has many problems. In this paper, we use triac to overcome defects that happen by centrifugal switch, Also we used inductor that connected with main winding to get a gate trigger voltage signal. Experiments are focused on a capacitor starling single phase induction motor.

  • LIM have mainly different point considering rotary induction motor, that is end effect. In this paper described that, end effect, adding to the rotary induction motor, They can be designed because of affects magnetizing inductance and series resistance in the d-axis circuit. After LIM modeling, using SVPWM, apply to vector control this model. We can verify feasibility of field onented control technology can control speed by simulation.
