Current soil remediation principles for toxic metals have some limitations even though they vary with different technologies. An alternative technology that transforms hazardous substances into nonhazardous ones would be environmentally beneficial. Objective of this research was to assess optimum conditions for Cr(VI) reduction in soils as influenced by ZVI(Zero-Valent Iron), organic matter and moisture content. The reduction ratio of Cr(VI) was increased from 37 to 40% as organic matter content increased from 1.07 to 1.75%. In addition, Cr(VI) concentration was reduced as soil moisture content increased, but the direct effect of soil moisture content on Cr(VI) reduction was less than 5% of the Cr(VI) reduction ratio. However, combined treatment of ZVI(5%), organic matter(1.75%) and soil moisture(30%) effectively reduced the initial Cr(VI) to over 95% within 5 days and nearly 100% after 30 days by increasing oxidation of ZVI and concurrent reduction of Cr(VI) to Cr(III). The overall results demonstrated that ZVI was effective in remediating Cr(VI) contaminated soils, and the efficiency was synergistic with the combined treatments of soil moisture and organic matter.

Existing composting system was improved to have a high performance for organic degradation, deodorization and energy reduction. Compared with conventional devices, this developed system uses the heat recovered from platinum catalytic tower by three times heat exchange in which 65% of exhaust gas was recirculated. Evaporation of water was made easy by maintaining negative pressure in entire system. It was possible for reaction to be maintained steadily by microorganism agent. The optimum mixing volume ratio of garbage to sawdust was 15:1 contrary to 20:1 in conventional one. Moreover, aerobic condition was maintained efficiently. Effects obtained by using a inner circulation system were as follows. It was possible to reduce the ammonia causing offensive odor and verified that consumption of electricity cut down to 1/3 with reduction of exhaust gas inflowing. According to this inner circulation, the optimum air flow was $0.44m^3$ to 100kg treatment capacity. The electricity consumption was changed in proportion to inflowing air volume.

The study was executed to evaluate the agricultural utilization of phyllite as composting bulking agent in pig manure. The effects of the composted pig manure were verified by adopting the mixture of 10% phyllite and 20% saw dust(PSPC 10) and 20% phyllite and 10% saw dust(PSPC 20). The pig manure mixed with 30% saw dust was used as a control(PSC). However C/N ratio was very decreased because humus was rapidly progressed at PSPC 20 plot during the composting. Also, $NH_4{^+}-N$, $NO_3{^-}-N$, pH and EC were quickly changed from after one week and CEC was the highest as $92cmol_c/kg$. And Total-N was hardly changed during the composting but total carbon was rapidly declined as processing compost. Therefore, the phyllite has positively showed comparing with others in the street as compost bulking agent and go ahead, it is concerned that this material should have to research and investigating, constantly.

Characteristics of hydrogen production from various food wastes in anaerobic batch reactors were evaluated to assess the energy potential of organic wastes. Organic wastes which were used in this study were scallion as vegetable, apple as fruit, rice as grain and pork as meat. Ultimate hydrogen yield of scallion, apple, rice and pork were 0.46, 0.47, 0.62 and $0.05mol\;H_2/mol\;hexose$, respectively. On the other hand, hydrogen production rates of scallion, apple, rice and pork were 0.013, 0.021, 0.014 and $0.005mol\;H_2/mol\;hexose/h$, respectively. These results indicated that anaerobic hydrogen fermentation from food waste except for meat was effective in removing organic material as well as producing renewable energy. Volatile fatty acids increased as hydraulic retention time was increased. In the hydrogen fermentation, acidification degree of rice was measured as the highest rate of 75.8% whereas pork was found as the lowest rate of 35.2%.

In this work, we investigated a low temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin film transistors fabrication process on polymer layers. Dehydrogenation and activation processes were performed by a furnace annealing at a temperature of $430^{\circ}C$ for 2 hr. The crystallization of amorphous silicon films was formed by excimer laser annealing (ELA) method. The p-type device performance, fabricated by polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) films, shows a very good performance with field effect mobility of $77cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ and on/off ratio current ratio > $10^7$. We believe that the poly-Si formed by a LTPS process may be well suited for fabrication of poly-Si TFTs for bendable panel displays such as AMOLED that require circuit integration.
The purpose of this study is to search the optimal solubilization technology which could be applied to sewage sludge, and is to find the characteristics of biological hydrogen production when the sludge treated by optimal method was used as a sole substrate. As a result of the test, treatment technology mixed with alkali and ultrasonic treatment was very powerful tool for treating sewage sludge with high solubilization, and its ratio and elution rate of organic material was 0.9 and 0.076 $min^{-1}$, respectively. When the sludge treated by above optimal technology was used, 4.4 ml $H_2/g$ VSS of hydrogen was produced. Finally, When the sludge treated by above optimal technology was used, 13.4 ml $H_2/g$ VSS of hydrogen was produced under optimum pH.

The efficacy of nitrifying sludge existed in biological nutrient removal process was examined for possible removal of endocrine disrupting chemical(EDC) in the effluent of wastewater treatment plant. Some of ammonia oxidizing bacteria causes ammonia oxidation mediated by ammonia monooxygenase(AMO) activity, which has low substrate specificity resulting in cometablic degradation of several chemicals. In this study, the removal of three model EDCs such as bisphenol A(BPA), nonylphenol(NP) and dibutyl phthalate(DBP) was studied in batch cultures using nitrifying sludge, BOD-oxidizing sludge with low nitrifying activity, and sterilized sludge. Nitrifying sludge showed higher initial removal rates in all batches of three EDCs when it was fed with ammonium as an energy source. The acclimation time was required for the removal of EDCs in batches using BOD-oxidizing sludge or nitritefed nitrifying sludge. That retardation seemed to attribute to the slow growth of cells using the EDCs while ammonium-fed nitrifying sludge could degrade EDCs through simultaneous cooxidation with ammonia oxidation. Sterilized sludge was also tested under the same conditions in order to find the contribution of physical adsorption to the removal of EDCs. About 10~20% of initial EDCs dose was removed when using sterilized sludge. Thus the biological activity is likely to play major role for the degradation of BPA, NP, and DBP rather than the physical adsorption from wastewater.

Theoretical maximum methane yield of glucose at STP (1 atm, $0^{\circ}C$) is 0.35 L $CH_4/g$ COD. However, most researched actual methane yields of anaerobic digester (AD) on lab scale is lower than theoretical ones. A wide range of them have been reported according to experiments methods and types of organic matters. Recent year, a MET (Microbial electrochemical technology) is a promising technology for producing sustainable bio energies from AD via rapid degradation of high concentration organic wastes, VFAs (Volatile Fatty Acids), toxic materials and non-degradable organic matters with electrochemical reactions. In this study, methane yields of food waste leachate and sewage waste sludge were evaluated by using BMP (Biochemical Methane Potential) and continuous AD tests. As the results, methane production volume from the anaerobic digester equipped with MET (AD + MET) was higher than conventional AD in the ratio of 2 to 3 times. The actual methane yields from all experiments were lower than those of theoretical value of glucose. The methane yield, however, from the AD + MET occurred similar to the theoretical one. Moreover, biogas compositions of AD and AD + MET were similar. Consequently, methane production from anaerobic digester with MET increased from the result of higher organic removal efficiency, while, further researches should be required for investigating methane production mechanisms in the anaerobic digester with MET.

The consumption of KimChi, which Korean are a favorite food, has dramatically increased by changes of life style and waste as by-products in KimChi factory. This study was conducted to evaluate an effect of compost of caster oil cake (COC) mixed with waste from KimChi factory (KWF) and its growth effect of lettuce. Treatments were consisted of 4 treatments as COC compost (60% COC+40% sawdust) as control, control+35% KWF (K-1), control+50% KWF (K-2), and control+65% KWF (K-3). Temperature, pH, O.M. and microbial phase of COC composts blended various ratios of KWF or free were unaffected. It was appeared that nitrogen content of KWF treatments was higher, but the ratio of organic matter and nitrogen was lower than the control. Although KWF treatments were acceptable compost under the guideline of Korean, NaCl content of K-3 was 1.91%, and it was very higher than that of others. In comparison with fresh weight and dry weight of lettuce, K-1 and K-3 were similar to control. These results indicated that the waste from KimChi factory was possible to use the composting raw blended materials below 35% mixtures.

In this study, a 3-stage biological aerated filter (BAF) system was proposed to enhance nitrogen removal in the treatment of low carbon to nitrogen ratio (C/N ratio) municipal wastewater. Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of dynamic-flow at the HRT of 6 h. Results of the long-term operation of 3-stage BAF systems showed that the dynamic-flow enabled the total nitrogen removal (T-N) removal efficiency of the system to be about 7 % higher than that of non-dynamic-flow system in treating domestic wastewater due to the more efficient use of organic substrates. The overall $NH_4$-N removal performance was stable during the operational period due to the unique system configuration where independent nitrification occurred. It was concluded that the 3-stage BAF system proposed in this study provided excellent performance in the removal of nitrogen by employing dynamic-flow and three columns functioning as sorption, denitrification and nitrification, respectively.
