  • Michael Williams, in his paper, rejects the wide-accepted view that Donald Davidson's radical interpretation is a truth conditional account of meaning, and suggests a claim that robust truth in fact does not play any role in Davidson's interpretation and thus interpretation can be in accord with the deflationary theory of truth. In this paper, I will first research the right understanding on the explanatory relations in radical interpretation between truth and meaning, and on that ground, will evaluate the adequacy of Williams' suggestion. My diagnosis is that the acceptability of Williams' idea depends on how we regard the several factors which are crucial for interpretation. Especially I will argue that whether truth condition is regarded as deflationary or inflationary makes difference to the way of understanding radical interpretation, hence the room for taking radical interpretation as deflationary can be in two different ways. Furthermore I will show the same argument can be applied to Williams' another claim that Paul Horwich's use theory of meaning is similar to Davidson's account.

  • Williams syndrome (WS) is a rare congenital disorder which is caused by microdeletion of approximately 1.6 MBP from the long arm of chromosome 7 at 7q11.23. It is characterized by cardiovascular anomalies, elfin face and mental retardation. The most typical oral signs in patient with WS are hypodontia, reduced mesio-distal dimensions both in the primary and permanent teeth, macroglossia, excessive interdental spacing, enamel hypoplasia and enamel hypomineralization. The majority of children with WS have mild to moderate mental retardation, generalized anxiety disorder, hyperactivity disorder and sensitivity to sounds. The purpose of this presentation is to describe dental treatment for a child with WS. A 9-year-old boy diagnosed with WS had caries on his first permanent molars. Because of the poor cooperation, these teeth were filled temporarily with glass ionomer, and treatment under general anesthesia was planned. Under general anesthesia, caries treatment of first permanent molar and extraction of primary molar was successfully performed and there was no postoperative complications related to general anesthesia. Open bite, hypodontia, excessive dental space, enamel hypoplasia, enamel hypomineralization were observed which were characteristic in WS.

  • The aim of this study is to find what architectural restoration and street-scaping conservation of early settlement in Virginia, which have processed on the style of 18th centuries. One of the settlements in Virginia was Williamsburg that located in the high land between Jamestown and Yorktown. In 1698, the capital of Virginia was moved from Jamestown for the safer environment. At that time they constructed the town like a small urban that had a straight-lined Duke Glocester Street, Georgian style buildings, and landscapes of 18th centuries. Before 1928 the village was flown into ruins, but Rector of the church, Dr. W.A.R. Goodwin, understood the value of reservation to restore the village as colonial architectural style that has an original figure. John Rockefeller Jr. has taken part in his restoration of colonial style of architecture and culture. This paper surveyed nine cases of buildings and srtreet-scape on Duke Glocester Street. Most of the buildings on the street have a proposition, balance, and equipment of Georgian architectural facade in 18th centuries. The conclusion has three points. First, the Williamsburg has been reserved as an early colonial settlement through the restoration of architecture and street-scape design. Second, main architectural style is a Georgian form that has a balance, proportion, and simplicity of facade. Also new buildings and additions of architecture have to keep 'Design Review Guideline of Colonial Williamsburg' in order to contribute the existing colonial buildings. Third, the main street-scape, Duke Glocester Street shows Georgian architecture and cultural life pattern with tradition.

  • The purpose of this study was to trace the development of Chintz pattern design through fashion history, and to focus on its application in modern times with special emphasis on filtered Chintz patterns. Chintz patterns use such motives as tree, animal, bird, and geometrical shapes, etc.. It reached the peak of its popularity with William Morris. His influence continued from the end of the 19th century through to the 20th century. Modern Chintz designs have been modified and diversified in different cultures through time, and such diversification & changes can be easily found in modern fashion. From previous studies and other related sources, we found that Chintz patterns were revived in modern fashion trends with some modification. We also discovered the importance of chintz pattern designs in ethnic and retro trends. Thus in conclusion, this study revealed the significance, flexibility, and lasting popularity of Chintz pattern designs in fashion history.

  • Williams syndrome is a rare congenital disorder with various physical abnormalities and characterized by facial, oral, and dental features. Individuals with Williams syndrome typically have eating disorders in the early childhood, which lead to prolonged night feeding. Prolonged night feeding is a risk factor for rampant dental caries. Williams syndrome is caused by the microdeletion of chromosome 7, resulting in elastin deficiency. Elastin is integral to cardiovascular health. Many patients with Williams syndrome have complex cardiovascular abnormalities that must be considered a part of dental management. Complications related to cardiovascular diseases may induce adverse effects such as dangerously elevated blood pressure. This may occur in patients during stressful dental treatment. In addition, characteristics of auditory hyperalgesia and anxiety disorders among patients with William syndrome, complicate receiving routine dental management. Therefore, dental treatment under sedation or general anesthesia may be preferable for patients with Williams syndrome; in particular, patients who are very uncooperative and/or needs extensive dental treatment. A thorough evaluation of each patient's physical condition is required before making decisions regarding dental treatment. Careful monitoring and preparation for emergencies are very important during and shortly after dental treatment under general anesthesia or sedation. Monitoring is critical until vital signs have stabilized and return to normal. A 28-month-old man diagnosed as having Williams syndrome, visited the Dental Hospital of ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$ University for the management of rampant dental caries. We reported on the management of this patient who had peripheral pulmonic stenosis, and received dental treatment under general anesthesia. We also reviewed the characteristics of Williams syndrome and discussed considerations for dental treatment under general anesthesia.
