A Numerically Controlled Oscillator for Multi-Carrier Channel Separation in Cdma2000 3X (Cdma2000 3X 다중 반송파 채널 분리용 수치 제어 발진기)

  • We propose a foe phase tuner and a rounding processor for a numerically controlled oscillator (NCO), yielding a reduced phase error in generating a digital sine waveform. By using the fine Phase tuner Presented in this paper, when the ratio of the desired sine wave frequency to the clock frequency is expressed as a fraction, an accurate adjustment in representing the fractional value can be achieved with simple hardware. In addition, the proposed rounding processor reduces the effects of phase truncation on the output spectrum. Logic simulation results of the NCO for multi-carrier channel separation in cdma2000 3X multi-carrier receive system using these techniques show that the noise spectrum and mean square error (MSE) are reduced by 8.68 dB and 5.5 dB, respectively compared to those of truncation method and 2.38 dB and 0.83 dB, respectively, compared to those of Paul's scheme.

  • The fully digital active array radar uses a wide beam for effective mission performance within a limited time. This paper presents a convex optimization algorithm that adjusts only the phase of an array element. First, the algorithm applies a semidefinite relaxation technique to relax the constraint and convert it to a convex set. Then, the constraint is set so that the amplitude is fixed to some extent and the phase is variable. Finally, the optimization is performed to minimize the sum of the eigenvalues obtained through eigenvalue decomposition. Compared to the application results of the existing genetic algorithm, the proposed algorithm is more effective in wide beam design for a fully digital active array radar.

A Study on New Broadband Phase Shifter using λ/8 Parallel Stubs (λ/8 병렬 스터브들을 이용한 새로운 광대역 위상 천이기에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a new broadband phase shifter to adjust the slope of dispersive phase characteristic for frequency of transmission network was proposed. The new fundamental network consists of a fixed main line with a length of λ/2 at the center frequency and two double stubs, each with a length of λ/8 at the center frequency, which are open and shorted, respectively, and which are shunted at the edge points of the main line. Characteristic impedances of the main line and two parallel double stubs are adjusted to produce a minimum phase error and to obtain an input and output match at the desired phase shift. Especially, the proposed structure is especially suitable for a broadband phase shifter with large phase shifts more than 90$^{\circ}$, and it is operated in the octave bandwidth. To verify the usefulness of a new broadband phase shifter, each 45$^{\circ}$-, 90$^{\circ}$-, 180$^{\circ}$-bit phase shifter and 3-bit phase shifter(45$^{\circ}$-phase step), which is cascaded in series, operated at the center frequency 3 GHz were designed, fabricated and experimented. The measured results were in very close agreement with the corresponding simulation results over the bandwidth of I/O impedance match and phase error for each phase shift.

A CMOS LC VCO with Differential Second Harmonic Output (차동 이차 고조파 출력을 갖는 CMOS LC 전압조정발진기)

  • A technique is presented to extract differential second harmonic output from common source nodes of a cross-coupled P-& N-FET oscillator. Provided the impedances at the common source nodes are optimized and the fundamental swing at the VCO core stays in a proper mode, it is found that the amplitude and phase errors can be kept within $0{\sim}1.6dB$ and $+2.2^{\circ}{\sim}-5.6^{\circ}$, respectively, over all process/temperature/voltage corners. Moreover, an impedance-tuning circuit is proposed to compensate any unexpectedly high errors on the differential signal output. A Prototype 5-GHz VCO with a 2.5-Hz LC resonator is implemented in $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS. The error signal between the differential outputs has been measured to be as low as -70 dBm with the aid of the tuning circuit. It implies the push-push outputs are satisfactorily differential with the amplitude and phase errors well less than 0.34 dB and $1^{\circ}$, respectively.

Design of a Low Phase Noise Voltage Tuned Planar Composite Resonator Oscillator Using SIW Structure (SIW 구조를 이용한 저 위상잡음 전압 제어 평판형 복합공진기 발진기 설계)

  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of a Voltage-tuned Planar Composite Resonator Oscillator(Vt-PCRO) with a low phase noise. The designed Vt-PCRO is composed of a resonator, two phase shifters, and an amplifier. The resonator is designed using a dual mode SIW(Substrate Integrated Waveguide) resonator and has a group delay of about 40 nsec. Of the two phase shifters (PS1 and PS2), PS1 with a phase shift of $360^{\circ}$ is used for the open loop gain to satisfy oscillation condition without regard to the electrical lengths of the employed microstrip lines in the loop. PS2 with a phase shift of about $70^{\circ}$ is used to tune oscillation frequency. The amplifier is constructed using two stages to compensate for the loss of the open loop. Through the measurement of the open loop gain, the tune voltage of the PS1 can be set to satisfy the oscillation condition and the loop is then closed to form the oscillator. The oscillator with a oscillation frequency of 5.345 GHz shows a phase noise of -130.5 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz frequency offset. The oscillation power and the electrical frequency tuning range is about 3.5 dBm and about 4.2 MHz for a tuning voltage of 0~10 V, respectively.

  • For All Digital QPSK receivers, a phase recovery scheme is required to fix the arbitrarily rotated I/Q quadrature signals due to the transmission path and clock mismatch between the transmitter and the receiver. The conventional Costas phase recovery loop scheme requires a separate AGC(Automatic Gain Control) to obtain the performance independent of input signal power. This paper proposes a simple scheme which separates the phase and amplitude of the input signal via CORDIC algorithm and performs the phase recovery and amplitude compensation simultaneously. The proposed scheme can considerably reduce the logic resources in hardware implementation, has been verified by C++ and Model Sim simulations.

  • 본 논문은 병렬로 운전되는 컨버터의 출력 전류 맥동을 감소시키기 위한 선택적 위상 지연 구동 방법을 제안한다. 병렬로 운전되는 컨버터는 부하의 크기 및 운전하는 컨버터의 개수에 따라 그 효율이 달라지므로, 기동되는 컨버터의 개수를 가변하여 운전하는 것이 효율적이다. 또한 전류의 맥동을 저감하기 위해서 일정한 위상 차이를 가지도록 제어하는 인터리브드 운전 기법이 널리 사용되고 있다. 따라서 병렬 운전되는 컨버터의 출력전류 맥동을 저감시키기 위해, 운전되는 컨버터의 개수에 따라 위상 간격을 조정해야 할 필요성이 있다. 본 논문에서는 구동되는 컨버터의 개수에 따라 위상 간격을 제어하여 출력전류의 맥동을 저감하는 기법을 제안한며, 실험을 통해 제안된 알고리즘을 검증한다.

  • In this paper, we proposed lowpass filter using all-pass sums of flat delay characteristics. this filter consisted of all-pass filter of parallel structure, the general analog filter is impossible to adjust the phase and the delay, using the Proposed filter, it has advantage to adjust them. And, we compared and analyzed this filter with passband width and magnitude characteristics, and the relation of group delay characteristics and cut-off frequency. Also, in order to obtain desired cut-off frequency, forming the weighing, we obtained desired cut-off frequency and group delay characteristics.

A Study on A Dimensional Active Phased Array Antenna (2차원 Quasi-optical 능동배열 안테나에 관한 연구)

  • In this thesis, a two-dimensional active phased array antenna without phase shifter is studied for two-dimensional beam scanning. A designed two-dimensional oscillator-type active array antenna, radiation elements and the oscillator circuits were combined with via-hole and coupled by slot on the opposite ground plane. The operating characteristics are analyzed and experimentally demonstrated , The two-dimensional $4\times4$ elements were designed for the proper coupling strengths and coupling phases by adjusting the width, length and offset position of slot-lines. The fabricated active phased array antenna shows the beam shift characteristics capable of scanning from $-17^{\circ}$ to $18^{\circ}$ with respect to broadside in one dimension, from $-5^{\circ}$ to $10^{\circ}$ in two dimension. The experimental results show that it is possible to use the oscillator-type active phased array antenna as a two-dimensional planar array antenna.
