A Study of Combined Web Archiving Policy : BnF's Three Layers Web Archiving Strategy (복합적 웹 아카이빙 정책에 관한 고찰 - 프랑스국립도서관의 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims at discussing development of web archiving policies in South Korea. The study is based on the understanding of that the institutional environment and efforts for keeping Web information resources are insufficient, compared to the value and importance of them. For the study, Web archiving practices are analyzed into three aspects: scope, method, and quality. Futhermore, they are graphically schematized as a comparative analysis model. Based on the model, the study classifies national Web archiving practices into seven unique types and diagnoses their cons and pros. In this context, a combined Web archiving policy is discussed as an optimal Web archiving approach. As a case study, the France National Library's Web archiving is discussed in depth and the Korean National Library's Web archiving project, OASIS, is critically analyzed. As a result, the study proposes two alternative plans for the development of Web archiving policy in South Korea.

  • 디지털 자원의 장기보존을 위한 기법과 전략은 지속적인 관심 속에서 개발되어 오고 있다. 특히, 웹 자원에 대한 의존도가 증폭될수록 웹 아카이빙에 대한 중요성이 커지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 IIPC에서 제시하는 웹 아카이빙 체인의 네 단계에 해당하는 각 단계별 웹 아카이빙 툴과 그 특성을 살펴보았다. 대상이 되는 웹 아카이빙 도구는 총 9개로서, Heritrix, DeepArc, Web Curator Tool, NetarchiveSuite, BnFArcTools, Wayback, NutchWAX, WERA 그리고 Xinq 등이다.

  • In this study, co-word occurrence analysis was performed on 288 articles rerieved from the Web of Science DB with the topic of web archiving. Results showed that research on image archiving information technology and system were most frequently carried out especially in medical area. Within library and information science and records management & archives areas, web archiving/digital preservation project subject and web archiving tools and methodology subject were studied mostly. It is expected that research related to web archiving software and tools will be increased in near future.

  • As digital preservation becomes increasingly important, interest in web archiving has correspondingly increased. The processes of web archiving depend on the types of acquisition methods employed, the organization and storage of data, their completeness, and their scope. This study develops metadata for intensive web archiving. Several web archiving projects are reviewed and analyzed. As a result, administrative metadata has been suggested in addition to the basic elements from the Dublin Core.

  • The purpose of this study is to review what we have done and to identify what we have to do to be successful with Web archiving which is important to preserve our cultural heritage for the next generation. Some characteristics of Web resources as information sources were identified and some difficulties with Web archiving were discussed. The outcome of national and/or international Web archiving projects including Kurturarw3, PANDORA and Internet Archive were reviewed. Policy issues and technological problems of Web archiving we have to solve were listed.

  • In this study, national web archiving cases were reviewed and interface types and characteristics were examined. Five interface categories and fourteen evaluation criteria were selected. As for the OASIS, Korean national web archiving project, functions of retrieval interface and user support interface were insufficient and need to be reinforced. Other recommended improvement plans were; diversifications of the subject area of web contents, sharing the web acquisition, make up the special collection, visualization of archiving time and trends, systematic performance of the archiving strategy, and active collaboration with international organization.

  • 오늘날 디지털 정보가 기하급수적으로 늘어나고 반면 급속한 폐기와 망실이 일어나고 있다. 특히 웹 자원은 아직 수집, 보존, 활용에 대한 방안이 없어서 일정 기간의 서비스가 끝나면 사라져 버리는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 웹 자원을 수집하고 보존하기위한 웹 아카이빙 시스템이 요구되고 있다. 이러한 웹 자원들을 주기적으로 수집하여 웹 자원을 항구적인 보존과 접근을 위한 웹 아카이빙 개발이 필요하게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 웹 자원의 아카이빙 수집, 보존, 항구적인 접근을 위한 웹 아카이빙 시스템을 개발하였다.

  • There are no way of collection, preservation and utilization for web resources after the service is terminated and is gone. However, these Web resources, regardless of the importance of periodically or aperiodically updated or have been destroyed. Therefore, to collect and preserve Web resources Web archive is being emphasized. Web resources collected periodically in order to develop Web archiving crawlers only was required. In this study, from the collection of Web resources to be used for archiving existing web crawlers to analyze the strengths and weaknesses. We have developed web archiving systems for the best collection of web resources.

  • This study is to develope the structures and the elements of the metadata for harvesting, management and preservation of a valuable web resources in the web archiving. For this study, we investigated the available metadata in the web archiving and surveyed the requirements of web archiving process. And we analyzed the characteristics of web resources. Also, this study was used a based on the ISO 14721 OAIS Reference Model. Finally, to share the metadata elements among the web archiving system, this study considered the interoperability for the exchange of the metadata. Based on the result, this study designed four structures of the metadata and defined the 28 core metadata elements for the web archiving.
