  • Purpose: We are trying to analyze 130 patients' conditions by using our Helical Tomotherapy, which was installed in our center in Oct. 2007. We will be statistically approach this examination and analyze so that we will be able to figure out adaptive plans according to the change in place of the tumor, GTV (gross tumor volume), total amount of time it took, vector (${\upsilon}=\surd$x2+y2+z2) and the change in size of the tumor. Materials and Methods: Objectives were the patients who were medicated with Tomotherapy in our medical center since Oct. 2007 August 2008. The Average age of the patients were 53 years old (Minimum 25 years old, Maximum 83 years old). The parts of the body we operated were could be categorized as Head&neck (n=22), Chest (n=47), Abdomen (n=25), Pelvis (n=11), Bone (n=25). MVCT had acted on 2702 times, and also had acted on our adaptive plan toward patients who showed big difference in the size of tumor. Also, after equalizing our gained MVCT and kv-CT we checked up on the range of possible mistake, using x, y, z, roll and vector. We've also investigated on Set-up, MVCT, average time of operation and target volume. Results: Mean time on table was 22.8 minutes. Mean treatment time was 13.26 minutes. Mean correction (mm) was X=-0.7, Y=-1.4, Z=5.77, roll=0.29, vector=8.66 Head&neck patients had 2.96 mm less vector value in movement than patients of Chest, Abdomen, Bone. In increasing order, Head&neck, Bone, Abdomen, Chest, Pelvis showed the vector value in movement. Also, there were 27 patients for adaptive plan, 39 patients, who had long or multiple tumor. We could know that When medical treatment is one cure plan, it takes 32 minutes, and when medical treatment is two cure plan, it takes 40 minutes that one medical treatment takes 21 minutes, and the other medical treatment takes 19 minutes. Conclusion:With our basic tools, we could bring more accurate IMRT with MVCT. Also, through our daily image, we checked up on the change in tumor so that adaptive plan could work. It was made it possible to take the cure of long or multiple tumor, the cure in a nearby OAR, and the complicated cure that should make changes of gradient dose distribution.

  • The purpose of this study is to improve the accuracy of the urban runoff and drainage network analysis by using the observed water level in the drainage network. To do this, sensitivity analysis for major parameters of SWMM (Storm Water Management Model) was performed and parameters were calibrated. The sensitivity of the parameters was the order of the roughness of the conduit, the roughness of the impervious area, the width of the watershed, and the roughness of the pervious area. Six types of scenarios were set up according to the number and types of parameter considering four parameters with high sensitivity. These scenarios were applied to the Seocho-3/4/5, Yeoksam, and Nonhyun drainage basins, where the serious flood damage occurred due to the heavy rain on 21 July, 2013. Parameter optimization analysis based on PEST (Parameter ESTimation) model for each scenario was performed by comparing observed water level in the conduits. By analyzing the accuracy of each scenario, more improved simulation results could be obtained, that is, the maximum RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) could be reduced by 2.41cm and the maximum peak error by 13.7%. The results of this study will be helpful to analyze volume of the manhole surcharge and forecast the inundation area more accurately.

  • In order to provide quantitative control of the standard products of Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI), on-board radiometric correction, atmospheric correction, and bio-optical algorithm are obtained continuously by comprehensive and consistent calibration and validation procedures. The calibration/validation for radiometric, atmospheric, and bio-optical data of GOCI uses temperature, salinity, ocean optics, fluorescence, and turbidity data sets from buoy and platform systems, and periodic oceanic environmental data. For calibration and validation of GOCI, we compared radiometric data between in-situ measurement and HyperSAS data installed in the Ieodo ocean research station, and between HyperSAS and SeaWiFS radiance. HyperSAS data were slightly different in in-situ radiance and irradiance, but they did not have spectral shift in absorption bands. Although all radiance bands measured between HyperSAS and SeaWiFS had an average 25% error, the 11% absolute error was relatively lower when atmospheric correction bands were omitted. This error is related to the SeaWiFS standard atmospheric correction process. We have to consider and improve this error rate for calibration and validation of GOCI. A reference target site around Dokdo Island was used for studying calibration and validation of GOCI. In-situ ocean- and bio-optical data were collected during August and October, 2009. Reflectance spectra around Dokdo Island showed optical characteristic of Case-1 Water. Absorption spectra of chlorophyll, suspended matter, and dissolved organic matter also showed their spectral characteristics. MODIS Aqua-derived chlorophyll-a concentration was well correlated with in-situ fluorometer value, which installed in Dokdo buoy. As we strive to solv the problems of radiometric, atmospheric, and bio-optical correction, it is important to be able to progress and improve the future quality of calibration and validation of GOCI.

  • This paper is to test the applicability of ModKIMSTORM (Modified KIneMatic Wave STOrm Runoff Model) by applying it to Namgangdam watershed of $2,293km^2$. Model inputs (DEM, land use, soil related information) were prepared in 500 m spatial resolution. Using five typhoon events (Saomi in 2000, Rusa in 2002, Maemi in 2003, Megi in 2004 and Ewiniar in 2006) and two storm events (May of 2003 and July of 2004), the model was calibrated and verified by comparing the simulated streamflow with the observed one at the outlet of the watershed. The Pearson's coefficient of determination $R^2$, Nash and Sutcliffe model efficiency E, the deviation of runoff volumes $D_v$, relative error of the peak runoff rate $EQ_p$, and absolute error of the time to peak runoff $ET_p$ showed the average value of 0.984, 0.981, 3.63%, 0.003, and 0.48 hr for 4 storms calibration and 0.937, 0.895, 8.08%, 0.138, and 0.73 hr for 3 storms verification respectively. Among the model parameters, the stream Manning's roughness coefficient was the most sensitive for peak runoff and the initial soil moisture content was highly sensitive for runoff volume fitting. We could look into the behavior of hyrologic components from the spatial results during the storm periods and get some clue for the watershed management by storms.

  • This study is conducted to find out potential evapotranspiration values computed by a reasonable formula which is well suited among the existing ones for Suweon area. Each formula based on the data from Suweon Agricultural Meteorological Station during 1964 to 1973. Five formulas which are Blanney-Criddle, Thornthwaite, Penman, Jensen-Haise and Truc have been applied for calculation of potential evapotanspiration. Results obtained are summarized as follows. 1. Potential evapotranspiration of Suweon area shows uni-modal distribution which maximum value occurs in summer and minimum value occurs in winter. Annual potential evapotranspiration computed by Blanney-Criddle formula is 1,377 mm and that computed by others ranges from 714mm to 896mm. 2. Potential evapotranspiration computed by Blanney-Criddle formula is higher value than that computed by others, and among the other formulas it's values show little differences. However, relationships between the former and the mean of four others is highly correlated. 3. In comparison with potential evapotranspiration computed by formulas and actual evapotranspiration for rice paddy which is already reported, value for crop coefficient may be 0.8 in local varities, 1.0 in Tongil varity on Blanney-Criddle formula, and 1.2 in local varities and 1.5 in Tongil varity on the mean of four other fomulas. 4. Five formulas may applied for calculation of potential evapotranspiration because of relatively good correlation among them. However Blanney-Criddle formula is one of recommendable ones, because it is easy to compute and requires less data in compare with other formulas.

  • Water balance is the major factor in forest ecosystem, and is closely related to the vegetation and topographic characteristics within a watershed. The hydrologic response of a forest watershed was investigated with the hydrological model. The deterministic, lumped parameter model (BROOK90) was selected and used to evaluate the applicability of the model for simulating daily runoff on the steep, forested watershed. The model was calibrated and validated against the streamflow data measured at the Bukmoongol watershed. The deviation in runoff volume $(D_v)$ was -1.7% for the calibration period, and the $D_v$ value for the validation period was 4.6%. The correlation coefficient (r) and model efficiency (E) on monthly basis were 0.922,0.847, respectively, for the calibration period, while the r- and E-value for the validation period were 0.941, 0.871, respectively. Overall, the simulated streamflows were close to the observations with respect to total runoff volume, seasonal runoff volume, and baseflow index for the simulation period. BROOK90 model was able to reproduce the trend of runoff with higher correlation during the simulation period.

  • TRMM TMI data were used to investigate a relationship between physical parameters from microwave sensor and typhoon intensities from June to September, 2004. Several data such as 85GHz brightness temperature (TB), polarization corrected temperature (PCT), precipitable water, ice content, rain rate, and latent heat release retrieved from the TMI observation were correlated to the maximum wind speeds in the best-track database by RSMC-Tokyo. Correlation coefficient between TB and typhoon intensity was -0.2 - -0.4 with a maximum value in the 2.5 degree radius circle from the center of tropical cyclone. The value of correlation between in precipitable water, rain, latent heat, and typhoon intensity is in the range of 0.2-0.4. Correlation analysis with respect to storm intensity showed that maximum correlation is observed at 1.0-1.5 degree radius circle from the center of tropical cyclone in the initial stage of tropical cyclone, while maximum correlation is shown in 0.5 degree radius in typhoon stage. Correlation coefficient was used to produce regressed intensities and adopted for typhoon Rusa (2002) and Maemi (2003). Multiple regression with 85GHz TB and precipitable water was found to provide an improved typhoon intensity when taking into account the storm size. The results indicate that it may be possible to use TB and precipitable water from satellite observation as a predictor to estimate the intensity of a tropical cyclone.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the influence of aquaplastic mask which is used for the radiotherapy for patients with head and neck cancer on patient positioning by analyzing the results of 2D/2D matching with the use of Exactrac 6D couch system. Materials and Methods: 2D/2D matching-based Image guidance was performed with the use of Exactrac 6D couch system on a total of 14 patients with head and neck cancer who received radiotherapy at this hospital in a period from June 2010 to June 2011. The adjusted 6D values obtained after the image guidance were classified into values related with patients and values not related with patients as to the correlation between the results. Results: In the analysis of the relation of each adjusted value to patients, the coefficient of determination ($R^2$) of longitudinal and pitch direction was 0.76, of longitudinal and yaw direction was 0.48, and of pitch and yaw direction was 0.42 although the coefficient of determination for above factors was 0.03 or less when the dependency of patients was excluded. Conclusion: It was demonstrated that intrinsic factors of aquaplastic mask had influence on the immobilization of patients by aquaplastic mask although various factors related with patients had influence on the immobilization of patients. It is believed that if these factors are adjusted, the treatment of patients with head and neck cancer can be more accurate.

  • We have analyzed surface water temperature and seasonal stratification of lakes in the Han river system using time-series Landsat images and in situ measurement data. Using NASA equation, at-satellite temperature is derived from 29 Landsat-5 TM and Landsat-7 ETM+ images obtained from 1994 to 2004, and was compared with in situ surface temperature on river-type dam lakes such as Paro, Chuncheon, Euiam, Chongpyong, Paldang, and with 10m-depth temperature on lake-type dam lake Soyang. Although the in situ temperature at the time of satellite data acquisition was interpolated from monthly measurements, the number of images with standard deviation of temperature difference (at-satellite temperature - in situ interpolated temperature) less than $2^{\circ}C$ was 24 on which a novel statistical atmospheric correction could be applied. The correlation coefficient at Lake Soyang was 0.915 (0.950 after correction) and 0.951-0.980 (0.979-0.997 after correction) at other lakes. This high correlation implies that there exist a mixed layer in the shallow river-like dam lakes due to physical mixing from continuous influx and efflux, and the daily and hourly temperature change is not fluctuating. At Lake Soyang, an anomalous temperature difference was observed from April to July where at-satellite temperature is $3-5^{\circ}C$ higher than in situ interpolated temperature. Located in the uppermost part of the Han river system and its influx is governed only by natural precipitation, Lake Soyang develops stratification during this time with rising sun elevation and no physical mixture from influx in this relatively dry season of the year.
