해수와 청수환경에서 선박용 원심펌프 임펠러 재료의 캐비테이션 특성 (Cavitation Characteristics on Impeller Materials of Centrifugal Pump for Ship in Sea Water and Fresh Water)

  • The fresh water and sea water in present ships is used as cooling water for marine engine. Therefore, corrosion damage in seawater system is frequently occurred. In particular, in the impeller of pump, the performance and material span due to the corrosion and cavitation erosion has adverse effects. Most of the pump impellers in vessels are used Cu-Al alloy. Cu-Al alloy which having the excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance is widely used in marine environments. However, despite the excellent characteristics, the periodic replacement parts due to the cavitation damage in seawater is vulnerable to economic viewpoint. In this study, Cu-Al alloy used with impeller for centrifugal pump were conducted various experiments to evaluate its characteristics in seawater and fresh water solutions. As an electrochemical result, the dynamic conditions that exposed to the cavitation environment presented high corrosion current density with collapse of the cavity compared with the static conditions. Cavitation test results, the weightloss and weightloss rate in fresh water are observed more than those of seawater.

원심 임펠러의 설계기술 개발 (Development of a Design Technique for Centrifugal Impellers)

  • An aerodynamic design technique of a centrifugal impeller is developed. The design procedure consists of a preliminary design, a three-dimensional blade surface generation, a flow analysis of impeller passage and a compatibility analysis for the designed impeller. To get a higher efficiency, the backswept impeller which has a lean angle and a parabolic blade surface is designed. In the present analysis of flow in an impeller, an inviscid quasi-three-dimensional method and a viscous three-dimensional method are used. Compatibility of the designed impeller is decided with the results of the analyses. The quasi-three-dimensional method is easy to use, but limited to a few conditions in real application for the prediction of the actual flow in the impeller. Since the viscous three-dimensional method proved to predict the real flow in the impeller relatively well, it can be used as a means for the decision of compatibility of the designed impeller.

  • A small-sized turbocharger is generally used in downsizing engine for various vehicles. When a centrifugal compressor, which is one of the crucial units of the turbocharger, is downsized, the compressor has much more possibilities of being damaged because of its high rotating speed, causing insecure structural soundness. Thus, it is of essential to study on the improvement of the structural soundness of a small-sized turbocharger. In this study, numerical analysis on the various blade geometries and mass flow rate of the compressor was performed using the commercial software ANSYS CFX. In addition, the evaluation on the structural soundness of a compressor impeller for respective cases was conducted using ANSYS Mechanical. As a result, it was shown that the compressor had higher efficiency with increasingly secured structural soundness.

  • Centrifugal fans are widely used and the noise generated by these machines causes one of the most serious problems. In general, the centrifugal fan noise is often dominated by tones at BPF(blade passage frequency) and its higher harmonics. This is a consequence of the strong interaction between the flow discharged from the impeller and the cutoff in the casing. However, only a few research have been carried out on predicting the noise because of the difficulty in obtaining detailed information about the flow field and casing effects on noise radiation. The objective of this study is to understand the generation mechanism of sound and to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a centrifugal fan. We assume that the impeller rotates with a constant angular velocity and the flow field of the impeller is incompressible and inviscid. So, a discrete vortex method(DVM) is used to model the centrifugal fan and to calculate the flow field. The force of each element on the blade is calculated by the unsteady Bernoulli equation. Lowsons method is used to predict the acoustic source. In order to compare the experimental data, a centrifugal impeller and wedge introduced by Weidemann are used in the numerical calculation and the results are compared with the experimental data. Reasonable results are obtained not only for the peak frequencies but also for the amplitudes of the tonal.

펌프 캐비테이션 침식 예측진단 (Prognostic Technique for Pump Cavitation Erosion)

  • 원심펌프의 캐비테이션 침식에 대한 예측진단 기법을 본 연구에서 제시했다. 펌프의 침식 상태를 추정하기 위해 캐비테이션 소음을 측정하여 손상률을 계산하고 누적 손상은 특정 운전 상태에 따라 추정한 손상과 Miner의 법칙을 이용하여 계산했다. 펌프 임펠러의 잔존 유효 수명은 미래의 운전 조건을 가정한 누적 손상 예측치에 따라 계산하고 예측 불확도는 몬테카를로 모의를 통해 얻었다. 예측 및 시험 결과를 비교해 본 결과 개발된 방법이 캐비테이션 침식 상태와 잔존 유효 수명을 예측하는 데 적용될 수 있음을 확인할 수 있다.

  • 최근, LNG는 저렴한 가격과 친환경적 연료 등의 이유로 선박용 대체연료로 각광을 받고 있으며, 그 수요량도 급성장이 예상된다. 그러나, 선박의 LNG 연료공급을 위한 극저온펌프(Cryogenic Pump) 제작과 관련한 국내 기술력은 매우 미흡한 실정으로 핵심 부품의 설계와 제작 기술이 절실한 시점이다. 따라서, 본 연구는 선박용 LNG 공급 시스템용 극저온 잠액식 원심펌프(Cryogenic Submerged Centrifugal Pump)의 단계별 개발절차에 대하여 기술하였다. 그리하여, 각 단계별 특성 및 주요 개발항목을 공학적이고 관리적인 측면에서 접근함으로써 실질적이고 구체적인 개발방법을 제시하는데 연구 목적을 두었다.

  • Recently, with theraped advancement in th oceanology such an ocean-going vessel and oceanic structures, there is a need to study the cavitation erosion-corrosion control of pump impeller, the partial element of ocean machinery, for more effective operation. Especially, the cathodic protection (impressed current method & Al-sacrificial anode method) was applied to sea water, and Cu-alloy material mixed Zn & Al was used as a control method of cavitation erosion-corrosion. In this study, used the piezoelectric vibrator with 20KHz, 24.mu.m to cavity generation apparatus, and investigated the weight loss, weight loss rate, electrode potential & current density etc. under this condition. According to test result, thos describes how to indentify an influence of the cathodic protection and Al & Zn addition in material development for the control of cavitation erosion-corrosion, and those will serve as fundamental data on the cavitation erosion-corrosion control of oceanic centrifugal pump.

In this paper, Cu-metal was tested by using of erosion apparatus with water-jet type and was investigated under the behaviour of impingement erosion-corrosion according to various environmental conditions, and the properties of Cu-metal were evaluated through the measurement by weight loss, weight loss rate, protective efficiency. The results were compared with those obtained using Cu-metal applied to cathodic protection and Cu-alloys added to Zn or Al-metal. As a basis of those results, the best protective efficiencies could be taken as using cathodic protection method and Cu-alloy with Al & Zn material addings, and will be suggested as the fundamental data of the anti-impingement erosion-corrosion on Cu-metal of impeller material for oceanic centrifugal pump.

원심 압축기의 성능 예측 (Performance Prediction of Centrifugal Compressors)

  • The present study has been carried out to develop a computational procedure for the analysis of the off-design performance in centrifugal compressors with vaneless diffusers by integrating empirical loss models and analytical equations. Losses in centrifugal compressors stem from a number of sources and their exact calculation is not yet possible. This study investigates several modeling schemes and shows that a fairly good prediction can be achieved by a proper selection of the most important flow parameters resulting form a meanline one-dimensional analysis. The performance maps for compressors are calculated and compared with measured performance maps. The off-design performance characteristics in terms of the pressure ratio vs. mass flow produced have generally correct forms. However, no universal means have been found to predict accurately the onset of surge. The prediction method developed through this study can serve as a tool to ensure good matching between parts and it can assist the understanding of the operational characteristics of general purpose centrifugal compressors.
