Separation and Purification for the Determination of Zirconium and Its Isotopes in PWR Spent Nuclear Fuels (PWR 사용후핵연료 중 Zr 및 Zr 동위원소 정량을 위한 분리 및 정제)

  • A method has been studied to separate Zr from various fission products in PWR spent nuclear fuels. A solution containing metal ions in place of radioactive fission products was prepared. The Zr was separated with 5 M HCl followed by eluting metal ions such as Ce, Nd, Cs, Rb, Ba, Sr, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ag and Cd with 12 M HCl on Dowex $1{\times}8$, anion exchange resin. The recovery of Zr was more than 95%. The purification of Zr was carried out on anion exchange resin, Dowex $1{\times}8$, in 5 M HCl in order to remove Mo causing isobaric effect during mass spectrometry. The method was applied to separate Zr from a spent PWR fuel. From mass spectrometric measurement, the purified Zr portion was not showed the isobars from other elements such as Mo and Sr.

  • In this study, we have surveyed the new technologies in the cryogenic distillation of ITER, equilibrium reactors and helium refrigeration cycle contained in the isotope separation system (ISS). We also have collected thermodynamic and transport properties for $H_2$, HD, $D_2$, HT, DT and $T_2$ components of which properties are not built in a general purpose chemical process simulators such as Aspen Plus and PRO/II with PROVISION. Verification works have been performed to compare between literature data and simulation results. For the simulation of ISS involving six hydrogen isotope components, four distillation columns and two equilibrium reactors are used for the separation of $D_2$ and DT from $T_2$.

국내 A 쓰레기 매립지의 침출수와 생성가스와 지구화학적 특성

  • 국내 A군에서 운영중인 한 쓰레기 매립지에서 배출되는 침출수와 주변 지하수를 채취하여 화학분석과 동위원소 분석을 실시하였다. 그리고 생활 쓰레기가 분해되는 과정에서 생성되는 가스들을 채집하여 동위원소 분석을 실시하였다. 유기물 분해로 생성된 이산화탄소는 일차적으로 침출수의 알칼리도를 높이고 이차적으로 일어나는 이산화탄소의 환원작용에 의하여 메탄가스가 형성되었다. 이러한 과정에서 침출수내의 용존무기탄소(DIC)의 탄소 동위원소 조성이 부화되었으며, 아울러 생성된 메탄과의 수소 동위원소 교환반응에 의하여 침출수의 수소 동위원소 조성이 크게 부화되는 특징이 관찰 되었다. 쓰레기장에서 발생되는 혼합가스에서 이산화탄소를 분리하여 탄소 동위원소 조성을 분석해 본 결과 새로운 매립지 보다 오래된 매립지에서 배출되는 이산화탄소의 탄소 동위원소 조성이 부화되는 특징이 관찰되었다.

  • 1-eicosylsulfate($C_{20}H_{41}SO_4^-$) was coated onto 5 ${\mu}m$ C18 reversed phase column. Adsorption equilibrium was reached when 1.2l of $1.46{\times}10^{-4}M$ in 25% acetonitrile solution passed through the column. This coated column proved to be stable up to 10l of 0.05 M ${\alpha}$-HiBA eluent used. The column efficiencies of Eu, Nd, Ce and La measured were about 0.04 mm of HETP using 0.15M ${\alpha}$-HiBA eluent at a flow rate of 1.0ml/min. This column was used to separate some lanthanides and transition metal ions, andmshowed an excellent resolution, respectively.

  • Isotope-dilution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry was used to determine trace amounts of Cd, Cu, Pb, Ni and Zn in sediment. Sediment samples were dissolved by microwave digestion with addition of mixed acid ($HNO_3$, HF and $HClO_4$). Lead was determined after separation of alkaline and alkaline earth metals by an ammonium pyrrolidenedithiocarbarmate (APDC) solvent extraction. The other elements were determined after separation of iron, tin and titanium by hydroxide precipitation. Recovery efficiency of the analyte elements was not satisfactory, but most of matrix elements causing the isobaric interference could be effectively eliminated by the separation. Good agreement was achieved with the certified values in the analysis of the two sediment reference materials.

스피츠버겐 페리도타이트에 대한 Lu-Hf 및 Re-Os 동위원소 시스템의 활용: 맨틀-지각간의 성인적 연계성에 대한 고찰

  • 스발바드 서측에 위치하는 스피츠버겐 하부의 암석권맨틀의 분화시기를 규명하기 위하여, 두 개의 독립적인 방사성동위원소 시스템인 Lu-Hf과 Re-Os 시스템을 스피넬 페리도타이트(spinel peridotite)에 활용하였다. 전암에 대한 Re-Os 계통(Re-Os 에러크론, 알루미노크론, Re-결핍연대 등)은 연구지역의 페리도타이트가 대류하는 맨틀로부터 고기원생대/후기시생대에 분리되었음을 지시한다. 흥미롭게도 이런 연대는 페리도타이트내 단사휘석 결정들에 대하여 얻어진 Lu-Hf 에러크론 연대와 일치한다. 또한 시료 내에 지구화학적으로 기록된 현무암질 액의 결핍정도 역시 계통적으로 위의 연대를 지지한다. 위 연대는 스피츠버겐 서측부에 보고된 가장 오래된 지각의 연대와 일치한다. 따라서 연구지역의 암석권맨틀이 연약권으로부터 분리된 것은 접촉하고 있는 지각과 동시기적으로 이루어진 사건임을 알 수 있다. 연구지역은 팔레오세 이래로 복잡한 지구조적 응력장 변화(압축에서 신장환경으로의 변화)를 겪었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 지각과 커플링된 암석권맨틀이 현존한다는 것은 연구지역내 응력장변화가 대규모의 암석권 디라미네이션(delamination)을 유발하지는 않았다는 것을 의미한다. 그러므로 북극권의 화산활동을 설명하기 위하여 북극권 상부맨틀에 존재한다고 알려진 듀팔(DUPAL) 같은 부화된 물질의 성인으로 일부의 연구자들이 주장하여 온 디라미네이션된 암석권맨틀의 존재는 설득력이 없다고 판단된다.

  • 가압 중수로형 원자력발전소에서는 중수 중의 중수소와 중성자의 반응에 의하여 수소동위원소인 삼중수소(트리튬)가 불가피하게 생성되는데 발전소의 가동 년수가 증가함에 따라 계통내 중수중의 삼중수소 농도도 증가하게 된다. 따라서 계통내 삼중수소화 중수로부터 삼중수소를 분리하여, 중수는 원자로로 순환하고 분리된 삼중수소는 별도로 저장할 필요가 있다. 이 과정에서 분리$\cdot$농축된 삼중수소는 방사성 물질일 뿐만 아니라 앞으로 핵융합 연구에 매우 중요하게 이용되어야 할 자원이기 때문에 이를 안전하게 저장하기 위한 기술(저장기술)과 경우에 따라 지정된 장소로 운반하기 위한 기술(운반기술)이 필요하다.(중략)

Separation of Rare Earth Elements in Monazite Sand by Anion Exchange Resin (음이온교환수지에 의한 모나자이트중 희토류원소의 분리)

  • An anion exchange method for separating the individual rare earth elements in monazite into enriched fractions has been developed. The complexed rare earth ions with EDTA at pH 8.4 pass through the anion resin bed. The absorption order of the complexed ions was in accord with that of the stability constants of the complexes. The elution of a mixture of all the rare earths through an ion-exchange bed with an ammonia-buffered solution of EDTA indicated that this chelating agent is as effective for separating the light rare earths. The separation results of each ion obtained from their elution fractions are 55% to 98%.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the co- and mutual separation for Am, Cm and RE elements from the simulated multi-component solution equivalent to real HLW level by a Zr-DEHPA(di-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphoric acid containing Zirconium)/$NDD(n-dodecane)-HNO_3$ extraction system. Zr-DEHPA was self-synthesized and the optimal condition of (15g/L Zr-1M DEHPA)/NDD-1M $HNO_3$ was selected taking into consideration of prevention of the third phase, and effects of concentration of DEHPA, nitric acid and impregnant amount of Zr on the co-extraction of Am, Cm and RE. In that condition, the extraction yields were 81% (Am), 85% (Cm), more than 80% (RE elements), 98% (Mo), 85% (Fe), 98% (U), 73% (Np), and less than 5% (other elements) so that the system developed for the co-extraction of Am-Cm/RE was proved to be available. For that, however, U, Np, Mo and Fe was elucidated to have to be removed in advance, and Zr inducing the third phase formation was found to be practically excluded. The co-extracted Am-Cm/RE were sequentially separated in an order of Am-Cm (stripping agent : 0.05 M DTPA-1M Lactic acid of pH 3.6)${\rightarrow}RE$ (stripping agent : 5M $HNO_3$), and then their separation factors were evaluated. At above conditions, Am of 65.4%, Cm of 63.9%, RE (except for Y) of more than 85% were stripped.

  • Chloride form anion exchange resin was used to separate one of the elements from the rare earth mixture using respectable Ln-EDTA eluent. $Sm^{3+}$, $La^{3+}$ or $Ce^{4+}$ complexed with EDTA was passed through the resin column and eluted with a Sm-EDTA solution as an eluent. Here all the rare earth element ions except $Sm^{3+}$ were passed. Adsorbed $Sm^{3+}$ in resin was eluted with 1.0 M HCl solution. If La-EDTA solution as an eluent was used to separate lanthanum ions, lanthanum ions were eluted together with other rare earth elements. When Ce-EDTA solution was also used for separation of $Ce^{4+}$, it was eluted in the region of other rare earth elements. In the case of Sm-EDTA elution, the elution mechanism was as follows : Absorption : $RCl+Ln-Y^-{\leftrightarrows}RLnY+Cl^-$, Sm-EDTA elution : $RLnY+Sm-Y^-{\leftrightarrows}RSmY+Ln-Y^-$, HCl elution : $RSmY+HCl{\leftrightarrows}RCl+Sm-Y^-$.
